Chapter 457: Sharaf’s Precious Treasure

"Awwooo..."

"Meowww!"

When Silver walked out, drying his hair with a towel, he immediately frowned.

It was too noisy.

Not only was the usually rowdy Sharaf making a racket, but the other cat that had just woken up had also started howling at the top of its lungs.

It was understandable for Diluc to be wailing, but why was Sharaf—who had merely been watching the show—crying just as miserably?

To explain that, we have to go back a few moments.

Sharaf had watched Bai Luo roast and boil the two little meatballs with great delight.

But when he saw Bai Luo place the now unrecognizable little lumps into a jar filled with medicinal liquid, something suddenly occurred to him.

He really had been neutered.

But Diluc hadn’t.

Which meant...

Those two little meatballs in the jar seemed to be his own.

And to make matters worse, he had personally carried over the alcohol lamp to help Bai Luo "cook" his own balls.

This was far beyond the simple sadness of losing them.

If they had merely been taken out, rinsed off, and put back, perhaps there might still have been some hope.

But now...

Those thoroughly cooked little meatballs...

Was there even any point in putting them back anymore?

"...What... did you do to me..."

After howling for a while, Diluc actually spoke.

Although his voice now sounded like that of a child compared to his human form, he was undeniably speaking human language.

"Hm?"

Instead of looking at Diluc immediately, Bai Luo turned to Silver, who was drying his hair with a towel.

He remembered very clearly that the potion he’d gotten from Cyno wasn’t supposed to have that effect.

"An enhanced version."

With that brief explanation, Silver clarified the situation.

Alchemy was like a great tree, with countless branching disciplines.

Each branch specialized in different fields.

The branch Silver had mastered was Gold’s lineage of alchemy.

Although that lineage excelled at creation and new life, it also had its own understanding of other branches.

Take this animal-transformation potion, for example.

After incorporating his own modifications, the potion not only transformed people into animals, but also granted those animals the ability to speak.

Of course, there were strict requirements.

The subject had to possess at least some understanding of elemental energy.

That was one reason Sharaf had never been able to speak.

However, making him talk wasn’t difficult.

Silver simply needed to perform some modifications on Sharaf’s vocal cords while he was in feline form.

Afterward, Sharaf could choose whether to keep his original voice or even switch to an overly sweet, cutesy voice.

But after hearing about the risks involved, Sharaf adamantly refused the operation.

Silver had been disappointed for quite a while because of that.

Was a ninety-five-percent chance of permanently losing the ability to speak really something to be so afraid of?

"Relax. These aren’t yours. I was just messing with you."

Bai Luo casually placed the jar beside Sharaf, a teasing grin spreading across his face.

As for Sharaf...

He immediately picked up the jar in his mouth, returned to his nest, and tucked it protectively beneath himself, refusing to let anyone touch it.

"..."

What could one say?

Only Bai Luo could come up with a prank this twisted.

"Don’t worry. We’re somewhere completely safe. Once I’m finished here, I’ll take you back to Mondstadt."

As he spoke, Bai Luo tightened the thin wires securing Diluc.

He couldn’t let the little guy run around freely right now.

That would only cause trouble.

Diluc remained silent.

Although he could now speak, producing human speech in his current tiny body was exhausting.

Rather than argue with Bai Luo, he was more concerned about his surroundings.

After taking a quick look around, he had already figured out where they were.

The distinctive rocky cliffs.

The biting cold.

There was only one place in all of Mondstadt that matched those conditions—

Dragonspine.

The Ausbilder had actually brought him to Dragonspine!

He had no idea how long he had been unconscious, what had happened in Mondstadt during that time, or what had become of the person calling themselves the Traveler.

He truly hadn’t expected Bai Luo to ambush him from behind.

"Hey. Can you understand what I’m saying?"

Taking advantage of Bai Luo’s absence, Diluc sent a signal toward the withdrawn Sharaf in the cat bed—a secret code that only cats could understand.

In truth, he was gambling.

He was betting that there was no way Bai Luo would keep an ordinary cat.

If his guess was correct, that black cat sulking in misery had once been human too, just like him.

But Sharaf chose to ignore his call.

In his eyes, if it weren’t for Diluc, his precious treasure would never have suffered such a terrible ordeal.

Damn it. Just remembering that smell made his tears and drool flow uncontrollably.

"Help me get this wire off, and I’ll give you more cat food than you could ever eat."

Diluc frowned slightly. Since Sharaf hadn’t responded, he thought perhaps he had guessed wrong and that this was merely an ordinary cat.

So he sent that message instead.

As Mondstadt’s wealthiest man, arranging such a thing would be effortless for him.

But to Sharaf, Diluc’s words sounded utterly inappropriate.

So because it wasn’t your treasure that got hurt, you don’t feel any pain, huh?

"Grrr—"

Letting out a low growl, Sharaf carefully hid the jar beneath himself before leaping onto the experiment table where Diluc was bound.

After circling Diluc with obvious ill intent, Sharaf extended his claws from his paw pads and lightly flicked the steel wire binding him.

To prevent any mishaps, Bai Luo had tied the wire incredibly tightly, leaving Diluc with no chance of escape.

"What are you trying to do?"

Diluc struggled experimentally once more, but as expected, it ended in failure.

Staring at the ill-intentioned Sharaf, he let out a warning meow.

Even as a cat, Diluc would never cower before the pitch-black Sharaf.

The problem was that he was tied up and unable to fight back.

"Stop struggling. Once you’ve fallen into the hands of this family, there will be no good outcome for you."

Having lost something precious, Sharaf decided to reclaim what he had lost from Diluc.

But before that, he intended to have some fun.

"This family?"

Sharaf’s casual remark made Diluc freeze for a moment. He even forgot how dangerous Sharaf was to him in his current state.

"Yeah. Every single one of them is like a demon. They never touch the places they should, but the places they shouldn’t touch—they stab at with all their might."

As he spoke, Sharaf ground his teeth in frustration once more.

If he had known this would happen, he would have stayed in Sumeru and never run around outside.

Then he wouldn’t have ended up like this.
