Seeing everyone present staring at him in eager anticipation of an explanation for his earlier interruption, Jacob took a deep breath inside. He exhaled slowly, letting out a long, heavy breath as if mentally bracing himself for the storm he was about to unleash, before finally speaking up.

"I know that in pure terms of wealth, I cannot match you, Elder Caesar," Jacob began, his voice ringing clearly across the room. "But that does not mean I have nothing to counter your offer. We all know that the Enhancement slot holds immense intrinsic value, but its worth still has a practical limit. I did not stop you merely to state the obvious or repeat facts everybody here already knows. What I really wanted to say is... Caesar, concede this slot to me, and I will owe you a major personal favor later on. I promise you, when that time comes, I will assist you in any way possible to the absolute best of my ability."

He fell silent, standing straight as he waited anxiously for a response.

Reclining lazily upon his couch, Caesar narrowed his eyes at Jacob, his fingers casually tapping against his knee. He remained quiet for several agonizing seconds, looking as though he were deeply mulling over the proposition.

To Jacob, those few seconds felt like an eternity. Sweat nearly broke out across his brow as he waited, on edge for Caesar’s reply.

Finally snapping out of his apparent reverie, Caesar looked directly at Jacob and smirked. It was never going to be that simple. He shook his head with a light, amused chuckle.

"First of all, Jacob, I haven’t even forgiven you for the misleading earlier," Caesar said, his eyes glinting with mischief. "As you pointed out, although this slot possesses a lot of utility value, it certainly isn’t worth pushing the price out of reach. To tell you the truth, my initial counter-bid was born out of pure pettiness just to mess with you over that earlier incident. I was planning to make you struggle a bit before eventually giving you a chance. Giving you this slot isn’t impossible... but you have to answer one question for me first: Why do you need this slot so badly? As far as I remember, your eldest child is only around ten years old—far too young to take the Awakening trial. You have to tell me your real motive. Do that, and I will hand the slot over to you completely free of charge. I’ll even cover the price myself."

Upon hearing Caesar’s declaration, the other Elders perked up instantly. Their eyes lit up, gleefully intent on the incoming wave of top-tier gossip. At their elevated level of power, ordinary people usually acted timidly, reverently, and with extreme caution around them, making daily existence suffocatingly dull. Gatherings like this—among old peers who had all entered the Transcendence Rank together and established this group over fifty years ago—were rare moments where they could cast aside decorum, joke, tease, and enjoy unscripted drama.

Smith, though thoroughly confused and feeling a touch of sympathy for Jacob being put on the spot, recognized the lighthearted dynamic of these centuries-old Grand Elders and realized this was simply their customary routine.

Jacob, on the other hand, was in no mood for amusement. He weighed his options with agonizing care: reveal his deeply embarrassing secret motive, or forfeit a completely free enhancement stone slot paid for in full by Caesar. Besides, it was a secret that would inevitably come to light eventually anyway.

Taking a deep, resigned breath, Jacob finally confessed. "I... want to use it for a mistress."

A stunned silence fell over the room. The Elders were left momentarily speechless. Taking a mistress was one thing among powerful figures, and using a slot to turn a mistress into a full-fledged Player was practically normal but not necessarily,so why be so desperate.

Suddenly, Caesar’s eyes widened. As if a bomb had detonated right beside his ear, he practically leaped off his couch, pointing a trembling,a finger at Jacob as he stammered, "Don’t... don’t tell me the mistress you’re talking about is... Miss Jennifer?!"

Hearing that specific name was like a bolt of divine thunder striking the room. The Elders froze in unison, turning toward Jacob as if they were suddenly looking at a complete monster.

Jacob let out a long, weary sigh, gave a stiff nod, and confirmed softly, "Yes."

That single confirmation completely shattered whatever composure remained. Nearly half the Elders almost overturned their side tables as they surged to their feet, staring at Jacob with expressions of sheer, unadulterated horror—yet mixed within that terror was an undeniable, profound look of reverent respect.

"Jacob, are you out of your damn mind?!" Caesar shouted, his face visibly turning pale. "You actually decided to take that demon?! Have you completely lost your mind?!"

As the chorus of disbelieving outbursts echoed through the hall, Caesar caught sight of Smith and Astra standing on the sidelines. The two of them were completely dumbfounded—looking like baffled bystanders staring at a complex piece of technology they couldn’t begin to comprehend.

Caesar turned to Smith and said with grave seriousness, "Smith, I know you might not understand this right now. But to make you feel like a true part of the family, I can sum up her entire existence for you in just two words:white Sadistic."

Smith shuddered as the true weight of the term sank in. In their world, a "white Sadistic" woman possessed breathtaking, intoxicating beauty and a perfectly proportioned figure capable of charming any man alive—but harbored an insatiable, overwhelming urge to inflict physical and psychological agony.

For an ordinary human, a woman’s sadistic tendencies would break them instantly. Even for someone at Jacob’s exalted rank—where his physical body was so densely reinforced that a direct shell from a main battle tank’s armor-piercing cannon wouldn’t leave a single scratch on his skin—being in a relationship with a Player-rank white Sadistic woman meant enduring unimaginable suffering once her cultivated power began to scale.

The dark rumors surrounding Miss Jennifer were legendary and blood-chilling. She had once locked a Master-rank beast inside one of her subterranean dungeons, subjecting the terrifying creature to a full week of relentless, unmitigated torture. The beast’s agonized wails echoed through the catacombs until, unable to endure the unbearable torment any longer, the creature commited suicide. Yet even death offered no escape; she preserved the beast’s corpse and continued torturing its lifeless shell for three more days before finally incinerating it to ash. She routinely ordered Novice to Expert-rank creatures delivered directly to her estate just to serve as daily stress-relievers.

"No, no, it’s not what you all think!" Jacob stammered, waving his hands frantically to defend himself. "She doesn’t have that kind of behavior! She’s... she’s just a misunderstood woman!"

Hearing Jacob’s feeble defense, several Elders almost choked on their own saliva. Misunderstood?! If they were newborn infants who had come into the world yesterday, they might have bought such a pathetic excuse! But these were Grand Elders whose vast intelligence networks spanned every major territory—nothing could be hidden from them.

Caesar walked over, patted Jacob heavily on the shoulder, and let out a lingering sigh. "Don’t worry, my friend. In the name of love, a man can become completely blind to the truth. When love strikes, our IQ drops straight to absolute zero. The only advice I can offer you, brother, is to live well and try your best to survive. We deeply respect your ultimate sacrifice for the family. Many wanted her beauty, but none possessed the suicidal courage. You are a true man."

Caesar bowed formally to Jacob with solemn gravity. "As my congratulations—and my sincere condolences—I will pay for the enhancement Stone slot as promised. And take this." Caesar reached into his inventory, pulled out a radiant, high-tier artifact, and placed it reverently on the table.

One by one, the other Elders stepped forward with solemn, grave respect. Offering their heartfelt condolences, they placed various valuable artifacts, rare medicinal pills, and precious materials onto the table before bowing and backing away in respectful silence.

Smith, completely swept up in the solemn, funeral-like atmosphere, stepped forward as well. "I don’t have much on me right now, Elder Jacob, but I’ll hand over whatever exchange items I receive from Elder Caesar for the enhancement Stone slot."

The entire room fell into a heavy, quiet hush, resembling a congregation praying for a fallen warrior about to march off to a hopeless war. Jacob stood awkwardly at the center of it all, his expression a bizarre mix of embarrassment, helplessness, and resignation. Since they were handing over a mountain of priceless treasures out of sheer pity, he swallowed his pride and accepted them all. "I... I will remember your generosity. Thank you, everyone."

With the dramatic spectacle concluded, the heavy atmosphere dissolved back into lively banter. The auction was officially over, with Jacob unexpectedly securing the second awakening slot through a bizarre twist of fate.

The Grand Elders exchanged brief farewells and slowly departed the place one after another, until only Jacob, Smith, and Astra remained in the living room.

Jacob cleared his throat, an awkward grin lingering on his face as he turned to Smith. "Alright, Smith... don’t take what those old bastards said to heart."

Glancing out the high windows, he noted the dark sky. "It’s already late at night. Let’s head out now so we don’t waste any time. We need to reach our next destination before tomorrow morning."

Smith nodded, and together with Astra, they stepped out into the cool night air.
