Chapter 2977: Running Away

Fang Heng stared intently at the life form gradually emerging from the center of the tumor.
As the outer layer of the corrupted shell peeled away layer by layer, it revealed a semi-humanoid life form at the center.
The right half of her body had completely transformed into a worm body, with dense blood vessel-like tentacles protruding from the gaps between muscle textures, twitching in sync with the pulses of the insect nest below. The left half, however, still retained the outline of a human female.
The aura was incredibly strong!
From his perception, she was a ’cultivator’!
On the main ship, everyone revealed heavy expressions.
"Boom!!!"
The next moment, the insect nest beneath the cultivator’s body exploded with a loud boom on its own!
Massive swarms of insects poured out from the shattered insect nest!
Among them were even numerous Seed of Ouroboros polymer units!
Exactly as Fang Heng had predicted!
Taking advantage of the interval after the first wave of the Star Eye’s attack, the cultivator nurtured within the insect nest was awakened, and the insect nest shattered to launch a proactive assault. The mutant worms instantly launched a counterattack in all directions!
Seeing this, the captain of the Crocodile Clan immediately called for stabilization of the situation and shouted, "Don’t panic! Hold the formation, fall back, restrict their movement range, and stop them from escaping the Star Eye’s attack zone!"
Caught off guard by the intense counterattack, the ships repositioned and fell back into formation.
Elite teams from various races gradually entered the battlefield and began the slaughter.
Fang Heng narrowed his eyes, surveying the battlefield, and caught a glimpse of the Shadow Clan captain and several other alien captains in the Alliance giving commands.
The Shadow Clan captain seemed to notice Fang Heng’s gaze and looked at him, his expression filled with a strong warning.
"There’s no need for humans to join the battle for now. You all may stay on standby."
"Of course, with the Alliance’s strength, taking down the insect nest won’t be a problem."
Fang Heng understood that the Shadow Clan was confident in winning the battle and didn’t want him to interfere or share any credit, so he shrugged and pointed toward the Seed of Ouroboros polymer floating midair above the shattered insect nest to remind everyone.
"As far as I know, the Seed of Ouroboros includes not only the main mutant worm but also something called a ’cultivator’. That might be the cultivator. We should be cautious."
Before the Shadow Clan captain could respond, the Crocodile Clan captain sneered and said disdainfully, "Heh, ’cultivator’? Just a dying struggle. No need for you humans to worry about it."
The exploding insect nest indeed caused quite some trouble for the allied forces, but soon, the retreating ships regained control of the situation and began rapidly depleting the mutant worms’ combat strength.
As the insect nest was destroyed, with no new mutant worms to replenish the forces, the strength of the swarm’s assault gradually diminished.
A Crocodile Clan warrior looked provocatively at Fang Heng and said, "Well?"
"Not bad."
Captain Gisele looked worriedly toward the main battlefield where the Seed of Ouroboros mother form was still floating midair and asked in a low voice, "Fang Heng, is the situation bad?"
"I think the Shadow Clan should have their own special abilities. Even if the cultivator makes a move, it’s hard to say who will win."
Whoosh!
As they spoke, the mother form floating in midair above the shattered insect nest suddenly opened its eyes and dashed toward a Crocodile Clan squad.
"Whoosh!"
The Seed of Ouroboros’ mother form moved extremely fast, turning into a black shadow in an instant.
"Bang!! Bang!! Bang!!!!"
The Crocodile Clan squad couldn’t even see how the mother form attacked. A black shadow flashed past, and they were instantly sent flying, their bodies covered in gruesome, torn wounds.
"Stop it!"
The elite Shadow Clan team personally engaged.
Hundreds of shadows surged out from various warships, rushing swiftly toward the Seed of Ouroboros’ mother form.
Shadow sphere!
The mother form was engulfed in the shadow sphere, with countless shadows torn by the sphere reflected beneath its feet, drastically reducing its speed.
Only at this point could most of the other clans finally discern the mother form’s attack mode.
Spiked assault!
The Seed of Ouroboros’ mother body raised its wrist and aimed at a Red Demon Clan warrior attempting a sneak attack from the right. In an instant, countless barbed flesh spikes gathered inside its body shot out, piercing through the warrior and blasting him away.
The Shadow Clan forces launched their coordinated attack, forming thin layers of shadows along the ground that rapidly surrounded the mother form.
Hm?
Fang Heng let out a light murmur.
The mother form’s spike attacks were extremely potent, their speed overwhelming, and their surface covered in barbs—just a graze could scrape off layers of flesh.
However, Fang Heng personally witnessed one of the spikes slash through a Shadow Clan warrior without causing any substantial damage.
"It’s shadowform, the Shadow Clan’s special ability."
Fang Heng turned to the Red Demon Clan captain beside him.
The captain saw the doubt in Fang Heng’s eyes and explained, "It’s the Shadow Clan’s innate ability. When under attack, their bodies can partially enter a shadow state to completely avoid damage."
"Very powerful."
Fang Heng nodded slightly.
At first glance, it seemed like a skill that allowed the body to become intangible briefly, immune to physical attacks.
Whether it could avoid spells, though, remained unknown.
At the very least, the Ouroboros’ mother form didn’t seem to possess spell abilities at this stage.
Apart from shadowform, the Shadow Clan’s melee combat strength was also very strong. Combined with their shadow-based spell control, over a hundred elite Shadow Clan warriors quickly confined the mother form to the central area, steadily depleting its HP.
The surrounding Seed of Ouroboros units tried to rush in to help the mother form break free, but were intercepted by other allied teams.
It looked like the Shadow Clan alliance had fully gained control of the situation.
The battle lasted more than ten minutes. Several attempts by the mother form to break out failed. The swarm’s numbers were greatly reduced, some ships were damaged, but the entire swarm was still trapped within the Star Eye’s attack range.
The Star Eye’s cooldown ended!
From the cloudy sky, spatial energy points began to flicker again, and the dark purple muzzle of the Star Eye emerged from spatial fluctuations.
"Boom!!!"
A dark purple energy beam fired from the giant cannon, instantly engulfing the entire central region!
Masses of mutant worms were vaporized within the beam without making a sound.
Another ten minutes of concentrated annihilation by the energy weapon.
Once the beam dissipated, all that remained of the Seed of Ouroboros polymers gathered on the battlefield were piles of squirming meat sludge on the ground. The mother form was heavily wounded, lying on the ground, body twitching and writhing uncontrollably as foul-smelling blood continued to ooze from within.
"Attack!"
The momentum shifted.
Elite alien squads surged onto the battlefield for cleanup.
The mission was finally over.
Captain Gisele and the federation players from the western region felt a sense of relief.
It hadn’t been a wasted trip.
At least, they’d managed to blend in and claim a bit of reward.
Moreover, they got to witness the general strength of their allied spawns.
The Federation would evaluate the alien races upon returning.
They needed to leave quickly.
