Chapter 1992: Shamelessness
Chapter 1992: Shamelessness
Chapter 1992
“My master won’t say this because he doesn’t care to say this,” Nosphaleen said slowly, her smile fading. “But nearly a year ago now, he had only just joined the 073 Sanctum as one of their own. During that time, he faced some hardships, but as he always does, he made it through them and eventually became an official disciple of the 713th Scorpion Warlord, Gralith.”
The name seemed to make several pupils constrict as though they were recalling something that happened long ago. But after seeing what Sylas had done to a Legend for speaking out of turn, they seemed to realize that there wasn’t going to be a chance here for them to do much responding.
An Ancestor was dead, a Legend was heavily injured, and it felt like an entire Lineage was waiting for death only because the most monstrous E-tier they had ever laid eyes on deemed it fit to allow a girl they had hardly ever heard of to speak.
And somehow, since he was patient enough to listen to her, it didn’t seem like it was their place to question whether they should hear her out or not.
“Upon experiencing a breakthrough, my master was attacked by a sudden assault on his life. A cursed scorpion clawed through his very being. And being the kind master that he is, Gralith put his life on the line, climbing the steps of the temple in order to give my Master a chance to sense the truest essence of a scorpion.
“Thanks to this, my Master was not only able to succeed, but he formed the first 100% Mastery Legendary Scorpion Emperor Gene.”
Nosphaleen looked away from Keyesen and toward the Emperors and Ancestors before her gaze landed on Pedraeg.
“It’s quite shameless, if you ask me. You treated that matter as though you were just making up for a mistake your son had made in the past, a mistake he could have easily rectified had he not been so over-eager. Are you under the impression that your son could have ever reached 100% Mastery of a Rune? Are you aware of anyone in the Mortal Realm capable of such a thing?”
The blood had completely drained from the 713th Scorpion Emperor’s face.
Whenever they referred to the Emperor Gene, they always spoke about it like it was any other Spark Mastery Gene. But it was either they were purposely being obtuse, or their talent was too limited to see the difference. Maybe it might have been a combination of the two.
Keyesen would have certainly succeeded in forming a Spark Mastery Gene before he progressed back then. But 100% Mastery?
That was the realm of creation, a level that only the universe, the system, and things on their level could replicate.
The idea that Keyesen would have been owed such a thing if not for a childish mistake was worse than utterly shameless.
They were sub-human in Nosphaleen’s eyes.
“Before my Master could benefit from the fruits of his own labor, his Gene was snatched from him by a father-son pair. After being formed by the spirit of the temple, they descended and took what wasn’t theirs.”
“I repaid him.” Pedraeg said weakly.
“My Master did not need your repayment. And are you under the impression that we are fools? Do you think we cannot tell when Karma is being balanced? Even if you would be allowed more leeway to act against a disciple subordinated to your power, it wouldn’t be to the extent of killing him, and certainly not taking something granted by the system itself.
“But it seems here that your Scorpion Lineage has been manipulating the system of The Sanctum for a long while
now.
“Not only were you shameless enough to claim your son as an undeserving genius. Not only were you shameless enough to take what wasn’t yours. Not only were you shameless enough to smile in the face of my Master as though you were doing him a favor. Not only were you shameless enough to hide this matter and treat my Master as a criminal to be dealt with and excoriated… “None of this would have even happened had my master not nearly lost his life learning a Rune Armor he had every right to learn about.”
Somehow, Pedraeg paled even further.
Back then, after Sylas comprehended something he shouldn’t have, a Scorpion Tail appeared from nowhere and skewered him through. It was completely unlike any other version of the Scorpion Sylas had seen to that point. It was black and reeked of death and destruction.
If not for Gralith’s action and him eventually grasping it fully, he would have died a horrible death in not just body, but Will as well.
Was that really a coincidence?
Or was that the obvious result of Eliwine taking it upon himself to wipe out every Scorpion Lineage other than his very own?
In fact, was it a coincidence that Keyesen had been born a God Beast with the only variation of several of the same and yet so very different sort of Spirits within him?
Or was that yet another attempt by Eliwine to grasp power by claiming those other Scorpion Lineages for his own descendants and bloodline?
Everything that had happened could be traced right back to the betrayals of the Scorpion Lineage.
Every. Single. Time.
If Sylas hadn’t been attacked like that, Gralith wouldn’t have had to climb the steps. And if Gralith didn’t have to climb the steps, then the spirit of the temple-connected to the manipulated system of The Sanctum-wouldn’t have been alerted and passed on the information.
And then all of this would have never happened.
Pedraeg’s so-called kindness might have been half a portion of him realizing his own level of shamelessness, but another huge portion was him covering his ass. When had the system ever allowed such strong existences to descend and manipulate things even if he would have had far more leeway than usual since he and Sylas shared an organization?
“And yet, even after all of this, you still cannot see the error of your ways.” Nosphaleen’s eyes bore holes into Pedraeg. “Do you think my Master can’t see through your farce? Do you think he didn’t know you lowered your head only to gain yourself a new opportunity to stab him in the back?”
