Chapter 978: "Burn the heretic"
Chapter 978: “Burn the heretic”
FLASH!!!!!!!!! FLASH!!!!!!!!! FLASH!!!!!!!!! FLASH!!!!!!!!! FLASH!!!!!!!!! FLASH!!!!!!!!!
Lasers and physical bullets were raining down on Gradiel, the capital of the Elara civilization, lighting up the space outside the capital planet as ships tried to deal with the avatars that came out of the VR tower. The strongest attacks were directed at the VR tower, but at the moment, they were failing to do anything due to the shields coming online and activating in their one-way-pass mode, where those inside could leave, but anything outside couldn’t enter.
………………………………
“My soldiers, rage! My soldiers, scream! My soldiers, fight!” an avatar shouted before suffering the same fate as Erwin. But instead of rocks, he was hit by a laser beam the size of his body and was sent crashing into the shield, squashing him as the mana inside his body creating the shield, drained faster and faster. He survived with very little mana by the time it dissipated, forcing him to start absorbing mana through an expanded stargate inside his communication core before powering him back up to maximum. He repeated the shouting and continued charging with the minute gravity drives inside him, this time activating avoidance assist mode as the safest route was highlighted for him to try and escape. But even with it, his survival chances were less than half.
“Bring me that Mosquito,” a bald-headed man shouted as he punched an asteroid in front of him. The moment his fist touched it, a massive fist-shaped shield appeared and pushed towards an approaching ship.
“Burn the heretic. Kill the mutant. Purge the unclean,” a Space Marine shouted as he fired towards a massive ship, looking like David fighting Goliath, but showed no intention of stopping at all.
“To hate the alien is to be pure,” another one from his team shouted as he too fired at another ship before they were bathed with lasers as well.
Those who were smart and wanted to preserve their avatars and not suffer needless waiting for new ones remained behind the VR tower’s shields in order to be able to fire without worrying about receiving attacks. With more than a million of them all sent to this single planet, their firepower, though small individually, was not the same when multiplied by a million. Within a few minutes of random firing, they finally realized that it was better to work together, and they all started targeting a single target at once, which, depending on its armament, would either fall in the first round of firing or the second.
…………………..
“IN THE CURSE OF DIRTY MANA, WHY ARE THEY STILL HERE? BLOW THE TOWER UP AND STOP THEM!” the admiral responsible for the defense of the capital planet shouted. Even thirty seconds after they started appearing, they were still there and even shooting some of the orbital defense installations, while the cause of all of this, the VR TOWER, was still standing strong.
“Their shields are at maximum power, and they are expending a fleet’s worth of mana each second to keep it active just to block our attacks,” his communication officer reported what the ships attacking it had discovered.
“DID I SAY I WANTED TO HEAR AN EXCUSE? I WANT A SOLUTION!” the admiral shouted, dissatisfied with the response, as he knew that his head was on the table at this moment, should he fail to deal with it and it turned from the inconvenience it currently was to a dangerous situation on the planet.
“Due to its proximity, any explosion powerful enough to break through the current shield will also cause damage to the planetary defense installations, satellites, and even the planet itself, so we are limited in the armament that we can actively use against them,” his communications officer explained calmly, despite the admiral’s anger and twitchy mood.
Upon hearing the response from his communication officer, the angry and shouting admiral turned to him and spoke in what sounded like calm rage as he said, “I’m going to ask a very simple question, and if you fail to answer me, I’m going to kill you before I’m court-martialed.” His hand reached for the officer’s shoulder before moving to clasp the back of his neck, pulling his head towards him until his mouth was near his ear when he asked, “Don’t we have the absolute coordinates of the entire capital?”
“Yes, we do,” his communication officer said in a shaking voice as he felt both fear and pain from the admiral pressing the back of his head with his modified strength.
“Then how about fucking opening one inside the shield and dropping a fucking bomb? I’m sure that they don’t have spatial locks when they are actively providing mana to it from Earth in order to keep the shields active,” he said, word for word but in a rushed manner that still conveyed his anger that no one seemed to have come up with this simple idea when the empire was already using unconventional uses of the technologies they had on their hands. “It is a sound idea, right?” he asked as he increased the strength of his hand holding the communication officer’s neck.
“Yes, sir,” the communication officer answered, his shaking intensified as he held back his scream from the pain.
“Go ahead and do it, and I will deal with you once this is over,” he said, releasing his grasp before slapping the back of his head, pushing him aside, and returning his focus to the attack, shaking from the rage he was feeling.
Being an admiral responsible for the security of a capital planet was a very desirable job, as it came with all the honors of being an admiral but none of the risk because they were not going to be dispatched to the front lines, and no one was dumb enough to attack a capital star system, as it meant war to the death. But the empire seemed to have that intention and went directly for the jugular, trying to end it and not follow the conventional way wars are fought.
As a result, they had now turned this position that he had fought, betrayed, killed, bribed, and cheated his way to, and now it seemed like the karma of these crimes was all returning to him at once and fully concentrated.
As he rubbed his sweat, imagining what was going to happen to him once this was over, a rain in a drought appeared as the VR tower was transformed into a vaporized state after they did what he had told them to try, and it worked.
“Oh, mana,” he said to himself before shouting, “NOW DEAL WITH AND CLEAN UP EVERYTHING OF THEIRS THAT REMAINS!” but this time not while angry, but in excitement, having dealt with the situation before it even reached the planet.
But before his words could be spread and turned into action, alarms blared as spatial tears started appearing in all directions with the planet at the center. The million avatars that were taken down now came out of them, giving him goosebumps as he wondered when they had even collected the absolute coordinates of these locations.
But it didn’t matter now, because the entirety of the movable defensive forces had moved to the best position to attack the VR tower, which meant that the rest of the area around the planet was now in its weakest defensive mode. This was now being overwhelmed by the millions of avatars who were now near the planet’s atmosphere, which would spell hell the moment one of them entered the planet.
“KILL THEM! KILL THEM ALL! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? FUCKING FIRE AT THEM!”
