Chapter 274: Who Needs Reasoning to Solve a Case When You Have a Cheat?
Chapter 274 -125: Who Needs Reasoning to Solve a Case When You Have a Cheat?
‘Heavenly Stems, Earthly Branches, the Eight Trigrams… It all sounds so professional.’
Feng Kucha was a little taken aback.
‘Could it be that Zhao Ci actually knows about this stuff?’
‘I’ve never heard anything about this before!’
But then he saw Xue Zhili’s mortified expression and the way Liu Yang was struggling to hold back a laugh beside him.
He got it.
‘The guy is just spouting absolute nonsense.’
Zhao Ci caught sight of Feng Kucha’s dark expression and instantly knew what was up. He waved him over with a grumble. “What took you so long in the latrine? Couldn’t push it out? You’ve got that constipated look on your face. Get over here, Father Ci will teach you a thing or two about yin, yang, and the Eight Trigrams!”
As he spoke, he shot Liu Yang a smirk.
Feng Kucha was baffled, but he knew his place and scurried over.
Zhao Ci rolled up his sleeves, ready to continue his grand lecture.
“Your Highness! Your Highness!”
Xue Zhili quickly cut him off. “Perhaps we should discuss the case first!”
His head was buzzing. He actually knew a little about the fields Zhao Ci was mentioning, but he couldn’t make heads or tails of what the Prince was actually saying.
Zhao Ci was just stringing together all sorts of profound-sounding terms, but none of it made any sense.
It was so cringeworthy he felt like digging a hole with his toes.
Liu Yang also suppressed his laughter. “Yes, yes! Your Highness, let’s discuss the case first!”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
Zhao Ci said, slightly annoyed, “What I was just telling you *was* about the case!”
Xue Zhili: “Huh?”
Liu Yang: “Huh?”
A subtle shift occurred in both of their attitudes.
Xue Zhili’s heart sank. He had hoped Zhao Ci might actually be of some use. After all, he’d heard that the Tenth Prince had been a dark horse in the recent Martial Arts Competition between the houses, emerging as the undisputed champion.
‘So in the end… he’s all brawn and no brains?’
Liu Yang, on the other hand, nearly burst out laughing. At first, he’d wondered how a character like Feng Kucha could possibly become a Mansion Official. Now he got it. ‘Turns out the Householder is cut from the same cloth.’
Feeling disrespected, Zhao Ci resentfully pulled out a copper coin. He pointed to the map of the Hanling Waterway on the table and declared, “My wife’s grandfather is Grand Scholar Kan, the greatest fortune-teller in all of Great Yu! Would I lie to you? Believe it or not, I can divine the Carp Spirit’s hiding place for you right now.”
Xue Zhili: “…”
Liu Yang: “Pfft— I’m sorry, Your Highness! I meant no offense!”
He had been specially trained never to laugh, no matter how hilarious the situation. Unless, of course, he couldn’t hold it in.
But Zhao Ci…
Right now, he was hopping around, looking like a complete clown.
“You don’t believe me, huh?”
Zhao Ci took out a top-grade lucky talisman and stuck it onto the copper coin.
‘It drastically increases the probability of a random event having a positive outcome. I have quite a few of these in my inventory, each one synthesized from a hundred Low Grade Lucky Talismans.’
He looked at Liu Yang, his smile suddenly turning mischievous.
With a flick of his thumb…
…the copper coin shot into the air, spinning.
It then landed with a CLATTER on the Hanling Waterway map.
It tumbled and spun for a moment before finally coming to rest on a specific point along the waterway.
Liu Yang: “!!!”
The smile vanished from his face, replaced by sheer horror.
‘Oh, crap!’
‘I’m the clown now!’
Xue Zhili himself had been unable to watch, but when he saw Liu Yang’s expression, his own eyes widened. He stared at Zhao Ci, completely bewildered.
‘Could it be that he really does understand divination?’
‘Was his seemingly nonsensical string of esoteric terms not a case of him pretending to know things he didn’t, but a sign that he has achieved a state of profound, simple mastery?’
‘And I’m the truly shallow one!’
‘Oh, crap!’
‘I’m the clown.’
The corners of Zhao Ci’s mouth curved up wildly.
‘Holy shit!’
‘Showing off feels so damn good.’
‘Who in their right mind solves cases with logic these days when you have a cheat system?’
He stared at Liu Yang. “Foreman Liu, do you think this spot is correct?”
Liu Yang: “???”
