Chapter 991 - 302: Turbidity (Part 3)
Just moments ago, they were once again attacked by an Extraordinary Zombie, resulting in the death of two more people in the assault.
The creatures in this area are extremely dangerous, and the zombie just now was Tier Eight. Despite the many Extrordinary in their team, they inevitably suffered losses in the face of such attacks.
The long journey took a heavy toll on both physical strength and spirit; everyone in the team was in poor status.
A scream echoed through the air.
Yi Xiaodong turned around to see a person suddenly attack another, with dark lines spreading across their face and leg muscles swelling visibly, clearly out of control.
Since the psychologist at the gathering point had already perished, the team was unable to control situations where Extraordinary went out of control.
The out-of-control Extraordinary was quickly dealt with, collapsing onto the ground. Even after death, their flesh continued to mutate.
This kind of event had already occurred multiple times. They were indeed contaminated, which increased the likelihood of losing control.
Worry was etched on everyone’s faces as they watched others lose control, naturally thinking of what they might look like when they themselves lost control. Many who were on the brink of losing control showed no symptoms outwardly, suppressing it, suppressing it, until it burst forth.
At night, they gathered in a building to spend the night; given the relatively large number of Extraordinary, there hadn’t been a shortage of food yet.
The exploration team returned to report: "Based on previous clues provided, we found a giant beehive on top of the central building. We need to avoid it to prevent alarming those monsters."
Yi Xiaodong nodded: "There should still be some distance. Tomorrow, we’ll detour along the eastern avenue; there should be no problems. After that, we’ll exit the city."
The situation seemed relatively optimistic, and Xu Jie was in good spirits: "In five or six days, we should reach our destination."
Yi Xiaodong nodded: "Almost."
Everything seemed to be moving in a good direction.
Just after midnight, Yi Xiaodong led a team out in search of the nearby Mysterious Shop to scavenge for resources.
As he walked onto the street, he glanced back, lowered his head, silently lit a cigarette, put it in his mouth, and took a deep drag.
A nearby team member asked in confusion, "Leader, weren’t you someone who didn’t smoke?"
Yi Xiaodong coughed twice, nodded and said, "You know, it’s true I don’t. Just suddenly felt like tasting it."
Then, he tossed the cigarette to the ground and extinguished it underfoot, casually throwing an empty can onto the ground, exhaling blue-gray smoke as if he were sighing.
At this moment.
It was precisely midnight, the time the Mysterious Shop refreshed. Familiar lights appeared on the distant street.
Every time he saw it, he felt surprised, for although it was light, it failed to illuminate the darkness.
Zombies crowded the street, moving in upon seeing them. Despite their decent capability, walking the street at night required caution, as too many monsters lurked in the darkness, ready to devour them whole unexpectedly.
"Captain, look at that thing!"
Nearby, a team member shouted, pointing at the sky behind them.
Huge, dark figures emerged in the sky—swarms of black bees appearing in groups, flying towards the building they inhabited, accompanied by a buzzing cacophony.
Yi Xiaodong observed for a moment before reacting: "They’ve been attacked, we have to hurry back. Those are bees from the hive. Though each is weak, they’re numerous."
They knew a hive existed here, yet it was the only way out. Other routes posed even greater danger, and they’d contemplated how to bypass the hive without attracting attention, but still ran into trouble.
Yi Xiaodong and his team had been out for a while and couldn’t make it back quickly.
It wasn’t until deep into the night that Yi Xiaodong returned alone, covered in blood, seemingly having encountered an attack.
The building they had once occupied had become ruins, bodies scattered everywhere, not just humans but also the massive bees. A brutally fierce battle had occurred here.
Yi Xiaodong gazed at the scene, unexpectedly calm, walking toward the ruins with a blood-stained long knife in hand. Though the blood had dried, it was still discernibly human as he shouted, "Is there anyone?!"
No response came, silence surrounded him, save for distant growls echoing. The bees seemed quick to come and go.
Among the ruins, the streets were littered with numerous corpses—one glance revealed at least a hundred bodies.
The beehive’s bees were exceptionally savage; nearby was once a large gathering place with tens of thousands of individuals. The hive visited, leaving nearly eighty percent dead in that catastrophe. No subsequent gathering places were established in the vicinity.
The area had entirely become the territory of bees.
Just as Yi Xiaodong believed everyone had perished, he spotted a figure sitting amid the ruins, glinting eyes fixed on him.
It was Xu Jie, her face displaying puzzlement and questioning, "Why? Why did you do this?"
She surmised this was Yi Xiaodong’s doing, drawing the bees here. It couldn’t be mere coincidence; otherwise, he wouldn’t have returned alone.
Yi Xiaodong gazed at her calmly, looking up at the sky shrouded in cloud, revealing faint stars wedged through gaps, sighing deeply, "Don’t you know why?"
