Global Dungeon: I Can See the Status Bar
Chapter 712 - 326: Fire Element, You Big *@.jpg
Looking at Lu Wenwu’s humble and eager-to-learn demeanor, Douglas felt a great sense of relief and a touch of pride.
Though you dragons are naturally a magic race, we humans are not bad either.
Even if we do not have innate powerful strength, through our own cultivation, generation after generation of mages and other cultivators have strived forward, ultimately securing the position of dominance in this world.
Status is earned through strength.
Ancient magic... sigh...
Thinking of the difficulty of learning ancient magic, Douglas felt a twinge of bitterness in his heart.
Even though he is an absolute celestial pride in the current magic realm, his research on ancient magic isn’t even considered superficial.
This is almost considered a break in the inheritance.
The legend of the Heavenly Son who could naturally master ancient magic... it’s been a full three thousand years since one has appeared.
This is not a good omen.
The closer we get to the present day, the fewer the Heavenly Sons appear, and the longer the intervals between their appearances.
Inheritance and knowledge are things that need people as a foundation to maintain.
If the base is too small, it will lead to technological gaps and regression.
Some magical items from ancient times, with the current knowledge of mages, cannot be replicated with the same effectiveness.
They can only be imitated to the best of our abilities.
Certainly, a child of the earth like me, with top-tier talent, could, by chance, master one or two ancient magics, but as the time lengthens without a true Heavenly Son appearing, will this ancient and powerful force truly become lost?
Even if I continue to perfect that notebook passed down by generations of principals, attempting to decipher and research ancient magic, I fear it will be futile.
Without anyone able to understand and perform it, over time, future students will only regard it as mythical legends and no longer believe it as true.
Douglas’s thoughts drifted, inadvertently deviating.
Until Lu Wenwu’s eager voice brought him completely out of that introspection.
"Principal, may I give it a try?" said Lu Wenwu.
"Try? Of course you can, Mr. Tyrannosaurus."
Douglas was momentarily stunned, then made a gesture of invitation, simultaneously retrieving a thick magic book from a magic storage artifact and handing it over.
"This is a notebook compiled by mages who mastered ancient magic throughout the generations at this college, documenting their understanding and experiences with ancient magic, which you may borrow to read for now."
"You may try and peruse as much as you like before lights out, but do not force it; many of the assumptions here are merely unverified conjectures. I wouldn’t want the King of Dragons to chase me down with a bounty."
"Thank you so much!" Lu Wenwu’s eyes lit up.
He didn’t rush to try understanding the language of the Dimension Wanderer but first skimmed through the magic book.
With the aid of his divine sense, he could rapidly scan and memorize everything.
This lightning-fast reading speed amazed Douglas alongside, who did not feel surprised at this.
He attributed it to Lu Wenwu’s unique bloodline.
Ordinary dragons mostly rely on developing bloodline-inherited dragon language magic, disdainful of reading human books or learning human powers.
However, Lu Wenwu immerses himself in the library daily, seeking learning from various professors, which might be what sets ancient dragons apart from other pure-blooded giant dragons.
Quickly, Lu Wenwu finished reading the magic book and returned it to the headmaster.
The experiences recorded in the book were not useless but indeed not of much use.
Even those who truly mastered ancient magic, the Heavenly Sons, couldn’t completely research it thoroughly and only put forward many vague guesses.
According to these predecessors, Heavenly Sons seem to naturally have a vague sense of knowing how to chant those strange and awkward spells, mobilizing the power of elements.
However, since everyone is proficient in different attributes, most can only mobilize the power of one element.
Occasionally, one who can mobilize two attribute powers will mostly die young and not end well due to some strange reasons.
To analyze ancient magic based on the capabilities of one generation of geniuses after another, a highly esteemed old principal even forcibly recorded a few simple spells in a "phonetic transcription" manner, hoping to provide some help to later generations.
It’s somewhat similar to forcibly using Divine Continent language to phonetically transcribe English words.
Like, ’come is kang, go is gou, nodding is yes, shaking head is no.’
It belongs to that odd scenario where Divine Continent people find it strange yet understandable, while English people find it familiar yet incomprehensible.
Lu Wenwu tried to understand it.
Completely useless, the pronunciation was too abstract.
The language of the Dimension Wanderers mastered by the Heavenly Sons and the Children of the Earth has already changed, and now repeating it in an abstract phonetically transcribed way is totally mismatched.
As for recording it and having others listen, memorize, and repeat?
Often, even if you remember the pronunciation in your head, it’s not so easy to produce, and even conscious training can’t alter or produce it properly.
The rolling Rs in Russian, some bizarre pronunciations in certain African dialects, are things many people cannot master despite listening to countless audio clips.
Were it simple to remember and pronounce, everyone in Divine Continent would have already passed the standard Mandarin test, right...
