Chapter 804 - 804: The Gambit
Without looking back, Noah started walking. “If you want to see the people who are responsible for your misery pay, you will come with me.”
Dragging the elven queen through the air under the shocked eyes of everyone else, Noah stopped in the middle of the room where everyone else was gathered.
Pausing, he looked over his shoulder; his eyes, cold and devoid of emotion, matched the queen’s empty gaze as she said,
“Because I will rain hell open on this place, believe it.”
The elves looked at Noah with gaping mouths; they could not believe what they had just heard.
A mere Golden Core Cultivator was threatening to destroy a force that took down their great empire.
Blessing of the world tree or not, they could not help but doubt his words.
But the queen… She was different.
She saw something in his eyes, something the others could not see. She saw the hatred and pain that was so deep that even hers seemed to have paled in comparison.
“Very well…” Without hesitation she agreed, and a warm glow enveloped the room. Under their feet a massive and complex array formation lit up and swallowed every living being in the cell, leaving the cell empty with chilling air echoing across the collapsed cells.
Woosh!
In one of the desolate corners of the castle, where no prying eyes could reach, the escaped prisoners and Noah’s group appeared out of nowhere.
“We have less than an incense stick’s worth of time before someone finds us.” Noah spoke calmly, placing the queen down on the ground while her cheeks flushed in embarrassment upon feeling the gaze of her fellow race members.
Clearing her throat, she tried to act calm and asked, “Where are we going?”
Noah did not seem to have any plans of answering a question as he ignored her and turned to look at Wuhan. “Once we teleport again, follow the plan.”
Wuhan nodded seriously before Noah formed complex seals with his hands, and their figure disappeared once more.
A breath after they had vanished, the air behind them tore open, and the figure of the priestess of the Red Dawn Cult stepped through.
Aelua looked around with an indifferent look in her crimson eyes and uttered, “Slipped again?”
“Let’s see how long you can run from me.” She stepped back into the void, and the space healed itself behind her.
…
Boom!
“They are here!”
“Attack them! Leave none alive!”
“Notify the Generals!” Several yards away from the castle, deep within the woods. Several cultists surrounded Wuhan’s group. Their shouts echoed in the distance as they all moved to kill them without holding back at all.
Several qi avatars took the shape of weapons, beasts, and even natural disasters before they were all launched towards the group.
Wuhan stepped forward and allowed the phoenix spirit to manifest through his body. His hair turned orange with the flare of eternal flames burning at their ends.
His eyes turned crimson, burning with a fire that surged from his body and took the shape of the divine bird that swallowed all attacks and made them vanish, leaving no trace behind.
“They should be coming any time soon.” The captain with the black sword muttered to himself under his breath, his eyes shifting in the darkness as if they were looking for someone.
“You are alone.” A surprised voice sounded from the void, which shattered like a fragile glass when a foot as clear and perfect as pure jade tore through it and stepped into the world of filth.
“Did your friend abandon you so that he could escape with those elves?” Leading a group of elite cultists, Helena stepped through the portal. “I heard he hated elves, so why the sudden love for them?”
Wuhan sneered openly and flared his qi once more, making the phoenix behind him appear more defined and powerful. “You think you can stop us all by yourself.”
His clear disregard of the rest of the forces beside her made Helena narrow her eyes sharply. But she did not act out, and neither did any of the guards who had stopped attacking upon her arrival.
“Ohh~” A bell-like voice reached Wuhan’s ears, making him flinch because the voice came directly from behind the group, and until it spoke, none of them had sensed anything.
Far away, at the coast of the continent where the Elven Empire once thrived, stood a lone figure. His back was turned to the forest behind him, his bare feet submerged in the cold sand below, and his eyes looked straight at the last ray of sun that disappeared behind the sea as if the sun itself had been swallowed by the sea.
“I was told you would be here.” Noah did not have to turn his head to realize that Aelua was standing a couple of steps behind him. “At first I wanted to dismiss Sylvheriel’s words, thinking there was no way you would be dumb enough to use the same route to escape as the one you came from.”
The sound of sand rustling and the air turning reached Noah’s ears. From the corner of his eyes, he could even see twisting shadows of something thick rising from the ground into the air.
In front of the size of the shadow, his figure seemed nothing in comparison.
“But then I thought, what if you thought maybe you thought of that as well, and maybe you wanted me to think that and look elsewhere while you escape?”
At this point, Noah let out a sigh and slowly turned around.
“When you used the space array to escape before my eyes, I had thought you had directly left the continent by now, but you went and freed my captives.” Noah’s eyes finally landed on the things that had formed the huge shadow on the ground. He saw Aelua hovering in the air and several thick wooden barks exposed in the air, growing from the ground.
The wooden branches hovered behind her like a whip ready to smack anyone or anything into a pulp.
“Yet, here you are… all alone. Did you leave others as bait so you could escape yourself?”
