Chapter 731: Chapter 508: Mage Nancy’s "Time Travel
This was once a magnificent grand hall.
From the faintly discernible, ornate patterns inlaid with gold and silver on the floor, and the fragmented murals on the walls depicting epic wars, it wasn’t hard to imagine its former splendor.
But now, all of that was gone.
Its splendor had been utterly consumed by the flames of war.
Countless corpses lay scattered across the floor.
These remains were varied.
Some were clad in ornate Magic Robes, clearly the bodies of this Kingdom’s Mages. ℴ
Their skeletons were mostly desiccated, yet they remained frozen in the poses they held just before death, Casting spells in resistance.
Others were Kingdom Knights, clad in Heavy Armor and clutching Broken Swords.
Their Armor was long rusted, some even ripped in half—man and metal alike—by some terrifying Power.
And there were others... corpses that weren’t human.
Raylo saw the remains of a five-meter-tall Giant that looked as if it were made of rock. A massive Light Spear had pinned it to the wall, right through its chest.
He also saw the skeleton of an immense Giant Dragon. Its skull had been sliced clean off by some sharp weapon and had rolled to one side.
The entire hall was the ruin of a massive, brutal battlefield.
Mage Delin closed his eyes. His vast Spiritual Power, like an invisible tide, slowly spread out from him and washed over the entire hall.
He seemed to be sensing something.
After a long moment.
He slowly opened his eyes and stated his conclusion.
"This... is a Catastrophe Level battlefield."
Catastrophe Level!
"You mean... the two sides who fought here... both had Catastrophe Level beings?"
Mage Delin pointed toward the back of the hall, at the massive throne that had been split in two long ago.
"Over there, I can sense the residual auras of at least two completely different Catastrophe Level beings."
"One is filled with a holy and radiant Power—domineering, pure, and carrying the authority to pass judgment on all."
"The other is filled with raging Elemental Power."
"In other words..."
Mage Delin’s voice grew heavy.
Two Catastrophe Level beings had fought a chaotic battle in this very hall!
The mere thought of it sent a chill down Raylo’s spine.
’No wonder the entire palace, and even the whole city, was reduced to rubble.’
"Let’s go take a look."
Mage Delin strode toward the shattered throne.
"A Catastrophe Level battlefield is bound to have something... valuable left behind."
Carefully, the two of them navigated around the corpses and debris on the floor, soon reaching the back of the hall.
This was clearly where the fighting had been fiercest.
A massive crater, over a hundred meters in diameter, had been blasted into the floor. The rock at its edge had been melted by extreme heat and then rapidly cooled, giving it a glazed, glassy appearance.
The massive throne, a symbol of royal authority, had been sliced in half. The cut was as smooth as a mirror, as if severed by a single stroke of some impossibly sharp blade.
The two began to search carefully through the rubble.
Before long, Raylo found something beneath a pile of collapsed stones.
It was a fragment of a Magic Staff.
The staff was made entirely from some unknown white wood and was inscribed with complex Flame Runes. Though it was fractured and its shaft covered in cracks, Raylo could still feel a pure yet raging Fire Element Power emanating from it.
"It’s Yang Flame Wood."
Mage Delin took the staff, recognizing the material with a single glance.
"A Magic Marvel Wood that takes at least a millennium to grow a single stalk. It’s the finest material for crafting a Fire Magic Staff. Anyone who could wield such a staff would have to be, at minimum, a Catastrophe Level Elemental Mage."
This broken staff confirmed Mage Delin’s earlier suspicions.
Just then, Mage Delin’s gaze was drawn to a long-dried pool of Dark Gold blood beside the throne.
He crouched down, extended a finger, and lightly touched the bloodstain.
"This blood reeks of the Power of Faith."
Suddenly, his gaze was caught by a faint glimmer of gold amidst a pile of rubble.
He walked over and brushed aside the debris.
Several tattered golden feathers, seemingly woven from light itself, lay silently in the dust.
The feathers, though clearly a form of energy, seemed to possess a physical substance, emitting a faint, almost imperceptible glow.
Raylo reached out and gently pinched the golden feathers between his fingers.
His expression turned grim as he looked at the golden feathers in his hand, which were emitting a faint halo.
’These feathers of materialized light...’
’He was all too familiar with them!’
’These were unmistakably... the wings of the Light Holy See’s War Weapon, the Angel of Death!’
A long, dead silence descended upon the great hall.
Angel of Death.
’It really was the Angel of Death.’
’A powerful Magic Civilization... wiped out, just like that, by the blades of these winged executioners.’
"Let’s go."
Mage Delin’s voice pulled Raylo from his turbulent thoughts.
At some point, he had moved to stand beside Raylo. His gaze also fell upon the golden feathers, a complex light flickering in his eyes.
"There are no more valuable clues here."
He glanced at the shattered throne and let out a soft sigh.
"A Catastrophe Mage fought an Angel of Death, only to end up with a broken Magic Staff, his body and soul utterly destroyed."
"It seems more than one Angel of Death descended upon this city. Otherwise, the Mage would not have suffered such a crushing defeat, nor would the city have been annihilated."
