The vertical drop beneath the shattered timber pier didn’t end in mud. It broke through a ceiling of dry, volcanic stone and dropped them straight onto a wide floor made of black salt blocks. The air inside the chamber was dead, heavy, and tasted intensely of dry brine and old copper. It was hot, vibrating with a deep, mechanical hum that came from the darkness further down the rail tracks.

Jun-ho landed heavily, his large rubber boots making a flat, solid thud that echoed off the high vault walls. His monstrous endurance stat absorbed the force of the drop easily, his knees barely bending as he straightened his frame.

Right beside his shoulder, Eun-bi hit the gravel heap with a soft groan, her canvas bag slung tight across her waist. She had Gyeong-su’s old gray flannel shirt wrapped twice around her ribs, her fingers shaking as she adjusted her electric headlamp. Her dark hair was wet and messy, strands sticking to her forehead from the sea spray above.

"The air down here is old, Jun-ho," she said, her voice dropping into a quiet, raspy whisper that didn’t travel past the nearest stone pillar. She reached out, her bare fingers catching the frayed thread near his shoulder guard to steady her balance. Her thigh pressed hard against his shins, her body still shivering from the cold wind of the harbor. "My display isn’t registering a single ministry signal. The tracking loop is completely dead."

Jun-ho didn’t answer. He held The Ash Remnant low in his left hand, the new hemp wrap on the handle rough and firm against his palm. The square crossguard of raw black basin slag felt perfectly balanced, the blade absorbing the dim purple glow of the walls without a single reflection.

Right at the lower edge of his vision, the solid black lines were waiting.

A sharp, grinding noise echoed from the far end of the vault, followed by the heavy, deliberate click... click... click of metal boots against the stone floor.

Three pairs of high-power halogen searchlights cut through the dark grey fog behind them—the three Tier 5 Commanders had recovered from the skill freeze early. They had dropped their heavy extraction lines down the shaft, their white alloy armor covered in black mud, their silver staves already pulsing with a thick, active purple lightning current.

"Don’t move, novice!" the lead Commander barked, his voice booming across the underground roundhouse. He raised his staff, aiming the lightning straight at Jun-ho’s back. "The trial logic doesn’t matter! The Sun God Guild is sealing this room!"

Before the mages could release their spell, the floor in the center of the roundhouse split open with a massive, deafening screech of ungreased iron.

Out of the deep concrete pit rose the area boss—the Monarch’s Sentinel. It didn’t look like a standard fantasy monster; it was a massive, four-meter torso made of melted train wheels and black iron bars, its skull shaped like the flat front of an old coal locomotive. Inside its ribcage, a raw crystal core burned with a brilliant, blinding white fire that cast no light but radiated a heavy, suffocating weight through the air.

"Get behind the iron boiler casing, Eun-bi," Jun-ho said, his voice quiet and steady.

"Jun-ho, the mages are setting up the execute circle!" she called out, her voice dropping into that flat public-sector drawl as she backed toward the dark corner of the room, her heavy trauma scissors clutched loose but ready in her hand.

Jun-ho took two long steps forward, his boots crunching through the grey salt crust. He didn’t look at the three Commanders, and he didn’t look at the charging iron beast. He let the vast, frozen pool of his mana break its banks completely, the Ashen Domain - Phase 3 expanding outward in a flat, thirty-meter ring of thick grey frost.

The air inside the thirty-meter circle dropped forty degrees in a microsecond, the damp brine on the walls instantly turning into a thick sheet of white ice. The world inside the perimeter slowed down until the white fire inside the sentinel’s chest looked like a lazy, sputtering match flame hanging still in the fog.

The three Commanders lunged forward with their lightning staves, while the iron beast brought its massive track-arm down in a synchronized strike to crush his ribs.

Jun-ho didn’t drop into a vanguard block. He raised The Ash Remnant with his left hand, using just the snap of his wrist. Because of the soul-bound Phase 2 trait, the black wedge carried a five-hundred-fold weight calculation upon impact. He drove the matte-black blade straight through the center of the sentinel’s iron chest, the shockwave expanding outward in a single, massive ring of kinetic force.

The thunderclap was massive, a localized earthquake that shattered the locomotive-shaped boss into thousands of tiny gray scraps. The blast didn’t stop there; the shockwave traveled straight through the frozen air, hitting the three Commanders flush in the center of their white alloy breastplates. The alloy didn’t bounce the blow off; it buckled and broke instantly, throwing all three men backward into the stone walls of the vault with a sharp, heavy crunch that split the brickwork wide open.

The gray notification boxes piled up at the bottom of his eye like small blocks of stone, before clearing away to leave only the solid, ink-black text of his new level waiting on his screen.

Jun-ho stood perfectly straight in his rubber boots, the black iron wedge quiet in his left hand. The three corporate mages lay silent in the mud, their white armor broken, their selection contracts completely ruined by the zero floor logic.

He walked back toward the dark corner where Eun-bi was waiting with her canvas bag. She looked at the broken white armor pieces on the floor, then up at his calm, unbothered face, a dry, sharp smile pulling at the corner of her lips.

"The Sun God main line is going to need a whole new tracking detail, Jun-ho," she said, her voice soft but steady. She didn’t shift her weight back; her thigh stayed pressed firmly against the side of his heavy rubber boot as they looked down the open drainage tunnel that led out toward the unranked coastal gates.

"The line is clear," Jun-ho said.

He slung his duffel bag over his right shoulder, his fingers settling perfectly around the rough hemp handle of his sword as they walked together into the dark, leaving the broken anchors of the central district completely behind them in the gray mist of the open sea.
