The group chatted and laughed as they arrived at a testing ground within the research and development center. Inside, a team of researchers was already waiting.

Wick happily picked up an oval metal sphere and presented it to Chenxi and Shadow.

"Look, this is the Small Thrown Flame Burst Bomb I’m demonstrating today!"

Chenxi and Shadow examined it from every angle, but it just looked like an ordinary metal sphere. When they sensed the energy within, they only detected a faint Fire Energy reaction, roughly equivalent to the energy needed for an ignition or illumination spell.

"It doesn’t look very impressive," Shadow said, taking the metal sphere. He weighed it in his hand before casually tossing it back to Wick.

"Lord Shadow, you mustn’t underestimate this device. Let me give you a demonstration, and you’ll see what I mean."

Wick took the metal sphere to the edge of the testing ground. He pressed a few spots on its surface, then hurled it with all his might.

The metal sphere landed far in the distance. A moment later, a massive explosion erupted. A fireball soared into the sky, and a wave of hot air washed over them from the blast.

"Not bad," Chenxi remarked, brushing a strand of hair from her face that had been lifted by the hot wind. "To trigger a Blast Flame Technique with the energy of a single illumination spell... The power is a bit lacking, but it’s still quite impressive. How did you manage it?"

Shadow, on the other hand, excitedly grabbed another metal sphere from one of the researchers. After asking how to activate it, he leaped into the testing ground, disabled the safety, and pressed the switch, letting the Small Thrown Flame Burst Bomb detonate in his hand to personally feel its explosive power before giving his assessment.

"Aha! Not bad at all! The power is around one thousand points. If ten or so of these went off at once and I wasn’t prepared, they might even injure me—break the skin, at least. Looks like we can equip our low-tier troops with these."

"These would be perfect for the Shadow Reapers to use for sabotage behind enemy lines."

"The Heroic Gladiators could also make good use of these. Their martial skills are exceptional, but they lack ranged combat capabilities. A few Small Thrown Flame Burst Bombs would help compensate for that weakness."

Shadow and Chenxi clearly had different priorities. Chenxi was more interested in the principles behind how the Small Thrown Flame Burst Bomb worked, while Shadow was focused on its military applications.

"Instead, we found that we get a much better lethal effect by leveraging the characteristics of different elements, guiding the energy to play to its inherent strengths. This Small Thrown Flame Burst Bomb is the result of our initial trials."

"The outer casing uses the newly discovered Cracked Demon Copper. It’s excellent at containing all sorts of energies, preventing them from dissipating. It also has a certain rigidity and toughness to protect the internal components. Furthermore, after a special activation, its structure changes, allowing it to burst open with ease."

"Inside, it uses Flame Stone Powder and a small Fire Elemental Crystal."
