"Sir Herr! Hurry!"
Herr’s pupils shrank. Seeing the protective barrier right before him, he gathered all his remaining strength and shattered his nearly broken holy barrier completely.
"Break!"
"Boom!!"
A sudden burst of Holy Light illuminated the five-meter area around him. Two Underworld Hunters, hidden in the shadows, were forced to reveal themselves and were immediately targeted by the oracles within the protective barrier, who focused their firepower to drive them back.
Herr, however, lost the protection of his barrier and was exposed to the high concentration of the Netherworld’s aura of death. He struggled with all his might, staggering toward the holy barrier as streams of deadly aura surged madly into his body.
Bang!
Herr fell inside the barrier.
"Hurry! Heal him!" Bishop Maxim shouted. "Activate the Descent passage! Return immediately!"
Caleb was completely terrified.
He saw Herr’s face turn pale as the aura of death continued to seep from his body. Several oracles gathered around him, casting holy spells to ease his condition.
Even a Tier 10 oracle like Herr had ended up in such a state?
Caleb had thought that after reporting Adam’s situation to the kingdom, the skies over Holy Eagle City would finally clear. Yet instead, everything had grown even darker.
"Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!!!!"
What?!
Just as Caleb was lost in thought, he suddenly heard violent impacts. Startled, he looked up—and his eyes widened in terror.
Around the holy barrier, countless Underworld Hunters emerged from the shadows, launching reverse cross-slash attacks at the barrier repeatedly.
Each strike made the holy barrier tremble violently.
Inside the barrier, cold sweat drenched the backs of the city church’s oracles.
Judging from the current attack frequency, there had to be at least one to two hundred Underworld Hunters lurking in the shadows outside the holy barrier.
No one spoke. The silence was eerie. Within the barrier, only the sound of heavy breathing and the priests’ rhythmic chanting could be heard.
Caleb sensed something was wrong and couldn’t help asking, "It’s already been three minutes. Why isn’t the Descent completed yet?"
"The barrier passage lacks energy," one priest answered after a moment of silence. "At this rate, it will take another two minutes at most."
Caleb let out a slight sigh of relief. At least they just needed to hold on for about five minutes to leave this cursed place.
"In two minutes, the holy barrier will completely collapse."
"What?!"
Caleb’s face changed instantly.
What did that mean?
They were all going to die here!?
"Pointless resistance."
Lifting his head, Caleb noticed Adam slowly approaching from outside the holy barrier.
Adam’s gaze swept over the bishop and the others, his tone filled with pity, "The Shadow God is willing to give you a chance to submit. Will you accept it?"
"Fool! What Shadow God! Adam! You’ve been corrupted by the power of the Netherworld!"
An oracle shouted angrily, "Wake up!"
"Corrupted?" Adam sneered coldly. "It’s you who have been corrupted by your so-called god." His eyes grew colder. "I’ll count to three. Anyone who wishes to live, step out of the barrier and accept the Shadow God’s blessing."
Insane?
Step out of the barrier? Expose themselves to the aura of death?
Even if they weren’t torn apart by the Underworld Hunters outside, they would surely die from the violent aura of the Netherworld.
The church members turned pale as they looked at Adam.
"Adam, stop this. Even if you kill all of us, what good will it do? Once the city church’s bishop dies, the regional churches will send people to investigate. Do you think you can kill them all? Can you even kill the God Clan?"
"One."
"Crack!"
As Adam began counting, the surrounding dark aura surged violently toward the holy barrier. Cracks spread rapidly across its surface, accompanied by sharp cracking sounds.
Everyone’s expressions changed drastically.
Not good!
Adam could actually control the power of death from the Netherworld!
"Two..."
The cracks on the barrier spread quickly, covering almost the entire outer layer. It looked as though it could shatter at any moment.
Everyone stared at Adam, their faces tense.
No one could tell how much of what he said was true or false.
But one thing was certain — Adam truly had the power to kill them all here.
"No! I don’t want to die!"
One oracle, unable to withstand the crushing spiritual pressure, gritted his teeth and ran out of the holy barrier, shouting.
Huh?
Caleb’s pupils contracted. To his shock, the oracle who stepped outside remained unharmed in the Netherworld environment.
The thick aura of death actually split apart around him?
He wasn’t dead?!
Hope for survival flared in Caleb’s heart. He immediately ran out of the holy barrier, followed by more than ten other oracles who could no longer endure the fear of death and fled outside the barrier.
"Three."
Bang!!!!
Caleb heard the sound of the defensive barrier shattering behind him.
Turning around, he saw the berserk aura of death crush the holy barrier in an instant, flooding inward. A swarm of Underworld Hunters burst out from the dense death aura, frantically attacking and devouring the church members.
In less than half a minute, there was no sound left behind him.
Caleb’s heart pounded wildly. He forced himself not to look back at the horrific scene.
"Good. You’ve made the right choice. No matter what you were before, from now on, I want you to be the Shadow God’s most devoted followers."
"Don’t ever think of betraying the Shadow God," Adam said coldly. "Otherwise, you’ll find something far worse than death." He paused, then added, "Now, I need a handwritten letter of recommendation from the bishop."
...
Three days later.
Since the City Lord of Holy Eagle City had fallen gravely ill, Bishop Maxim of the city church also announced that he would enter seclusion, leaving all duties to a subordinate priest.
Rumors spread throughout the city that something had happened within the church.
But soon, all rumors vanished overnight.
At this time, Adam had already brought Bishop Maxim’s letter of recommendation to the Empire’s main city — Nassi City.
The largest city of the Eastern Empire.
Fang Heng and Zane were both attached to Adam.
The development of the Netherworld had reached a temporary bottleneck.
By sheer numbers alone, even Tier 8–9 soul warrior spirits found it difficult to defeat the countless high-tier Netherworld creatures, limiting the expansion of the death realm fusion passage.
In addition, several oracles had recently entered the spiritual world to investigate.
Although Fang Heng’s vampire subordinates had quickly erased their spirits with ruthless efficiency, he still felt uneasy.
The risk of exposing the spiritual world was drawing closer.
He needed to move faster.
After taking full control of Holy Eagle City, Fang Heng immediately ordered Adam to head for Nassi City, hoping to find a breakthrough there.
