Genetic Evolution: Mythic Tier from the Rock Monkey Gene
Chapter 64: Amber Blood Crystal
Chapter 64: Chapter 64: Amber Blood Crystal
Yang Man Ni brought Ji Zhixing back to her office. She took a silver-white student ID card from a drawer and swiped it on a device. Tapping her fingers lightly on the keyboard, she made the final confirmations.
Yang Man Ni handed him the student ID. "You’ve been temporarily assigned to Class 21. Class divisions at Yu City University are only for the convenience of management.
"Your main purpose in coming to the university is to acquire resources and accelerate your cultivation speed."
She paused for a moment before continuing, "For instance, the school controls a Blood Beast Secret Realm, which produces many Blood Crystals.
"Blood Crystals are a special kind of natural treasure. They are effective for developing many body-tempering generic gene abilities, as well as certain special gene abilities.
"For example, your gigantification gene has the potential to be upgraded in quality using Blood Crystals. Even if you can’t use them yourself, you can still exchange them with the school for other resources."
Ji Zhixing’s heart stirred. "Blood Crystals?"
"The opening of the Blood Beast Secret Realm is a perk the school provides for you new students," Yang Man Ni explained. "The reason why the school doesn’t officially start until five days from now is that shortly after the term begins, it will be time for the Blood Beast Secret Realm’s once-a-year opening."
Ji Zhixing was incredibly tempted upon hearing this.
"If I obtain a large number of Blood Crystals, could I accelerate the time it takes to evolve the Staff Soldier Stone Monkey gene into the Ten-foot Stone Monkey gene?" he wondered. His eyes flickered with anticipation. "The Ten-foot Stone Monkey gene is a Tier-3 gene. If I succeed, I’ll be able to enter the elite class right away."
"It seems you’re tempted," Yang Man Ni said, smiling at his expression. "But I have to remind you, although the Blood Beast Secret Realm offers many opportunities, it also holds many dangers. Every year, students get injured inside, or even...
"Therefore, if you want to enter the secret realm, it’s best to form a team in advance. Although your strength is quite good, that’s only relative to other Cultivators who have fused with Tier-2 genes."
"I understand. Thank you for the reminder, Teacher Yang."
Ji Zhixing took a deep breath, suppressing the surge of excitement in his heart. He truly had no grounds for arrogance. Compared to those Cultivators who had fused with Tier-2 genes, he was decent. But at Yu City University, the true geniuses would enter the elite classes, or even the genius classes.
Right now, he was merely the monkey who proclaimed himself king when there were no tigers in the mountains. However, he believed he wouldn’t stay like this forever.
"By the way," Yang Man Ni suddenly looked up at him and asked, "are you going to board here after you enroll, or do you plan to commute every day?"
"I’ll board!" Ji Zhixing nodded without hesitation.
His home in Tingyu Garden was too far from Yu City University, spanning across more than half the base city. Traveling back and forth every day would take up far too much time. Rather than wasting time on the road, it was better to live at the school. The time saved could be used for cultivation, exploring secret realms, or hunting gene beasts.
"Alright, then I’ll take you to the dormitory area." Yang Man Ni stood up and grabbed her coat.
The two exited the office building. The afternoon sun was perfect, casting a warm glow over them.
Along the way, Yang Man Ni acted as a guide. Pointing to a complex of buildings in the distance, and then toward a villa district surrounded by green trees where spacious courtyards could be faintly seen, she explained, "In our school, students in the regular classes live in four-person dormitories. Although the space isn’t large, the basic facilities are complete.
"Elite class students live in double rooms, and everyone has an independent cultivation area.
"As for the genius class students, they all live in that villa district over there, each with their own independent small house. However, if you have the money, the villas in that area can also be rented out. The price is two million gene coins per semester."
Ji Zhixing listened silently. The thought of spending money to rent a place was instantly dismissed. Poor people simply didn’t have that luxury. Besides, how much would it cost to just buy a house outright? Were those villas built out of stacked gene coins or something?
If he had two million gene coins, he would be much better off using them to purchase various resources. With hard work, he could strive to evolve both of his genes to Tier-3, or even Tier-4.
Ji Zhixing thought to himself, withdrawing his gaze from the villa district and locking it onto the ordinary dormitory buildings ahead, his eyes growing even more resolute. "As long as I’m strong enough, I’ll have all these things sooner or later. The most important thing right now is to improve my strength, not to enjoy life.
"Yeah, let’s set a small goal first: strive to enter the elite class as soon as possible."
"Alright, I’ll only accompany you this far. Go take a look at your dormitory yourself," Yang Man Ni said. After arriving at the dormitory area, she helped him get his assigned room, retrieved the keys from the dorm matron, and waved goodbye.
"Thank you, Teacher Yang. Sorry for troubling you today," Ji Zhixing said sincerely.
After bidding farewell to Yang Man Ni, Ji Zhixing turned and walked into the dormitory building. He went upstairs to the second floor, his footsteps echoing in the empty corridor. His assigned room was Dormitory 212.
"Oh, it’s you?"
As soon as he reached the second-floor corridor, he saw the few freshmen he had encountered earlier on the sports field. Their eyes lit up at the sight of him, as if they had spotted some rare novelty.
"That’s him!" the tall boy said to the others beside him. "The guy I was just telling you about—the only student in our school this year to enroll via self-recommendation. His strength is formidable!"
The others revealed curious expressions, their gazes sweeping over Ji Zhixing.
"Hello, my name is Bi Chao. We met on the field just now." The tall boy walked over with a smile. "Which dorm are you in, brother?"
"I’m Ji Zhixing, from Dormitory 212." Ji Zhixing jingled the keys in his hand.
"You’re in 212?" A delicate-looking youth’s eyes immediately lit up. "What a coincidence, I’m in 212 as well. My name is Ren Pingzhi. Come on, I’ll take you to our room."
"Thank you." Ji Zhixing nodded and followed Ren Pingzhi all the way to Dormitory 212.
The dormitory was a standard four-person room with four bunk beds—beds on top, and desks and wardrobes on the bottom. The room was kept very clean. There were already two people inside, and upon hearing the door open, they both turned their heads.
One of them was tall, standing at a full 1.9 meters, with bulging muscles. The other was short and stocky, estimated to be less than 1.7 meters tall, but he had extremely broad shoulders and looked powerfully built.
The two in the room were a bit surprised to see Ren Pingzhi bring Ji Zhixing in.
"Boss, Second Brother, we’ve got a newcomer in our dorm," Ren Pingzhi said with a smile as he walked in. "This is Ji Zhixing, the only self-recommended student in our school this year that Bi Chao was talking about."
He then pointed to the two of them and introduced them to Ji Zhixing. "We rank ourselves by age. This is the eldest in our dorm, Zhao Hai, and this is the second eldest, Feng Yan."
"Hello to you both. I’m Ji Zhixing," Ji Zhixing introduced himself.
"Hello, I’m Zhao Hai. I’ve fused with the Tier-2 Iron Armor Bull gene," the tall boy stood up, his voice deep and resonant.
Feng Yan glared at Ren Pingzhi before looking at Ji Zhixing. "I’m Feng Yan. I’ve fused with the Tier-2 Two-headed Earth Fire Beast gene. Don’t listen to Ren Pingzhi spouting nonsense. Just calling me by my name is fine.
"By the way, what gene did you fuse with? Earlier, we only heard Bi Chao say that you were very strong, but that guy didn’t elaborate on the rest."
Ji Zhixing smiled and said, "The gene I’ve fused with is currently the Staff Soldier Stone Monkey gene."
"Staff Soldier Stone Monkey?" Ren Pingzhi was stunned for a moment. "I’ve never heard of that gene beast."
"It’s the evolved form of the Three-inch Stone Monkey," Ji Zhixing explained.
"The Three-inch Stone Monkey gene?" Feng Yan’s eyes widened. "That kind of trash gene can actually evolve?"
The moment the words left his mouth, he realized his blunder and hurriedly waved his hands. "Sorry, sorry, I didn’t mean it like that..."
"It’s fine." Ji Zhixing shook his head. He had seen this kind of reaction too many times and had long since become immune to it.
Ren Pingzhi quickly smoothed things over, clapping his hands. "Alright, since we’re assigned to the same dorm, we’re all brothers from now on. Let’s all go to the cafeteria to eat together in a bit and get familiar with the environment. It’ll be my treat, to welcome our new roommate!"
"Yeah, we’ll look out for each other in the future," Zhao Hai chimed in.
Ji Zhixing hung out in the dorm for a while and learned that Ren Pingzhi had fused with the Three-leaf Wind Grass gene. One of his abilities was to rapidly manifest three sharp, spinning wind leaves and hurl them out. They were extremely fast and packed quite a punch.
Afterward, the group accompanied him for a stroll around Yu City University and had a meal at the cafeteria. Following dinner, they headed to the school’s sports field to test each other’s strength.
Zhao Hai demonstrated the brute force charge and steel bulwark abilities of the Iron Armor Bull. Feng Yan showed off the explosive power of his Earth Fire. Ren Pingzhi displayed the precision strikes of his wind leaves.
When it was Ji Zhixing’s turn, he didn’t use gigantification. He merely executed a few moves of the Breaking Army Staff Technique, but the army-breaking will contained within his technique still left the others gazing in amazement.
"Zhixing, once the term starts and the Blood Beast Secret Realm opens, are you up for teaming up with us?" The guys’ eyes lit up after seeing Ji Zhixing’s prowess.
Zhao Hai was even more direct with his invitation. "With a pillar of strength like you around, we’ll have a much better chance of successfully exploring the secret realm."
"No problem." Ji Zhixing nodded, not rejecting the offer. He didn’t have any acquaintances at Yu City University, so he wasn’t too picky about his teammates, as long as they weren’t terribly incompetent. And these roommates, at least for now, seemed decent enough.
"That’s great!" Seeing him agree, the others grew excited.
"If Bi Chao finds out about this, he’ll probably die of jealousy!" Ren Pingzhi chuckled.
Talking and laughing, the group left the sports field.
Ji Zhixing looked up at the sky and excused himself. "I can’t stay here much longer. I have to go back home first. I’ll move my things over in a few days."
"Alright, see you later."
"See you."
Ji Zhixing bade farewell to the group and turned to walk toward the school gates, his shadow stretching long under the setting sun. He touched the student ID in his pocket, his heart full of anticipation for the future. As of now, he was officially a student of Yu City University.
"Time to go home. Mom and Dad are probably getting anxious waiting." At that thought, he immediately quickened his pace.
"Ji Zhixing?"
However, just as he was about to leave Yu City University, a faintly familiar voice suddenly called out from behind him.
"Hm?" Ji Zhixing turned his head.
