Global Beast Mastery: Only I Can See the Hints

Chapter 638: Blazing Desire for Vengeance

Connell lay in the garbage heap for an entire day.

During that time, countless people passed by him.

Not a single one extended a hand to help—most only mocked him.

He, however, merely stared blankly into the distance, his eyes devoid of life, giving no reaction at all to the ridicule of the crowd.

Late at night, rats crawled out from the shadows.

They scoured the garbage heap for food, and some bolder ones even began gnawing at Connell’s body.

Connell made no move to resist, which in truth only encouraged the rats to keep tearing at him.

Their bites grew more frenzied—until suddenly, he seized the rat that was clamped onto his arm and crushed it to death.

The eyes that had been dull and lifeless were now blazing with the fury of vengeance.

Connell stood up and slaughtered every single rat around him.

“I must have revenge! Not just for myself—but for my family! I will not only make the Stellar Empire’s crown prince pay the price, I will make the entire Stellar Empire pay the price!”

His thirst for vengeance burned intensely.

Once his decision was made, he did not hesitate.

He left at once, taking his mystical beast and slipping out of Gold Fortress.

In truth, the guards of Gold Fortress noticed his movements.

But they made no attempt to stop him.

To them, Connell was nothing but trash. If he died in the garbage heap, so much the better. If he chose not to die there, then where he went was of no consequence.

After leaving Gold Fortress, Connell made his way quickly and effortlessly to the border between the Stellar Empire and the Serpent Empire.

There, he found the transparent barrier and slipped through it.

The moment he emerged on the Serpent Empire’s side, two Serpent soldiers seized him.

“I’ve come to join you! I can be of great help to you, because I possess extremely important intelligence!” Connell said with a smile.

The Serpent soldiers did not believe him, but neither did they make any rash decisions.

In the end, they chose to take Connell to Withered Tree Fortress.

By the time their group arrived at Withered Tree Fortress, the sun had already risen above the horizon.

Charles and General Sost happened to be inspecting the condition of the fortress wall.

Charles recognized Connell instantly.

General Sost, however, did not know him.

He frowned when he saw two Serpents approaching Withered Tree Fortress with a human in tow.

“They should not be bringing a human into Withered Tree Fortress! Even if this human is of great importance and requires urgent interrogation, he must be taken to another fortress.

Withered Tree Fortress cannot be risked under any circumstances! I must punish them severely, so they will understand never to act like this again!” General Sost said angrily.

Charles smiled and shook his head.

“You don’t actually need to be so cautious. At this point, any human who can still be captured by the Serpents is, in fact, someone who intended to be captured.

Besides, I know this man. He must have come to his senses, which is why he’s here to join us.”

Charles’s words left General Sost slightly surprised.

However, there was no way Sost could doubt Charles—if, under the current circumstances, he still questioned Charles’s judgment, then he might as well surrender outright.

“Let’s go interrogate him directly.”

Charles decided he would question Connell himself.

General Sost initially intended to refuse, but in the end, he also wanted to see for himself.

While the two of them made their way over, the Serpent soldiers placed Connell in a crude cell.

“Stay here quietly! I’ll go report to the generals.”

The Serpent quickly left, and Connell remained inside with a calm expression.

Before long, the Serpent soldier returned.

“General Sost has decided to question you personally. Come with me.”

The soldier led Connell straight to the interrogation room of Withered Tree Fortress.

On the way there, Connell’s face remained calm.

It wasn’t until he stepped into the room and saw the two men waiting for him that his expression finally changed to one of surprise.

He stared straight at Charles.

“Allow me to introduce myself again,” Charles said with a smile. “My name is Charles, and I am a level-five Beast Master. I came here to offer my aid to the Serpent Empire.”

Throughout his self-introduction, Charles kept smiling as he looked at Connell.

The surprise on Connell’s face gradually faded.

It seemed he had begun to understand everything that had happened before.

“I’m glad to meet you. Thank you for not choosing to kill me back then,” Connell said, his voice lacking full confidence.

Charles replied quickly, “There’s no need to thank me. At the time, we both had our own goals.”

Connell nodded and said nothing more.

General Sost, witnessing this exchange, let his gaze drift back and forth between Connell and Charles.

He could tell the two had known each other before, and that something quite interesting had happened between them.

Charles did not choose to keep them guessing; instead, he explained directly.

“Connell and I have known each other for quite some time. When we first met, I told him I was a spy for the Stellar Empire, and that earned his trust.

After that, we disguised ourselves as Serpent soldiers and infiltrated Withered Tree Fortress. My original plan was to gather more intelligence before making any decisions, but who could have predicted that Aldany would suddenly launch his rebellion?

After that, you should already be very clear about my actions. And if I’m not mistaken, Connell must have escaped during Aldany’s rebellion, correct?”

At the end, Charles turned his gaze toward Connell.

Connell nodded.

General Sost hesitated slightly before slowly asking Connell,

“The Stellar Empire holds a great advantage right now—why would you choose to defect to us?”

“Because I want revenge! I want to avenge my family!” Connell said through gritted teeth.

Seeing this, the smile on Charles’s face grew even brighter.

Connell’s reaction confirmed that his own suspicions had been correct—

the crown prince of the Stellar Empire had never intended to spare Connell’s family from the very beginning.

“I sympathize with what happened to your family,” Charles said, lowering his voice.

“And of course, I fully support your desire for vengeance. But I think you understand—you will not easily gain the Serpents’ trust.”

“I understand that perfectly. Whatever you want me to do, I will do it! As long as I can take revenge on the Stellar Empire, I am willing to do anything!”

Connell’s reply came without the slightest hesitation.

His tone was firm, and neither Charles nor General Sost detected any hint of insincerity.

Charles nodded with a smile.

“I understand. For now, go make your preparations. As for the specific task we’ll have you carry out, we still need to discuss it.”

He signaled for the Serpent soldiers to take Connell away.

Once Connell had left, General Sost rose to his feet and said firmly,

“I still don’t trust him! How do you know the things he just said aren’t lies?

How do you know his firm resolve for revenge isn’t just an act? What if he was deliberately sent here by the Stellar Empire?

I think, at such a critical moment, we should not rashly change our previous plan.”

General Sost was a man who valued stability above all else.

He felt that the current situation was already unfavorable for the Serpent Empire. Since they had already devised a plan to respond, they should not attempt to gain by trickery.

If such a ploy failed, the consequences would be catastrophic and irreversible.

Faced with General Sost’s doubts, Charles also felt that he should exercise greater caution.

“You’re right—I won’t trust him immediately. But I believe he can still be of great use to us.

On our own, we can indeed repel the Stellar Empire’s offensive, but that wouldn’t inflict a truly significant blow upon them.

Only by making full use of Connell can we deal the Stellar Empire a heavy strike.”

After saying this, Charles patiently waited for General Sost’s response.

Though he was confident in his plan, he could understand Sost’s concerns.

If Sost was completely unwilling to support him, he was prepared to abandon the scheme he had devised.

After all, Connell’s sudden defection was merely an unexpected bonus.

Even without this surprise, Charles had already made thorough preparations.

General Sost paced back and forth across the room, frowning.

After a long moment, he suddenly stopped and turned his gaze to Charles.

“I will respect your decision,” Sost said firmly.

“As we agreed before, you will command this battle, and I will only assist you.

Since you already have a plan in mind to make use of Connell, then carry it out. I believe you will succeed.”

Sost’s words greatly pleased Charles.

“Rest assured, I won’t be careless. Before the plan begins, I will make absolutely certain Connell is someone we can trust!” Charles replied quickly.

Under normal circumstances, Charles would have had no way to make such a promise.

But deep within Withered Tree Fortress lay the Gem of Light, and that gave him the confidence to say it.

The Gem of Light could peer directly into a person’s heart.

Charles could use it to examine Connell thoroughly and determine whether he harbored any ulterior motives.

As long as Connell was not intentionally sent to cause trouble, then the plan would be flawless.

After all, the power of hatred was immense.

Under the drive of such overwhelming hatred, Connell would surely devote himself fully to opposing the Stellar Empire—

and in the process, he would not care in the slightest about his own life or death.
