Chapter 49: Good Stuff—Let’s Try It with Jianbing

Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Good Stuff—Let’s Try It with Jianbing

After a congenial and friendly exchange, the five obtained quite a bit of useful information.

Since the nuclear war broke out, nearly two hundred years have passed.

Many creatures, drenched in nuclear radiation and some unknown forces, mutated into mindless monsters.

They are referred to as deformed bodies.

There are humans among them, as well as former animals.

Most wastelanders typically hunt deformed bodies for food.

Currently, in this piece of mutated wilderness where they are, aside from the Giant Bone Gathering Place, there are five other gatherings of similar size, all believing in the so-called Great Evolution God.

What is the Great Evolution God?

Even the priest couldn’t articulate it, only repeatedly mentioning it’s a great existence; wastelanders survived thanks to the Great Evolution God’s protection.

If one’s body exhibits mutations like tentacles or shells, they’re called evolvers.

This is regarded as the widespread grace of the Great Evolution God.

Should certain powers emerge, like controlling the earth, flame, ice, wastelanders would believe it’s divine power granted by the Great Evolution God and would respectfully call them priests.

Evolvers and priests roughly have a Tier One to Tier Six division based on strength.

Corresponding to players’ C Tier to B Tier.

D Tier here is equivalent to ordinary people’s level, thus not divided.

Above Tier Seven, corresponding to players’ A- Level existence seems absent.

At least this priest hasn’t heard of any entity that powerful.

But among the deformed bodies, there exists, presently in this piece of mutated wilderness, at least one Tier Seven deformed body.

Such a powerful existence is also crowned with the title “Emperor”.

In terms of forces, the wasteland era completely segments settlements similarly to tribes.

Besides the five gatherings nearby, this priest only knows that beyond a cluster of deformed bodies, further east, there’s a settlement believing in the God of Eternal Glory.

Followers of the God of Eternal Glory can wield particular powers far stranger than superpowers to perform various unbelievable acts.

However, this priest hasn’t even figured out what his own gods are.

The five didn’t expect him to clarify other deities.

Upon understanding some of the situations, the five… four discussed and decided to check out the Giant Bone Gathering Place first to gather more information.

“You, lead the way back to your gathering place.”

Lu Wenwu retracted his big foot, dragged the unfortunate priest up.

The priest is a typical high-status person of this era, never lacking resources.

Thus, he’s naturally happy to play the guide, leading the few as they pivoted and headed back.

Old John and the remaining few hesitated to speak.

They wanted to search for some remaining scraps but didn’t dare leave the priest’s protection.

With their “ordinary people” level, penetrating this far is basically a gift.

Exploration needs time.

They don’t have spiritual power for sensing, a round of search would take at least several hours.

Seems similar, but is indeed a matter of life and death.

“Amitabha Buddha, benefactor, that pit has nothing long-term, only a preserved map, walk another half-hour from here, you’ll reach it,” Master Ruhuo kindly reminded before leaving, “But please don’t lose your life because of futile greed for those illusory riches.”

Upon these words, several scavengers were immediately entangled in thought.

In the end, only Old John and Takeda stifled their urge to investigate, following the team to depart.

As for the rest…

They probably perished after the group left.

After all, no one caught up with the main team.

Attacks by deformed bodies are extremely common in this desert.

After walking out for barely half an hour, three monsters the shape of buffalo came charging ahead.

Their eyes had long lost their ancestors’ meekness.

Replaced by deep madness.

Lu Wenwu glanced at them disinterestedly.

Their powers were too low, killing them wouldn’t yield feedback.

“Amitabha Buddha.”

The old monk clasping Buddhist beads in his left hand performed a Buddhist salute, while a normal-appearing modified 92 handgun in his right had already been loaded.

“Merciful Buddha, may you ascend to bliss soon.”

Three brass bullets shot out under the power of gunpowder, wrapped in an unexplained pale golden force, forming drill-like shapes in the air.

The three deformed bodies didn’t even have a chance to wail, taken by the old monk’s precise triple shots.

A faint white flame flickered and burned on their bodies, scorching out streams of swirling, flying black-red smoke.

“Amitabha Buddha…”

Lu Wenwu’s expression became peculiar watching the entire process.

If he wasn’t mistaken…

Wasn’t this the Merciful Buddha Spear!

Lu Wenwu often feels he would somehow encounter what he had sold in another form in the future.

“A gun! This is an old-era handgun!”

Slowly reacting Old John suddenly shouted excitedly, disregarding everything to scavenge the three hot casings like they were rare treasures.

“Beautiful… so beautiful… just like new from the factory… completely different from refurbished…”

The expression on his face was incredibly mesmerized.

The old monk thought for a long time but ultimately hesitated to say it was newly manufactured, produced less than a week ago.

“Amitabha Buddha, if you like it, take it,” Master Ruhuo dryly said, “As for those three… deformed bodies, if useless, bury them.”

“Burying them might be too wasteful.”

The small-framed Takeda licked his lips, withdrew his samurai saber and swiftly moved forward, slicing the deformed bodies open, extracting three bloody large hearts.

His fingers stirred briefly inside and pulled out a small translucent white meat mass, presenting it like a treasure.

“Dear sirs, look, this is muscle meat, the essence within the deformed bodies’ hearts. Eating it can increase strength, allegedly add a few years to life, and increase the chance of receiving divine power from the Great Evolution God.”

Lu Wenwu picked up a piece, sensing it with the unique style of a spirit chef.

“Life force and life energy fused into an essence of flesh, devoid of radiation and unknown pollution, usable for satisfying hunger.”

Upon giving the preliminary assessment, Lu Wenwu swallowed it whole, initiating Devouring Heaven and Earth to analyze it for the second time.

A faint energy blended into his body.

The increased attributes were less than 0.1, unshown on the system panel.

“Feels like ordinary Heart Guarding Meat, no fat, with a chewy texture yet flavorless after chewing, decent fullness, overall taste quite bland. It barely increases me, can reluctantly use as everyday foodstuff.”

Assuming a professional chef’s stance, Lu Wenwu evaluated.

This thing might make for a decent sausage when flavored, then fried with egg filling wrapped in flatbread.

But somehow need to add animal fat, or it wouldn’t be fragrant.

Or perhaps try making it into meat sauce, or maybe…

Takeda stood there dazed, stunned by Lu Wenwu’s low review of muscle meat.

Considering they rarely eat such a luxury, usually trading for cheaper resources.

Putting it to Lu Wenwu…

Only barely good for everyday consumption???

Before he processed it, the other two muscle meats were quickly shredded, plated by Lu Wenwu, sprinkled with pre-prepared chili oil and other condiments, mixed as a small dish with cucumber strips.

Lu Wenwu took out chopsticks, tasting a bite, smacked his lips: “Though not first-rate ingredients, not bad for cold dish mixing, if convenient grab more.”

Except for the uninterested old monk Ruhuo, the other three sang high praises.

Given their lower physical condition, the effects were noticeable compared to Lu Wenwu.

Priest, Takeda: “…”

Whoa, what the hell kind of people are these!

And what are those green strips of plants?

Perhaps it’s the legendary… vegetables?
