Chapter 92: Chapter 91: Inheritance, Six-armed Moon-devouring Demon Ape

After the white-clad teacher finished speaking, he ignored the genius class students. With a blur of motion, he directly left the underground space.

As a teacher at Yu City University, he had also been a genius before taking up his post. He wasn’t the least bit intimidated by these young, unformed fledglings.

"Interesting. He actually pulled it off."

Outside the secret realm, at Yu City University.

Teachers like Liang Jin and Yang Man Ni had watched the entire process through a projection, looking somewhat surprised.

A regular class student who had only fused with a Tier Two gene actually managed to snatch two Weapon Orders from the hands of over a dozen genius class students and successfully escape.

"His courage is indeed impressive." Liang Jin’s eyes were full of appreciation.

"Teacher Yang," he said, turning to Yang Man Ni. "After he comes out, please contact him for me. Ask him if he is willing to walk my path.

"If he is willing to try evolving his gene toward the Six-armed Moon-devouring Demon Ape gene, I will take him in as my disciple."

"Alright!" Yang Man Ni’s eyes lit up as she immediately agreed.

Liang Jin was one of the most senior professors at Yu City University, having fused with the Tier Five Moonlight Level Moon-devouring Demon Ape gene. Being chosen by him was an opportunity countless students dreamed of.

Yang Man Ni thought, "The Six-armed Moon-devouring Demon Ape... That is a Tier Six Blazing Sun Level Gene, an inheritance the school unearthed from the ruins. Even Teacher Liang himself hasn’t reached that step."

If a Genetic Cultivator had a low compatibility with their gene and could not hear its voice, there were other ways to make the gene evolve.

One method was to gamble on luck. This involved randomly developing various genetic abilities. If they could be developed and luckily matched a certain evolutionary route of that gene, it might trigger an evolution.

The other method was to follow an inheritance. This world had some special genetic inheritances. For example, the Six-armed Moon-devouring Demon Ape genetic inheritance allowed Cultivators who had fused with ape-type genes to follow a specific route. By developing matching genetic abilities, they could gradually edge closer to the ultimate form step by step.

Inside the Blood Beast Secret Realm.

Ji Zhixing still didn’t know he had caught the eye of a Fifth-rank Moonlight Level Gene Practitioner teacher from Yu City University.

After fully recovering from his injuries, he and Xiao Mingyue continued swimming forward. But as they swam, a fork in the path appeared ahead of them.

"Which way?" Xiao Mingyue asked as the two surfaced, looking around.

The two tunnels ahead looked virtually identical. The river water flowed from both directions, converging here before flowing back the way they had come.

Ji Zhixing inspected them but felt there was no difference. The tunnel walls were both made of dark red rock, and the water was equally murky. He couldn’t spot any distinctions.

"Let’s just take the left one," he said, pointing to the left tunnel. "If it’s a dead end, we can always come back."

"Alright." Xiao Mingyue nodded without objection.

The two submerged themselves again and continued swimming along the left tunnel. As they advanced, Ji Zhixing noticed the river growing steadily wider and the water feeling increasingly deep. The channel, initially only one or two meters wide, gradually expanded to three or four meters. The riverbed transitioned from gravel to mud and sand, feeling soft and squishy underfoot.

He wondered, "Where are we? Where exactly does this underground river lead?"

He glanced back the way they had come. No light was visible anymore—only endless dark red water.

"I wonder when we’ll be able to get out," Xiao Mingyue whispered. By now, both of them had their heads above the water.

"I don’t know," Ji Zhixing said, shaking his head. "Let’s keep going and see."

Suddenly, as they continued to swim forward, a violent disturbance rippled from behind them, as if something was moving rapidly through the water and churning up large currents.

They looked back, their expressions instantly changing. A massive, ferocious Blood Fish was chasing them from behind.

The Blood Fish was fully three meters long, its entire body covered in dark red Scale Armor. Its mouth was packed with razor-sharp teeth, and its blood-red eyes were locked dead on them. Its speed was incredible; with a single flick of its tail, it could shoot forward several meters.

"Hurry, go!" Xiao Mingyue let out a low shout. Without hesitation, she grabbed Ji Zhixing, abruptly accelerated, and dashed forward.

At the critical moment, her pendant erupted with even greater power. With a sudden flare of silver light, the two shot through the water like arrows released from a bowstring, instantly widening the gap between them and the Blood Fish.

"Why won’t this fish stop chasing us?" Ji Zhixing cast a glance backward and found that the Blood Fish had no intention of giving up; instead, it pursued them even more relentlessly.

"We might have trespassed into its territory," Xiao Mingyue said.

They swam forward desperately until another fork appeared ahead. The two cave openings, one on the left and one on the right, didn’t look very large.

At a time like this, there was naturally no room to hesitate. Pulling Ji Zhixing along, Xiao Mingyue dove directly into the right tunnel. However, the Blood Fish actually followed them right in. Left with no choice, the two could only keep swimming forward.

"Why does this place have so many forks?"

They soon realized that the situation was worse than they had imagined. As they pressed on, the branching paths ahead multiplied.

"This terrain..." Ji Zhixing’s face looked grim.

Being chased by the Blood Fish, they had completely lost track of which junction they had come from.

"Hey, we’re out!"

Suddenly, after swimming a bit further, their eyes lit up. They found themselves emerging into a new, expansive underground space. This subterranean cavern was similar to the one they had initially entered. The ceiling was very high, visually estimated to be at least twenty or thirty meters tall.

Seeing the layout, both of them let out sighs of relief and hurriedly climbed ashore.

Ji Zhixing looked back and immediately noticed that upon seeing them reach the shore, the giant Blood Fish circled twice in the water before sinking into the depths and disappearing.

"We’re finally out," Xiao Mingyue said, sizing up their surroundings. "I wonder if there’s an exit in this place."

Ji Zhixing was wondering the exact same thing.

"The potion’s effect is wearing off." Blinking and feeling her vision blur, Xiao Mingyue immediately took out the bottle of Clear-sight Potion and squeezed a drop into her eyes. She then handed it to Ji Zhixing, who took it and also applied two drops.

"There seems to be a path over there." After he finished applying the potion, Xiao Mingyue suddenly pointed into the distance.

Walking over, they discovered that there was indeed a tunnel. However, it didn’t go up. Instead, it sloped downward at an angle. At a glance, the end was nowhere in sight.

The passage was quite wide, with enough space for three or four people to walk side by side. The rock walls on the lower half of the tunnel were very smooth, looking less like a natural formation and more like they had been polished by something rubbing against them.

"We’re already pretty deep underground, yet there’s still a tunnel going further down? Should we go check it out?" Ji Zhixing asked.

"Since we’re already here, let’s take a break first, then head down to take a look later," Xiao Mingyue replied.

Ji Zhixing nodded.

Afterward, the two each refined a bottle of Source Energy Gene Potion. At the same time, they ate some food and drank some water, replenishing their Source Energy and physical stamina.

Having rested for about half an hour, they felt their condition had mostly recovered. They stood up and walked toward the downward-sloping tunnel. The tunnel was extremely long, taking them deeper and deeper. A damp scent filled the air, and occasionally, drops of water fell from the ceiling above, producing a crisp DRIP DROP sound.

"Be careful. Something feels off about this place," Ji Zhixing warned.

Xiao Mingyue nodded.

The two made their way down for about five or six minutes before finally reaching the bottom of the tunnel. Ahead was a modest space of only a few dozen square meters, but the scene inside made their pupils shrink.

Coiled in the very center of the space was a colossal Blood Snake. It was fully a dozen meters long, its body as thick as a water barrel, and it was entirely covered in dark red Scale Armor. Its head was triangular, and its pair of vertical, deep-red pupils were half-open and half-closed, as if it were dozing.

"Tier Three..."

A chill welled up in Ji Zhixing’s heart. The aura radiating from this Blood Snake was not a bit weaker than the Red-Scaled Blood Beast the genius class students had besieged earlier. In fact, it felt even stronger.

"Don’t move." Xiao Mingyue grabbed Ji Zhixing’s hand. The two held their breath, not daring to move any closer. They stood at the exit of the tunnel, still thirty to forty meters away from the Blood Snake, separated by an open stretch of empty ground.

"Is that..." Suddenly, Ji Zhixing spotted a strange plant not far from the Blood Snake.

It was a Lingzhi, entirely blood-red in color and as large as a round table, growing in a small depression. Its surface shimmered with a faint luster, as if coated in a layer of grease, and emitted a faint, elusive fragrance.

Ji Zhixing’s heart skipped a beat.

Just then, the Willow Tree gene within his genetic aperture trembled slightly, transmitting a sensation of intense craving.

He took a deep breath. "I can absorb this thing!" he thought. "If I want to develop the Willow Tree gene’s Rooting ability into the Root of the Earth ability, I need to refine a natural treasure nurtured deep underground. This underground Blood Ginseng most likely falls into that category. If I can get my hands on it, my Rooting ability might just have a chance to transform into the Root of the Earth!"

He calculated rapidly in his mind but quickly suppressed that craving. That giant Blood Snake obviously wasn’t something to mess with. It was at least a Tier Three Blood Beast, possibly even stronger. With his current strength, he definitely wasn’t a match for a Blood Beast of this caliber.

He gave Xiao Mingyue a gentle tug and silently mouthed the word, "Go."

Xiao Mingyue nodded. The two quietly backed away, their footsteps extremely light, not daring to make the slightest sound. From beginning to end, the Blood Snake remained coiled there, motionless. It didn’t even cast a glance in their direction, seemingly completely unaware of their presence.

Retreating back into the tunnel, they quickened their pace and headed up the path they had come from. Only after walking a great distance did Ji Zhixing finally let out a long breath.

"That Blood Ginseng..." Xiao Mingyue said in a low voice. "You want to take it?"

"I do," Ji Zhixing admitted without hiding it. "My Willow Tree gene needs that kind of thing to evolve. But that Blood Snake is too strong; we’re no match for it."
