Chapter 355: Chapter 216: Barbecue Feast, Boundless Happiness
Ren Yuanyang paused for a moment when he saw Long Zhan’s message, but he quickly realized Qin Haonan must have told him about it.
"Yeah, when Haonan heads over tomorrow, I’ll have him bring some for you!" Ren Yuanyang replied with a smile.
"You don’t have to tell me, I’m really craving some!" Long Zhan replied without the slightest bit of ceremony.
"I’ll invite you to our base to eat sometime in the future," Ren Yuanyang promised.
"Then I’ll hold you to that!" Long Zhan laughed heartily.
"Right. The timing isn’t great right now, so it’s not convenient to host you," Ren Yuanyang said with a nod.
"I understand, I can wait!" Long Zhan smiled, then continued, "The fleet from the Aircraft Carrier Base should reach Dawn Base tomorrow morning. You’ll need to arrange for some pilots who can handle large ships to come over and sail them back to your base."
"Alright," Ren Yuanyang replied. "A lot of ships are coming this time, so it might take us a while to get them fully loaded."
"I get it. The resources you provided before were enough to cover our emergency needs, so there’s no real rush for this," Long Zhan said understandingly.
"Sounds good. We’ll let you know as soon as we’re ready," Ren Yuanyang said, bringing the chat to an end.
Time passed slowly, and at 5:10 in the afternoon, Qin Haonan returned to Peach Blossom Base.
"You guys were way too fast this time! You actually came back fifty minutes early!" Ren Yuanyang was rather speechless.
Qin Haonan replied with a laugh, "I didn’t want to hold up the barbecue tonight!"
Ren Yuanyang waved him off. "Then go on, hurry up and help out."
"You got it!" Qin Haonan immediately walked towards the slaughterhouse.
Meanwhile, aboard the supply ship, James and his men had already finished their work for the day, but there was still no word about dinner.
"What’s going on today? Usually, we’d have started dinner by now!" Des said, a little confused.
"Yeah, I’ve already sent a team member to the dining hall to see what’s going on," James nodded.
Soon, a team member ran back in a hurry.
"Captain, there’s no one in the dining hall, and no food!"
James frowned. "No food? Don’t tell me they aren’t feeding us tonight."
"That can’t be right!" Des said, uncertainly.
Just then, Si Youqin hurried over.
"Captain Si, is there no dinner being served tonight?" James couldn’t help but ask.
Si Youqin paused, slightly taken aback. "You don’t know we’re having a barbecue tonight?"
Ren Yuanyang hadn’t kept this news a secret, and word had quickly spread throughout Peach Blossom Base. James and the others had naturally heard people discussing it.
But they never dared to imagine that the base’s barbecue would have anything to do with them.
"We get to have barbecue too?" James’s face was full of disbelief.
"Every chef in the base has been roped into prepping for the barbecue, so of course there’s some for you!" Si Youqin replied. "But with so many of you, you’ll have to do the grilling yourselves. I’m here to tell you to quickly set up some tents on deck. You’ll need to arrange for your own people to do the barbecuing inside them."
Ren Yuanyang didn’t want them grilling below deck; otherwise, the entire ship would fill with smoke.
The idea was to grill outside and take the food inside to eat.
"Yes, of course! Thank the Leader, and thank you, Captain Si! I’ll get it arranged right away!" James replied, his voice filled with excitement.
Si Youqin nodded slightly. "Have twenty of your men come with me to carry the ingredients."
"Yes, ma’am!" James was even more thrilled.
’Forget about whether there’s meat or not. Asking this many people to help carry ingredients means there must be a ton of food!’
James called all the Evolvers to follow Si Youqin off the supply ship.
The other captives from Xi’an Base also found out they would be getting barbecue tonight, and they all began to cheer.
"This is great! I never thought I’d get to eat grilled meat!"
"Peach Blossom Base treats us too well. I want to work here forever!"
"Why do I feel like life as a captive now is even better than before?"
"Because it is. You should trust your gut!"
James and the others followed Si Youqin to the slaughterhouse. The smell of blood was thick in the air, and strips of butchered meat hung everywhere.
Dozens of people stood off to the side, constantly threading meat onto skewers.
James couldn’t help but swallow. He was utterly shocked. ’How many animals did they slaughter?’ he wondered. ’Are they not planning on saving any for later?’
Seeing James and his men approach, Xin Wan stood up and pointed to a row of wooden barrels. "Those five barrels of meat skewers and ten barrels of vegetable skewers are for your ship. Go ahead and carry them over yourselves."
"Yes, Minister Xin!" James replied immediately, then motioned for everyone to come forward and start carrying.
"This is so heavy! One barrel must be at least two hundred pounds!"
"Is all this meat really for us? That means everyone gets over a pound!"
"And that’s not even counting the vegetables! We’re going to eat like kings tonight!"
James and his men whispered among themselves as they carried the ingredients.
"There’s also charcoal and all the seasonings you’ll need for the barbecue. Take it all back with you," Xin Wan added.
"Yes, thank you, Minister Xin!"
Fortunately, they were all Evolvers, so each person could easily carry one barrel.
"Once you get everything back to the ship, don’t start right away. Wait for our signal," Si Youqin reminded them.
"Understood!" James replied.
After their group returned to the supply ship, everyone crowded around.
The aroma of the marinated meat skewers wafted through the air, and everyone’s mouths began to water.
"It smells amazing! Can we start grilling now?"
"Yeah, I can’t wait!"
