Chapter 331: Chapter 205: The Fate of Betrayal, Unknown Virus
The Dragon Country People who had defected from the Aircraft Carrier Base were locked up for two hours before the hatch finally opened again.
Their lips were dry and pale. When they saw someone enter, they couldn’t help but lick their parched lips.
"I am Bao Mu, the supreme leader of the Xi’an Base. Are you from the Aircraft Carrier Base?"
Hearing the newcomer’s self-introduction, their eyes immediately lit up.
The man in the lead scrambled to his feet, half-crawling, half-stumbling. He bowed as he approached Bao Mu and immediately replied in a foreign language, "My lord, we are indeed from the Aircraft Carrier Base. We followed your orders and incited unrest among the regular survivors. The Aircraft Carrier Base won’t last much longer. It’s probably already in chaos!"
Bao Mu snorted. "In chaos? They’ve already taken Dawn Base! We lost eight warships!"
The leader’s face filled with confusion. He quickly added, "Perhaps it’s because of the internal chaos that a portion of their forces split off!"
"Hmph. The Aircraft Carrier Base has already issued a statement. Haven’t you been paying attention to the news on the regional channel?" Bao Mu’s voice was laced with deep dissatisfaction.
"My lord, we were just so thirsty! We really haven’t paid attention to the regional channel these past two days!" the man said, hastily admitting his error.
"Then what use are you to me?" Bao Mu said coldly. "Take them all to the labs!"
"Yes, sir!" The soldiers at the side immediately stepped forward.
The traitors from the Aircraft Carrier Base froze for a moment, then panic erupted among them.
"My lord, have mercy! We’re completely loyal to the Sea Eagle Country! You can’t do this to us!"
"I don’t want to be a test subject! I want to go back to the Aircraft Carrier Base!"
"We worked so hard to sow chaos in the Aircraft Carrier Base, and you just cast us aside once you’re done with us! It’s despicable!"
For a moment, the scene descended into chaos. But after Bao Mu pulled out his handgun and shot one person dead, everyone fell silent.
"Hmph. If you hadn’t exposed yourselves and fled the Aircraft Carrier Base prematurely, we would have known about their move in advance. We wouldn’t have been caught so off-guard! The Dawn Base we fought so hard to take wouldn’t have been snatched away by them!" Bao Mu actually blamed the failure of the operation on the traitors getting exposed too early and leaving the Aircraft Carrier Base.
"Mercy, my lord! We were just following your instructions!"
"Did we tell you to leave the Aircraft Carrier Base?" Bao Mu shot them a look and asked in a frigid tone.
The leader was completely stunned. They hadn’t received such an order. They had just been worried the Aircraft Carrier Base would run out of water, and since they’d been exposed while inciting the crowd, they weighed their options and decided to flee the Aircraft Carrier Base to seek refuge at the Xi’an Base.
"But we were already exposed! We would have been useless if we stayed there!" the leader tried to argue.
Bao Mu replied, "That just proves you did a poor job. Since you’re incompetent, you have to accept punishment. Take them away."
The soldiers no longer hesitated and immediately rushed forward. No matter how much the men begged for mercy, Bao Mu remained impassive.
At this moment, all the survivors who had followed their leader in betraying the Aircraft Carrier Base were filled with regret. On the Aircraft Carrier Base, at least they wouldn’t have been turned into lab experiments. Even if fresh water was scarce, they would have at least stayed alive.
Now, being sent to the labs at the Xi’an Base was practically a death sentence.
After the men were taken away, Bao Mu was lost in thought.
"Do you think the Aircraft Carrier Base attacked Dawn Base to secure more water?" he suddenly asked.
The aide at his side immediately shook his head. "I doubt it. If they knew about our deal with the Dawn Base, they’d know Dawn Base has no fresh water either. It wouldn’t be worth the effort and resources to conquer it."
Bao Mu nodded slightly.
The aide continued, "Besides, more than one survivor on the regional channel has said that on the Aircraft Carrier Base, water is free for the taking."
"Couldn’t that just be propaganda from the Aircraft Carrier Base? They have a huge population. ’Free for the taking’ sounds like a gross exaggeration." Bao Mu’s brow furrowed.
"After these idiotic spies were exposed, we lost our eyes and ears inside the Aircraft Carrier Base. We can’t determine the real situation for now," the aide said, shaking his head helplessly.
Bao Mu nodded slightly. "For now, let’s stop focusing on the Aircraft Carrier Base. We need to accelerate the development of the Evolution Potion. If we have enough Evolvers, our base’s development will speed up immensely."
"Yes, sir." The aide nodded, then his brow furrowed. "What do we do about Hailan?"
Bao Mu’s brow tightened. "Knowing Dragon Country, the Aircraft Carrier Base probably won’t harm her. They must have used a massive amount of energy to get here, so they won’t be leaving the Dawn Base anytime soon. Let’s observe the situation before deciding on our next move."
Meanwhile, inside the Dawn Base, the interrogation of the prisoners was nearly complete.
Hailan, as the person in charge of the Evolution Potion experiments, was identified as the prime culprit.
Long Zhan flipped through the interrogation results and handed them to Ren Yuanyang.
"This woman is seriously vicious," Long Zhan remarked.
Ren Yuanyang skimmed the results and nodded. "Yeah, I didn’t expect such a beautiful woman to be so vicious."
Long Zhan paused, then asked with a grin, "What? You interested in this beauty, Brother Yang?"
Ren Yuanyang rolled his eyes. "Look at the situation we’re in. I don’t have the time to be thinking with my dick."
