Chapter 361: Chapter 219: Arranging Guards, Futile Ambush

Regardless of whether the massive ships from the Dawn Base were carrying supplies, even if they were empty, they could be repurposed as farming platforms. If the Xi’an Base hijacked them, it would be a guaranteed win.

Everyone assumed those massive ships were returning to the Aircraft Carrier Base, and Bao Mu was no exception. That’s why he arranged for a team to lie in ambush on the route between the Dawn Base and the Aircraft Carrier Base!

While Bao Mu was plotting to raid the Aircraft Carrier Base’s fleet, Ren Yuanyang was frowning deeply as he read the discussion on the regional channel.

After a moment of contemplation, he immediately sent a message to the three captains.

"Three captains, since the Xi’an Base is planning to ambush our fleet, any convoys traveling between the Aircraft Carrier Base and the Dawn Base could be in danger from now on!"

Seeing Ren Yuanyang’s message, Wang Jun looked at Ji Yizhi, who was sitting across from him, and said with a smile, "You two were thinking the same thing!"

Ji Yizhi nodded slightly. He had just been discussing this very issue with Wang Jun.

Wang Jun immediately initiated a video conference.

"What’s going on? Did something happen?" Long Zhan was the first to speak once the call connected.

"We’re concerned the Xi’an Base will send out more warships to intercept our trade convoys!" Wang Jun said. "You probably haven’t seen Brother Yang’s message in the group chat yet!"

Only then did Long Zhan glance at the messages in their small four-person group chat and see the one from Ren Yuanyang.

He frowned slightly and added, "They have a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, but their other warships can’t run on electricity alone, can they? Their fuel reserves must be running low!"

"That’s true, but if they’re purely motivated by revenge, they might just burn through their last bit of fuel for one final raid on us!" Ji Yizhi theorized.

Ren Yuanyang chimed in, "That’s highly likely. They’ve already suffered several losses at our hands, so they’re bound to retaliate viciously!"

"So, does this mean we’ll have to assign more ships to protect the trade convoys in the future?" Long Zhan frowned. "That means our fuel consumption will go up again!"

"Even if it costs us more fuel, we have to guarantee their safety!" Wang Jun said in a grave voice.

"Exactly. And as for fuel, you don’t need to worry too much. There’s enough for all of us!" Ren Yuanyang nodded.

Long Zhan froze for a second, then slapped his forehead. "That’s right! With you providing a steady supply of fuel, we don’t have to worry about consumption at all!"

Wang Jun rolled his eyes. "We still need to conserve where we can!"

"I get it. I just mean we don’t have to be so stingy about it!" Long Zhan chuckled.

"Right. As long as it’s for standard operations, it won’t be an issue," Ren Yuanyang nodded.

"That’s a relief to hear!" Long Zhan said with a laugh. "From now on, let’s have every trade convoy escorted by ten frigates!"

Wang Jun nodded, then asked with a frown, "What about the route between the Dawn Base and the Peach Blossom Base? Should we assign an escort there?"

"Let’s hold off for now," Ren Yuanyang replied after a moment’s thought. "Besides, our base isn’t far from the Dawn Base. If an attack does happen, both of our bases will be close enough to send aid!"

"Alright, we’ll leave it for now," Wang Jun agreed.

Ji Yizhi spoke up again. "We could actually use speedboats to harass them. Speedboats are highly maneuverable, and if we station two Gold-Type Evolvers on board, we can practically guarantee their safety. We could lead the enemy around by the nose and make them waste some of their fuel!"

Wang Jun nodded slightly. "That’s a good idea. It’ll take some time for you to load those freighters, won’t it, Brother Yang?"

"It will indeed take some time," Ren Yuanyang replied.

"Good. Then in the meantime, our trades will be done by speedboat. We’ll see if we can bait the enemy at the same time," Wang Jun continued.

"Got it. I’ll have the personnel transporting the herbs be on the lookout," Long Zhan replied.

"Alright, that’s the plan for now. We’re counting on you for the freighters, Brother Yang!" Wang Jun said to Ren Yuanyang in closing.

"Understood. We’ll be as quick as we can," Ren Yuanyang replied, then ended the call.

By 6:00 PM, the Xi’an Base team had been lying in ambush for two or three hours, but the fleet the survivors had spoken of was still nowhere to be seen.

The commander of the ambush team couldn’t resist sending a message to Bao Mu.

"Sir, we’ve been lying in ambush here for nearly three hours and haven’t seen a single ship. Is it possible the fleet isn’t returning to the Aircraft Carrier Base at all?"

Bao Mu was taken aback by the message. "No fleet has come through at all?"

"No, sir. I even have speedboats patrolling the surrounding waters, and they haven’t encountered a single vessel!" the commander replied with absolute certainty.

Bao Mu frowned. "But all the survivors said the fleet left the Dawn Base. Are they really not returning to the Aircraft Carrier Base?"

"Given the Dawn Base’s location, even if their fleet was moving slowly, they should have reached our ambush point by now. The fact they haven’t appeared suggests they’re most likely not heading back to the Aircraft Carrier Base!" the commander analyzed.

Bao Mu slowly nodded.

"Then should we continue to lie in wait here?" the commander asked for orders.

"Of course. Even if that fleet isn’t returning to the Aircraft Carrier Base this time, the two bases will have to exchange resources eventually. Just stay put and stand by for now," Bao Mu replied.

"Yes, sir!" the commander replied. "However, lying in wait here is also consuming fuel. We’ll monitor our reserves and make a call on when to return based on that."
