Getting Stronger By Marrying And Investing In Abandoned Villainesses
Chapter 79: The Valiant Advance of the Sixth Wall [Bonus - ]
Theo straightened and glanced towards the woman’s direction. Despite the vicious distance that tore the two apart, he could see her silhouette well enough, while the rest of her was obscured by the darkness. One of her arms was still raised, and whatever lay under her boot had stopped moving a while ago.
He turned away from her after he confirmed that she had the situation of the other Legatee under control.
’There are still three more and they can deal a big blow to the soldiers if they’re not dealt with.’
Theo wanted to concern himself with the big fish. But that was sort of difficult to do, when he knew the Towerians would die like meat shields if the other legatees were not taken care of.
As a matter of fact, they were already rendezvousing and pulling away from the building where they had gathered to hunt him down. They went over the rubble without slowing for it, and the dust they kicked up hung behind them in the dark and did not settle.
Theo inhaled and exhaled.
’I feel refreshed. That’s good.’
Then he walked forward, casually holding his unfairly treated round shield and the sword in his hands. Both of his weapons looked like they had been maltreated. The rim of the shield was folded in at two places, and there was a long ugly stretch near the tip of the sword where the edge had simply stopped being an edge.
He did not care though, the shadows rose from his movement and attached to the blade, painting it obsidian as Theo advanced forward.
He scaled the walls after that, leaping on opposite sides to grab the edge of the roof and then he yanked himself up with a little power.
If there was one thing that Theo noticed about himself since he entered the Tower and since he had been fighting, it was how quickly fatigue was alleviated from his body. It wasn’t like it suddenly disappeared though.
He could feel it draining, his stamina was being eaten, even his adaptation seemed to be consuming more stamina than usual. But the endurance of the thing seemed to help a lot.
He could hold out his burning legs a bit more, while still managing to draw a tremendous amount of his increased physical power and speed.
On the roof, a man was walking casually, descending it. And soldiers that clashed with the horde of inheritors glanced at him and felt a vicious heat in their hearts. It caused them to rage in a bestial manner.
And they raised the glinting weapons in their hands and struck down on the Inheritors, yelling the life out of their lungs.
"Get them!"
"Fight for your land!"
"Don’t leave it to a stranger!"
"Take it back! Take back our legacy!"
Theo had no idea what was going on. He merely tilted his head, a bit to the left, wondering what the business about some legacy was. But he soon shrugged.
’Whatever man...’
He finally reached the edge of one roof, and leaped off it. The shadows lifted his feet, and completely silenced the sound of his steps, and by the time he landed, the darkness also received him. The tiles under his boots did not so much as shift.
[Your mastery of Shadow Sword has increased] [Your mastery of Shadow Movement has increased]
Theo did not reckon doing something so much, rather than gently lifting his weight.
’Isn’t it cheating, if everything I’ll be doing counts as a cheat?’
He wanted to feel a bit of pity for his future enemies, but then, remembering how difficult the Tower was, all of that remorse vanished quickly.
He leaped from the next roof and landed onto the next, this time, he increased his pace and bolted across the roof, his steps were louder at first, but by the time he leaped again and landed and bolted, he had gotten the hang of silencing the sound of his steps with the shadows. It was mostly a matter of letting the darkness take the weight a fraction before the foot came down, and then not fighting it on the way up.
And that had immediately bolstered the mastery of Shadow Movement.
[Sub-skill: Shadow Step has been created]
Theo did not mind it. He slid down the next roof, letting himself fall down. Now, he was amidst the left wing of the horde. Far in the front, the soldiers from the sixth wall were probably already colliding with the frontline of the Inheritors.
Even from here, Theo could hear their energetic battlecries.
’Really, they looked like dead souls living in actual bodies just three days ago. What changed?’
While he wondered about that, he raised his shield, the shadows slid over it and turned it to an ominous thing, both the sword and shield in his hands looked like an element of darkness, and Theo’s eyes glinted with a faint golden light.
Every creature in front of him was being analyzed after several hours of being watched. The Genesis Eyes had by now observed their patterns of movement, and their actions. It was even super easy because Theo wasn’t analyzing so many people.
He was analyzing only one thing.
After his eyes had gotten so familiar and fully observed everything, everything else that followed was the conclusion of something that Theo had started three nights ago.
That ominous and out-of-place glow settled in his eyes, looking more ghastly than radiant. And Theo moved.
He moved like a tide of darkness.
The shield and the sword were a weapon of obliteration in his hands. And it was in a way that no weapon had ever been.
As he collided with the first inheritor, Theo slammed the flat of the shield upon its face, and not mincing any bit of his strength.
A thunderous shockwave rang out from the collision and the creature was knocked back, sent flying across the horde for hundreds of kilometers. Immediately the others turned. Whatever had been coming towards him stopped coming, and the whole left wing of the horde swung its attention onto one man with a bent shield.
Theo grinned maliciously.
"What are you gonna do now?"
With the soldiers in the frontline, and a threat like Theo somewhere in the middle, of course, the Inheritance would be confused. Theo wanted to see how far a monster’s intelligence could go.
Faced with such a daunting challenge, how would it approach it?
As the initial Inheritor was sent reeling, Theo had pulled his shield, made a blinding twist and sliced off the head of another. In the same breath, he twisted his sword, raised it and slammed the pommel down on the head of another. The Inheritor went down but Theo’s knee caught it, crashing through its chest and breaking the bones there. Then in the same breath he used the rim of the shield to slam it to the ground, brutally mangling it such that it did not bother standing, as it was incapable of doing so.
Then he shot forward, burying his knee into the other with his sword and shield raised, he felled that one and pushed forward with the shield in front of him, barreling through a number of them. He abruptly stopped and twisted his sword, then hacked down, tearing one across the torso. He pulled back and stabbed through the face of another and threw the entire thing leftwards to crash against the one next to it, and the two of them went down together in a tangle of limbs that did not get up.
His shield worked right next to him, without looking, as though he had in fact seen the attack before, he extended his shield and received an axe, he threw the balance of the axe off with a lazy shrug of the shield, and as he withdrew his sword from the last victim, it split the owner of the axe in half from the middle of his head to somewhere around his torso.
At the same time, two of the Legatee detached from the frontline, reducing the pressure off the frontline and tearing their path towards Theo with wrath.
Somewhere afar, Marrick held a pair of binoculars, seated on a cart with a portable furnace, his mouth wide with a grin, his grey beard and mustache parted as he watched the battle with a questionable excitement.
