Chapter 809 - 809: Feng Niu
“Feng Niu…” Xin Yan glanced at the trembling prime minister before looking at the woman in front of her. “So you are Wuhan’s mother.”
It might seem like she was speaking normally, but her words contained a hint of disguised judgment.
“Yeah, This is kind of a family matter.” The black-haired woman tried to act coy, but Xin Yan saw through her treacherous gaze. She disappeared from her spot and reappeared in the air.
Clank!
When she reappeared in the air, her blade was colliding with a monolith arm made from darkness. Shards of shadows flew away in all directions along with a powerful force generated from the impact, sending the crowd flying away towards the boundary of the room.
“I consider Wuhan as a little brother to me.” Xin Yan’s feet danced through the air as she sent waves of multicolored sword intent blades. “So when you say it’s a family matter,. Consider me involved.”
The silver tip of her blade conjured a chilling energy dispersing on the surface of the dark arm. Feng Niu did not look grim upon seeing her defense crumble. No, she looked gleeful.
The smirk on her face widened as she poured out more energy, summoning tendrils of darkness that chipped away at the snow covering the arm. Once the ice disappeared, the arm returned to its original state and swept through the air, aimed at the blue-haired jade beauty.
“You really are something else.” Feng Niu laughed heartily when the figure she struck turned out to be an afterimage. “Had I not been so deeply deprived of my strength for so long, you would not even dare to stand before me.”
While she was laughing on the surface, her mind was calculating the situation all the time. ‘It would take me years to recover my original strength, and if I want to defeat this woman, I will have to get creative—’
Xin Yan’s figure appeared back on the ground. There were no signs of worry or exhaustion on her face.
“Take everyone away.” She instructed Shi Tzu finally snapped out of his daze. Everything happened so fast that he barely even caught sight of the battle.
“Lady Xin Yan, be careful. The former Empress did not become the ruler because she was the most suited leader but because she beheaded anyone who stood in her way, even if they were family.”
“She was the most ruthless and cunning woman of her time, who did not even spare her son from her schemings.”
As the prime minister continued to brief Xin Yan about her past, the smile on Feng Niu’s face faded away. She curled her finger, and a blade rose from the shadow, whistling towards the man.
Xin Yan snorted and took something out of her storage ring. It was a crystal deer antler that shimmered with an otherworldly glow.
Without care, she tossed the thing before Shi Tzu at a speed faster than the incoming attack. The antler flew through the air and froze an inch before it could touch the ground. The object rose to the air as the light gathered at the base of the horns.
An ethereal figure of a magical deer appeared before the prime minister, blocking the attack with its horns.
“A peak Rank 7 Artifact forged from the horns of Majestic Ice Deer.” With her knowledge and experience, Feng Niu instantly recognized the artifact Xin Yan used to block her full-powered attack.
“Who are you?” For the first time, she looked at Xin Yan with utmost focus. She no longer used her playful tricks. “Someone like you must be from one of the hidden families.”
“Who I am is none of your concern.” Xin Yan stored her sword away, realizing that the battle had come to an end. Feng Niu did not have any weapon on her person, and she could not overpower Xin Yan with the mere strength of an early Soul Formation Realm Expert.
“A body cultivator of your level, I have never seen one.” Feng Niu frowned before dismissing the shadows around her as well. Once again she failed to notice Xin Yan’s sealed strength, which only proved how powerful Noah’s seals were proving themselves to be.
“Since you are Wuhan’s mother, I will let you stay here as long as you do not cause trouble.” Xin Yan’s voice was like an ultimatum, which Feng Niu did not show a response to, but Shi Tzu, who had just returned after leading everyone out, really objected to it.
“Lady Xin Yan, please rethink your decision.” He bowed his head to the icy-haired beauty and pleaded to her, “If we do not immediately trap her back in the Hell Containment Room, she will find one way or another to destroy his majesty’s life, and no one in this empire is powerful enough to contend with her.”
“Aren’t you a loyal dog?” Feng Niu sneered at the man but did not attack him again; she was still wary of Xin Yan and did not dare to act on impulse.
“But his words do have merit. Aren’t you worried that I will regain my strength and kill you before claiming what is rightfully mine?” The aura of confidence she exuded showed that she had nothing to fear if she really returned to her peak self.
Shi Tzu gnashed his teeth in anger and frustration, but before the powers of the two ladies, he knew his words held no weight.
“Do you think it is that easy to recover all of your lost power?” Xin Yan scoffed coldly and turned around. “The qi reserves of the castle will be sealed until Wuhan and his team return.”
“Tch.” The former Empress’s face darkened as she realized that Xin Yan was no pushover, but soon she recovered and said. “Let that fool son of mine return. I will show him how wrong he was to betray me all those years ago.”
Xin Yan did not reply and continued walking until she heard her speak again.
“Where is that fool anyway? I know he disappeared from the empire to help some elven princess. A mistake, I say; no Elf is trustworthy.” The venom in her voice made the icy woman freeze.
Xin Yan turned around and stared at her face for a second before replying, “They went to invade the stronghold of The Red Dawn Cult.”
