Global Awakening: Infinite Gift Pack System
Chapter 389: Savior Kai
Eventually, Wilson found a place away from the others and changed.
He also used one of the buckets from Kai’s Water Gift Packs to wash himself.
The first touch of clean water against his skin made him close his eyes.
He washed slowly, allowing the dirt and dried blood that had accumulated over years to finally disappear.
When he finished, he changed into the new clothes and looked down at himself.
He still looked nothing like the man he had once been...
His arms remained unnaturally long, and his body was covered in scars.
Mechanical components were still embedded in his flesh, and there were mutations he knew would never disappear.
But at least he was clean...
After that, Wilson returned to the others.
Nobody treated him differently.
Farrah was still helping the weaker survivors, while Kai continued opening more Gift Packs whenever the supplies began to run low.
There was no shortage.
Soon, the other rescued people also realized that Kai seemed to be capable of producing unlimited resources!
’How is he doing that? Is he a god of supplies?’
It was very weird... and it was difficult to explain...
Everything they needed to survive was appearing in front of them.
Just like that, Wilson realized that he was no longer waiting for the next experiment... He wasn’t waiting for another machine to approach him...
He wasn’t waiting for pain anymore!
He was simply sitting beside other survivors, eating food and wearing clean clothes beneath the open sky.
Wilson then lowered his head and quietly took another bite of food.
It tasted ordinary.
Yet to him, it was the best meal he had eaten in his entire life.
***
Among the rescued survivors was a young woman named Hanabi.
Unlike most of the others, she remained inside the truck even after everyone else had begun getting out.
Well, she couldn’t...
Hanabi had no legs.
Both of them had been removed during one of the experiments, and for a long time, she had relied on a special mechanical device that allowed her to move around.
It wasn’t a perfect replacement, but at least it allowed her to stand and walk.
However, when the machines transported them to another facility, the device had been taken away.
Hanabi had no idea why...
Perhaps they had wanted to use it for another prisoner... Perhaps it had simply been damaged and discarded.
She never found out.
Since then, she had been forced to crawl whenever she needed to move.
Now that the machines were gone, Hanabi looked down at her missing legs and quietly sighed.
She had no idea where she could find another device.
Even before the apocalypse, advanced prosthetics were expensive... Furthermore, most people like him,
Now, with civilization collapsing and machines controlling most of the advanced technology, finding one was practically impossible.
She lowered her head as perhaps she would simply have to accept it.
At least she was alive.
That was already more than she had expected.
"Hanabi?"
She looked up.
Kai was standing in front of her.
He had noticed that she hadn’t left the truck.
"I heard you lost your legs."
Hanabi nodded. She wasn’t surprised that he knew her name since she was quite well known in the group... After all, she was the only one who had no legs.
"The machines gave me a device before, but they took it away during transportation." She replied.
"...I don’t know where it is now."
There was no anger in her voice... Only resignation.
"I suppose I’ll just have to find another one someday."
Kai stared at her for a moment... Then he opened his inventory.
A strange metallic capsule appeared in his hands.
Hanabi looked at it curiously.
"What is that?"
"A Limb Reconstruction Capsule."
Kai placed it in front of her.
[ Limb Reconstruction Capsule: A highly advanced medical device capable of completely reconstructing a missing limb. Once activated, the capsule stimulates accelerated tissue regeneration, rebuilding bones, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and skin until the missing limb is fully restored.
The reconstructed limb will initially be weak and may cause significant pain as the body adapts to it. The recovery period varies depending on the user’s physique and overall condition. ]
"It can regrow missing limbs."
Hanabi froze as she heard this. She had never heard of such a technology.
She stared at the capsule.
Then she looked at Kai.
"Regrow... my legs?"
"Yes."
For several seconds, Hanabi couldn’t respond.
She had heard of advanced medical technology before the apocalypse, but even then, completely regrowing a missing limb was something she had never personally seen.
After everything the machines had done to her, she had stopped believing that she would ever walk again.
"Are you serious?"
Kai nodded.
"I wouldn’t give it to you if it didn’t work."
Hanabi’s hands began trembling.
She reached out and touched the capsule as if she were afraid it might disappear.
"How much does it cost?"
"Don’t worry about that."
Kai shook his head.
"You need it more than I do. Well, I would be happy if you go work in my shelter from now on..."
Hanabi’s eyes slowly turned red.
She had spent years being treated as a test subject.
Whenever the machines gave her something, it was because they wanted something from her in return.
This was different...
Someone was simply giving her the chance to walk again!
"I..."
Her voice broke.
Hanabi lowered her head and wiped her eyes.
"Thank you."
Kai simply nodded.
"You’ll probably experience some pain and weakness while your body adapts to the new limbs, so don’t push yourself too hard."
Hanabi nodded repeatedly.
"I understand."
She held the capsule tightly against her chest.
For the first time in years, Hanabi allowed herself to imagine something she had long since given up on...
Walking... Standing on her own or feeling the ground beneath her feet.
It was such a simple thing!
Yet to her, it felt like a miracle.
Still, before Kai left, he took out a crystal and asked her to touch...
"You just need to hold this for a few seconds..."
Kai said as he pulled out a Status Crystal...
