Getting a Technology System in Modern Day

Chapter 971: Pincer

Chapter 971: Pincer

TWIF! TWOF! TWUF! TWAFF! TWIF! TWOF! TWUF! TWAFF!

In the silence of space, thrusters in different areas of an attacking ship activated with millisecond intervals to ensure the ship’s movements were predictable, while also fine-tuning its positioning in preparation for the next action half the imperial interceptor fleets were about to partake in.

The thrusters divided the ship into their respective assigned action groups, with everything taking place while invisible to the enemy due to the large shield curtain in front of them, which was still deflecting the lasers being continuously sent by the Conclave fleet, who wanted to try and drain its energy and see if they could break through it.

Only ten seconds had passed since they started attacking each other, but the number of attacks and the speed at which things were happening would make anyone who experienced it think hours had gone by.

Once all the action groups were divided, totaling eighteen to be exact, they instantly started acting to bring the plan to fruition. With the Conclave fleet as the center of a sphere, the action groups started moving in different partial orbits. After all, space was 3D, so the empire planned on using all of the dimensions to its advantage, effectively starting a multi-directional pincer maneuver.

Since the ships only had metal in them and didn’t have to take into consideration what would happen to humans, as all the humanoid presence was nothing but Avatars controlled from Mars, they pulled the maximum instant acceleration possible, depending on the maximum sustained G-force of the ships. At the same time, the remaining half of the fleet immediately got to work as well. The laser cannons that had now already cooled down and started sending out their second round, which, combined with the laser attacks that were currently being reflected back, nearly blinded all of their sensors.

However, no matter how much they attacked, they knew that not being detected without active stealth was impossible, so the action groups also started attacking, but with much less intensity, since the majority of the energy in the ships was focused on the gravity drives to accelerate them through their pincer maneuver.

………………….

“They are out from behind the shield! Stop attacking the shield and focus on the pincering fleets!” the Conclave fleet commander ordered the instant the pincering groups were registered on their sensors, as their ships were currently in constant motion to try and avoid the laser attacks that were coming at them and the ones that were reflected back.

He was sweating heavily despite the temperature-controlled environment he was in, having not expected this much resistance from the empire. After all, they had studied their first encounter with the empire, poring through the war from start to finish, going frame by frame through the comprehensive data that was an amalgamation from each participant civilization. With each of them being better in a different spectrum of sensors, the combination of all this data made for a very comprehensive file.

And despite taking into consideration the knowledge they had provided the empire, they went ahead and overestimated them, doubling their potential strength. But it seemed even that overestimation was no match for what he was facing at the moment, as the shield itself seemed to have undergone an evolution, having evolved from a basic shield covering each ship individually to a fleet-wide mega-shield capable of reflecting laser attacks as if they were nothing.

Closing his eyes for a second, he made a decision when he opened them, ordering, “Prepare the Shadari torpedoes.”

“Sir, if we use them from the start, they will now be wary of them being used again. At the moment, they believe they are very expensive–which they actually are–and will be used intermittently. But if you use as many as were used in the first war, they will now take them into consideration for every face-off,” his assistant asked, wanting to make sure the commander knew what doing so meant.

“Then do you want to be the one held responsible if our first face-off ends in our loss?” he asked, glaring at his assistant.

Although it was better to hold this weapon back until the best moment, that was not the best move for his prospects. Despite it being a war and his action having the possibility of causing more damage in the following battles, it was a problem they would have to deal with when it came. Plus, the Conclave had other secret weapons they could use later, but at the moment, he needed to consider his position because he wouldn’t be safe if he lost the first face-off with the empire.

“…….” His assistant didn’t argue back as he went ahead with the orders, and within seconds, the Shadari torpedoes were already loaded in their launch tubes.

“Send one for each group attempting a pincer maneuver and fire when ready. Send five of them for those that remain on the other side of the shield,” he ordered with a sneer the moment he saw that they were ready. Instantly, the targeting system isolated each of the eighteen action groups, firing one torpedo for each, and sent five of them directly to the remaining fleet.

Footage from the Shadari missiles was then projected on one side of the information hologram. He intermittently focused on them before returning to check on the evolving situation of the face-off, having yet to inflict any large damage on the empire despite constantly sending attacks.

…………………..

The action groups instantly diverted a portion of their weapons and started targeting the Shadari torpedoes with laser bullets, trying to intercept them. But due to their constant vibration from an active Shadari technology, all the lasers just passed through them as if they were just a projected image.

Despite that, they continued on their pincer maneuver, actively shifting their positioning to try not to be in the same location as the oncoming Shadari missiles, already having data about them since a few were used in the first war.

At the same time, inside the action groups’ ships, breaching pods started being moved into the coilgun accelerators, finally ready for the next move as they were soon to reach their designated locations.

Then, FWOOOOOOM, the coilguns came to life, instantly launching the breaching pods toward the Conclave fleet one by one. The Conclave fleet was now amidst a spreading maneuver, having realized that remaining in the same positions would result in them being pincered.

They instantly started targeting the pods to try and shoot them down, and to their surprise and horror, their attacks passed through the breaching pods as if they were holograms, the effect the Shadari torpedoes had.

A tit for tat had started, and the empire came out showing that it could fight them using their own technologies.
