Chapter 1996: A Waste [Bonus]

Nosphaleen frowned. She knew that this change wasn’t small. Keyesen’s power had shot up significantly.

“This is the advantage of foundation, of family, of generations.” Pedraeg said in a slow voice filled with mirth. “My son is the result of countless centuries of effort. While you will need years to become a true Demi-God, all my son lacked was a single push, and you foolishly went and gave him exactly what he needed.”

What reservations and rage that had been on Pedraeg’s face vanished. It seemed that from the very start, this was all an act.

“You knew.” Nosphaleen said plainly.

“Of course I did. Eliwine was a fool.” He called the Ancestor by his first name as though they had no blood relation at all. “He was obsessed with keeping power for himself. He had no understanding of the fact that real power is built with time and preparation, and only once that real power is grasped can it be passed down to others.

“If he had given the Ancestral Spirit to me like he should have, I could have passed it down to Keyesen and this process wouldn’t have taken nearly as long. Then the old fool wouldn’t have had to die. He only has himself to blame for losing his head.”

“Interesting.” Nosphaleen said.

Pedraeg frowned. There was something off about Nosphaleen’s tone.

Did she not understand what was going on here? Keyesen was no longer something that could be handled so easily.

He was a true Demi-God. Under normal circumstances, he would be highly limited in what he could do on the Mortal Plane, but he had two advantages here.

First there was the temple leaking out portions of partial Demi-God aura, and the second was the fact that he had been born on the Mortal Plane. That meant that there was a lot less resistance to him.

And if he stepped into the C-tier, there wouldn’t be anyone here that could deal with him at all.

But this was hardly the most important point.

Would the Emperors really choose an outsider like Sylas? Or would they put their backing behind a genius that was grown in their own walls?

Maybe if Sylas tried to lean on the fact they were traitors, it would work. But Pedraeg had already made it clear that he was aiming for Eliwine’s death. In fact, if not for Eliwine, things wouldn’t have been nearly so difficult.

Even if they didn’t believe him, they would pretend like they did.

That was the way of the world. Why would they choose an outsider over one of their own? No matter what, blood was thicker than water and they were all of the same Race.

If all the Emperors turned against Sylas, the overwhelming control he had over the formations would weaken and the strength he was displaying now would be cut down several pegs. At that point, dealing with him would be a matter of great ease.

They had already gained the advantage of the changes Sylas had made to their Spirits. They could just take them and grow further into the future without him.

What need did they have for him? It would be easy to move forward from here. Like this, they might actually stand a chance in the Demi-God Realms.

All they would need to do was hole up in the formation Sylas had so kindly forged for them, and prepare. With their added strength, they would gain even more from the Mancy Scape than ever before.

And when the time came to rise to the Demi-God Realm, they would be more ready than ever before.

It was the obvious choice to make. This little girl was simply far too arrogant to see what was right in front of her.

This was the problem with those with a lack of self control. They didn’t understand that patience and learning when to take a step back now so you could take two forward later was a true Virtue.

They always created fun of the Earth Escape Lineage behind their backs. Pedraeg had heard it many times.

But in the end, who had always come out on top? Wasn’t it always them?

Time and time again they had crushed their enemies.

And this time would be no different.

Pedraeg looked down toward his son with pride in his eyes. He had to really thank Sylas for his Rune.

A 100% Mastery Rune. If not for this… he didn’t know if this would be possible either.

But here it was, right in front of him.

Those words of the Ancestors were true. This was the true Scorpion, the strongest of them all, the one that would usher in a new era of The Sanctum.

Whether they wanted it or not.

Pedraeg almost couldn’t hold back his laughter.

He could sense the unsteady gazes of the Emperors, the hesitation. And when he met Maldrith’s gaze, a flicker of a smile passed through his irises.

Maldrith’s gaze soon landed on the 713th Lion Emperor. It was no surprise that the Lion Lineage was the most unsatisfied by the current state of things. Maldrith could feel that something was wrong, and everyone could see that they had been knocked off their previous perch.

Even if Sylas took a step to kill Keyesen now… would they allow it?

Nosphaleen’s frown deepened. She couldn’t help but look toward Sylas. Had she been a bit too willful?

She had just thought that Sylas deserved more. He didn’t care, but she had wanted it for him. But if she ended up just making more trouble for him… Sylas observed over to Nosphaleen. Reaching up, he placed a hand on her head.

“You gave me an unexpected opportunity.” He said softly.

Nosphaleen blinked.

“I wouldn’t have had the patience to wait for this before. But I guess this outcome isn’t too bad either.”

“I…” Nosphaleen didn’t know what to say.

“This is just a lesson.” Sylas said calmly. “When you make a move to crush a bug, there’s no need to bend down to explain to them why. It’s a waste of time.”
