“Damn it!”

On a distant ridge, the Elven officer commanding the ranged units felt his face drain of color.

“All units, attention! Change targets! focus on the Frost Trolls!”

The Elves lived up to their reputation as a well-trained, elite force. Not a hint of panic rippled through their ranks. The rangers immediately shifted their aim, and a volley of arrows, each imbued with the faint glow of moonlight, sliced silently through the snowstorm to pin the lead trolls. The mages were just as quick, their incantations changing in a heartbeat as rows of thick Ice Walls erupted from the ground, a desperate attempt to stall the trolls’ devastating charge.

However, these lumbering brutes possessed an innate, almost absolute resistance to ice-based magic.

The Elven rangers’ arrows struck their thick, blubbery hides, drawing little more than a spatter of dark blood. The Frost Trolls casually plucked the shafts from their flesh, the minor wounds writhing and sealing shut within seconds thanks to their formidable regenerative powers.

As for the Ice Walls, the trolls simply smashed them to glittering shards with raw, unadulterated strength.

Su Wan’s expression turned grim. “Their resistance to ice is incredibly high! The slowing effect of my magic is almost negligible!”

She waved her staff, and a wide-range Blizzard descended, engulfing the trolls’ path. Countless blades of ice howled on the wind, slashing viciously at the charging monsters. The few Frost Trolls at the very front let out pained roars as the magic tore wounds deep enough to expose bone, finally slowing their momentum.

But it was a temporary victory. The Frost Troll shaman lurking behind the vanguard raised its gnarled staff, and waves of putrid green healing energy pulsed outward. Under the shroud of that sickly light, the deep gashes on the injured trolls churned and knitted back together at a speed visible to the naked eye. With renewed vigor, they let out even more violent roars and resumed their earth-shaking charge.

“They have a healer! And their natural regeneration is already ridiculous!” Xia Lian’s eyes sharpened, her tactical mind instantly processing the threat. “We have to take out that shaman first!”

On the ridge, several Elven mages had already been cornered by trolls that had broken through the defensive line, forcing them to use Blink in awkward, desperate hops to create distance. The entire front was rapidly descending into chaos.

“We can’t wait any longer!” Selene declared, pushing herself to her feet.

“Sis! I’ll stop the biggest one! You guys figure out a way to handle the others!”

Celeste watched her sister’s determined back, a familiar sense of helplessness washing over her.

‘This silly sister of mine,’she thought with a sigh,’getting reckless again.”But… she’s right. There’s no other way. If we let those Frost Trolls break through, the Elves’ entire ranged contingent will be torn to shreds.’

“Be careful!” Celeste called out, her voice sharp. “We can’t even see that thing’s level! It’s definitely a world boss! Don’t try to tank it, just stall for time!”

“Got it!” Selene roared, launching herself forward like a cannonball. She slid down the snowy hillside, a silver streak charging straight toward the massive Frost Troll leader.

“Xia Lian, go deal with that shaman. It keeps healing them; it’s a total pain in the ass!” Celeste commanded, her mind already shifting into tactical mode.

“Received!” Xia Lian’s figure blurred, melting into the shadows as she slipped down the opposite side of the hill, a ghost creeping silently toward the rear of the troll army.

“Su Wan, we’re with Selene! Provide fire support and crowd control!”

“Understood!”

Celeste cast one last glance down at the heart of the pass, where Eldara was still locked in a fierce duel with Mogras. She knew their captain was caught in a battle of titans and couldn’t be pulled away. This new, third-party variable was their problem to solve.

‘Fine. So much for a clean run. The best-laid plans of mice and men and all that crap.”We were supposed to be in the peanut gallery, just watching the show, but now we’ve been dragged onto the field for overtime.’

Celeste hefted her pink staff and, following close behind Su Wan, chased after her sister.

The real challenge was just beginning.

Selene hit the ground, her heavy plate armor carving two deep furrows in the snow. Without a moment’s hesitation, she charged like a rhinoceros, her target the colossal Frost Troll chieftain.

“Hey! You big, ugly lug! Over here!”

Her battle cry worked. The boss, identified only as [Sradlan, Lv.??? Frost Troll Leader], halted its advance. It turned its massive head, its eyes—each wider than a dinner plate—regarding the tiny speck that dared to challenge it.

The creature seemed genuinely confused, unable to comprehend where this “tin can,” who barely reached its waist, had found the audacity to provoke it.

Sradlan grinned, a horrifying sight of yellow and black fangs. A low, mocking grunt rumbled in its chest. It casually swung its massive stone mace, the weapon shrieking as it tore through the air, aimed directly at Selene’s head. The strike was filled with contempt, the kind of lazy swat one might use on a particularly annoying fly.

Selene, however, didn’t dare underestimate it.

The moment the massive shadow fell over her, she bent her knees, sinking her center of gravity low and planting the heavy shield, Immovable Mountain, firmly before her.

‘Hold on!’

[Holy Shield] activated! A solid, golden phantom of a shield materialized over her own, and her defense stat soared. The sacred contract for [Resilience of the Mountain] triggered instantly, an invisible force enveloping her, making her feel as if she were rooted to the very earth beneath her feet.

“CLANG—!”

The explosive sound of metal on stone tore through the valley, so loud it made one’s eardrums ache. A terrifying, mountain-shattering force rolled over the shield and slammed into Selene’s entire body.

The snow beneath her was instantly vaporized. Her boots carved two deep trenches into the frozen soil as she was sent sliding backward for a good seven or eight meters.

A spray of blood burst from between her gritted teeth. The arms holding the shield went instantly numb, losing all sensation.

‘Such… such insane strength!’ Selene’s mind went blank, that single thought echoing in the ringing silence.

If not for [Resilience of the Mountain] absorbing and redirecting the majority of the impact, and if not for [Holy Shield]’s 20% damage reduction, that single blow would have taken her out of the fight completely.

Sradlan clearly hadn’t expected the little speck to actually survive its attack. A flicker of genuine interest finally appeared in its brutish eyes.

It raised its mace again, preparing to give this tenacious tin can another whack.

Just then, a soft white light descended from the sky, precisely enveloping Selene.

Celeste had arrived.

“Divine Protection!”

A golden shield of pure light formed around Selene, protecting her. Immediately after, another flash of pink light shone.

“Healing Spell!”

The staff in Celeste’s hand pulsed brilliantly as she spammed one Healing Spell after another on her sister, rapidly mending the internal injuries she had sustained.

“Selene! Are you okay?” Celeste asked, her voice tight with anxiety.

“Cough, cough… I’m not dead yet!” Selene coughed up a bit of bloody foam and shook her numb arms, forcing herself back to her feet. “Sis! This guy’s strength is off the charts! I can’t take many more hits like that!”

“Don’t tank it! Kite it! Su Wan!” Celeste shouted.

Without needing to be told, Su Wan had already begun her incantation.

“Ring of Ice!”

An ice-blue ring boomed outward with Sradlan at its center. The piercing cold instantly froze the troll’s feet to the ground. Its movements noticeably stiffened.

“Nice one!” Celeste praised.

“It’s useless!” Su Wan’s expression was even graver. “The ice shattered in seconds! My control duration is too short!”

True enough, Sradlan let out a low roar, its leg muscles flexed, and the thick layer of ice encasing its feet exploded into fragments with a sharp crack. It broke free from the restraint and once again locked its violent gaze on Selene.

“Penance!”

Celeste brandished the Moon Language Sacred Canon. Three golden orbs of light shot out, slamming into Selene and forcibly dragging her health bar back from the red.

Selene gritted her teeth and raised her shield to meet the monster’s charge again.

Defeating it was impossible. Her only mission was to drag this monster down, to keep it stuck right here.

On the other side of the battlefield, Xia Lian had successfully circled to the rear of the Frost Troll army. Moving like an agile civet, she used the snowdrifts and rock outcroppings for cover, silently closing in on the shaman who was preoccupied with chanting.

That shaman was only [Lv.33]. It was clearly a pure support class, its perception abilities lacking. It didn’t sense the danger until Xia Lian was less than thirty meters away, at which point it whipped its head around in alarm.

The first thing it saw was an arrow already nocked and shimmering with starlight.

Whoosh.

The arrow, loosed from the bow Night Star Whisper, made no sound as it crossed the thirty-meter distance in an instant.

The shaman was terrified. In its haste, it threw up a makeshift shield of frost and nature energy. The arrow struck it dead center, exploding into a brilliant cluster of starlight that sent violent shudders through the barrier, covering it in cracks.

The shaman was knocked back two steps by the sheer force of the impact, a look of pure terror on its face. It immediately abandoned healing the main army and began casting restorative spells on itself, its eyes darting around, trying to pinpoint the attacker.

Having achieved her goal, Xia Lian immediately melted back into the shadows, making no attempt to follow up.

Her mission was complete. As long as the shaman couldn’t focus on healing, the recovery of the Frost Troll vanguard would be crippled, allowing the Elven rangers and mages to finish off their opponents that much faster.

The battlefield had been successfully fractured.

Eldara was dueling Mogras.

Celeste, Selene, and Su Wan were teamed up against the Frost Troll leader, Sradlan.

Xia Lian was single-handedly suppressing the Frost Troll shaman.

The Silent Watch Knights were methodically carving up the Withered Legion.

And the main Frost Troll army was locked in a bitter struggle with the Elven ranged units.

The entire Frost-Trail Pass had descended into absolute chaos.

“Hey, big guy! Come and get me!” Selene’s shout pulled Celeste’s thoughts back to their own fight.

Sradlan swung its mace again, smashing it down toward Selene. This time, she’d learned her lesson. Instead of taking it head-on, she side-stepped, narrowly dodging the ponderous but devastating strike. The mace slammed into the ground where she’d been standing, shaking the very earth and blasting out a crater half a meter deep.

Selene’s heart hammered in her chest. If that had connected, her plate armor would have been turned into a pancake.

“Su Wan! Freeze its feet!” Celeste shouted.

“Ice Shard!”

Su Wan pointed her staff, and several sharp spikes of ice erupted from the ground, stabbing at Sradlan’s lower legs. The troll roared in pain and anger, stomping its massive foot down and crushing the shards to powder. While it didn’t do much damage, it successfully bought them a precious second.

“Now! Selene! Hit its knees!”

“You got it!”

Selene seized the opening. She lunged forward, the longsword Light of Dawn in her hand glowing with holy light, and slashed fiercely at Sradlan’s knee joint.

CLANG!

The sword struck home with the jarring sound of metal on metal, leaving nothing more than a shallow white scratch.

“Holy crap! It’s that hard?!” Selene cried out in disbelief.

Sradlan felt the sting and swatted at her with a casual backhand. Selene hurriedly raised her shield to block.

Once again, she was sent flying by the immense force, tumbling several times through the snow before skidding to a halt.

“Selene!” Celeste frantically cast another heal on her.

“Sis, it’s no good!” Selene shouted back, scrambling awkwardly to her feet, her voice laced with frustration. “This guy’s hide is too thick! I can’t damage it at all! My attacks are barely scratching the paint!”

Celeste’s gaze fell on the white mark on Sradlan’s knee, which was already fading as the flesh regenerated. Her brow furrowed, her mind racing.

‘High defense, high attack, high HP, and it even has super-fast healing…”This boss’s stats are just broken! It’s cheap as hell!’

Her eyes drifted to her system inventory, to the shimmering, gold-gilded character card resting there.

Perhaps it was time to let this particular big shot out for some fresh air.
