Chapter 131: Chapter 88: Fairy: Let’s Live Together (Part 2)
"Three!"
"One!"
"Two!"
"Three!"
The white horse didn’t budge an inch. Instead, it let out a few pained whinnies.
Everyone: "..."
The atmosphere grew incredibly awkward.
Kan Luotang quickly explained, "This horse has Great Demon blood in it, so it’s quite a bit heavier than a normal horse."
’Quite a bit’ was an understatement.
Even a horse of the same size would be thirty percent heavier, and this one was even larger.
It was already close to two thousand jin.
The people of the Northern Three Prefectures were already physically frail; how could they possibly lift it?
"Let me."
Zhao Ci smiled, bent slightly, and wrapped his arms around the horse’s torso. With a soft grunt, he lifted it into his arms.
"Gasp..."
Everyone present gasped in unison.
A look of astonishment flashed in Kan Luotang’s eyes. Plenty of people in the world could lift a horse with their bare hands, but the vast majority had already unlocked their Physical Body Divine Treasure. Even then, not all of them could have lifted *this* particular horse.
But Zhao Ci...
She did recall Zhu Li telling her a while back that Zhao Ci was actually quite formidable.
She remembered Zhu Li’s exact words: ’My boss is a beast, insanely strong!’
But she never really had a concept of what "insanely strong" meant. Her impression of Zhao Ci was still stuck on the weak, unimpressive image from before.
And yet, here he was, lifting the white horse with apparent ease.
’Such overwhelming strength... I doubt even someone with a Second-Grade Flesh Soul could manage that, right?’
’Was he really hiding his true abilities all this time?’
’But why?’
"This horse is pretty heavy!"
Zhao Ci could feel the horse’s weight pressing down on him, so he quickly but carefully set it down on a pushcart.
And then...
"CRACK!"
The planks of the pushcart splintered.
Startled, Zhao Ci quickly picked the white horse up again.
Everyone: "..."
Kan Luotang quickly interjected, "Why don’t I just stay in the fields to look after him tonight? Your Highness, you can stay in the village with the others."
"No need!"
Zhao Ci shook his head. ’If I were going to stay alone, I’d just go back to the city. What would be the point of staying in the village?’
With a burst of effort, he heaved the white horse onto his shoulders.
"Let’s go!"
He left them with the sight of his dashing silhouette.
The crowd gasped again.
Kan Luotang was speechless.
Under the moonlight.
A straight, tall figure carrying the even more massive body of the horse.
The scene was utterly surreal.
After a few steps, Zhao Ci turned his head in confusion. "What are you all standing there for? Let’s go!"
The head farmer called out, "Your Highness, you’re going the wrong way!"
Zhao Ci: "..."
He turned around.
That was the right way.
A group of farmers followed behind Zhao Ci, pushing the half-broken cart and whispering among themselves.
After all, they had seen people riding horses many times.
But this was the first time they had ever seen a horse riding a person.
Kan Luotang followed behind on her own horse. She was utterly exhausted, yet her gaze remained fixed on Zhao Ci’s back.
She didn’t know why.
But this time they met, she felt like Zhao Ci was practically glowing.
...
The village was not far.
The night had been quiet, but after the villagers heard that Fairy Luotang had arrived, the whole village came alive.
Some brought food.
Some cooked meals.
Some boiled water for Kan Luotang.
They even nearly got into a fight over where Kan Luotang would stay for the night.
Finally, the village chief stepped in to mediate, firmly convincing everyone that Fairy Luotang would be staying at his home.
By the time everything was settled, it was late at night.
Everyone in the village chief’s family went to stay with neighbors for the night, leaving only their daughter behind to help look after the white horse.
Kan Luotang was taking a bath; the village chief’s wife had prepared a change of clothes for her.
Zhao Ci, meanwhile, was dozing at the dinner table. His muscles and bones ached. He’d gone a bit overboard with his show of strength earlier. While carrying a horse for a ways was certainly possible for a First-Grade Flesh Soul, his frame just couldn’t handle the strain.
If he hadn’t been protecting his body with Imperial Extreme True Qi, the walk would have cost him at least a hundred days of recovery from strained muscles and fractured bones.
Even with his True Qi’s protection, a deep soreness still radiated through his muscles and bones.
On top of a long, busy day, he felt utterly drained.
Just then.
"Your Highness?"
"Hmm?"
Zhao Ci’s eyes snapped open. He looked toward the door, and his eyes instantly lit up.
Kan Luotang stood there, her damp hair draped over her chest, her beautiful eyes seeming to hold a trace of mist.
The light from the village’s oil lamp was dim.
But in its glow, the beauty’s fair skin seemed to shine.
Even dressed in coarse linen, she radiated a fresh, bright, and youthful aura that the simple clothes only served to enhance.
She had shed the look of a pitiful little beggar and was once again the talented lady admired by the young men of Lingge, the Fairy revered by the people of the Northern Three Prefectures.
’This is more like it!’
The corners of Zhao Ci’s mouth lifted slightly. ’Isn’t this feast for the eyes the exact reason I didn’t go back to the city?’
’Feelings aside...’
’...it’s nice to have something beautiful to look at.’
’Honestly, Kan Luotang’s appearance earlier today nearly gave me a phobia of marriage.’
’But to be honest... ’
’...after all this, I’m finally starting to see her appeal.’
’That gentle, independent, yet docile temperament of hers is truly captivating.’
Kan Luotang’s cheeks felt a little hot.
She had felt this kind of gaze many times before, and every time she would feel a sense of resistance.
But this time, strangely, she didn’t feel any.
She composed herself and sat down directly across from Zhao Ci, scooping a bowl of rice for him. "Your Highness, the food here is slightly toxic. But eating it once in a while to fill your stomach won’t harm you. It’s all the villagers could prepare."
"It’s fine!"
Zhao Ci picked up the bowl and started wolfing down the food. He was starving.
Kan Luotang bit her lip. "Thank you!"
Zhao Ci mumbled through a mouthful of food, "Don’t mention it. You already paid for my promise with that list. I’m just fulfilling my end of the bargain. If anything, you’re the one who helped me out, running around to all these villages."
A small smile played on Kan Luotang’s lips. "Your Highness," she asked, her curiosity piqued, "how did you see through their little scheme?"
