Chapter 1925: Very Bad
Chapter 1925: Very Bad
Sylas’ steps paused. Of all the answers he thought he might receive, this wasn’t one of them.
He quickly asked about the rest of his body, but it seemed that only his brain was experiencing this change. Why was that?
[Host’s brain is an anomaly. After experiencing trauma, in addition to a forced baptism of the God Realm, it had chosen to evolve for the sake of self-preservation] —
Sylas stood there in the middle of the beautiful Mancer Scape for a long while.
He wasn’t excited.
In fact, this was bad. Very bad.
The brain was one of the most calorie-reliant parts of the body. In fact, if Sylas remembered correctly, according to Earth’s science, the brain was just two percent of the body in terms of bio mass, and yet it took up a fifth of the energy.
If Sylas’ brain suddenly entered the Demi-God Realm, it would need Demi-God level nutrients. Or he would need to somehow eat enough Mortal nutrients to satiate it.
It was a good thing that Earth had started to create the exact sort of food Sylas might need, but he would still need a strong enough digestive system to digest it, and the rest of his body would have to be up to par to keep up with that sort of flood of nutrients as well.
Sylas’ body was a mangled mess right now. Let alone having a strong enough gut to digest what he needed to, it was actively shutting down. Not being able to see was the least of his worries.
“Gogo.” Sylas said.
There was a flash and the Basilisk King appeared, rising into the skies with Sylas on his head.
“Forward.”
Sylas had seen one place while he was scouting things in the sky before. That was going to be his best chance of dealing with the situation right now.
Gogo launched himself through the skies, slithering through without regard. And yet, not a single soul attacked them.
“A Basilisk?” the Hydra finally said after a long while. “You Contracted a Basilisk? How is that possible?”
Sylas was too focused to answer. The question was too rhetorical anyway.
“The Basilisks should be extinct. How-…” the Hydra’s voice trailed off and then Sylas felt a rising anger from it that slowly ebbed away.
Then it fell into silence, saying nothing.
Sylas couldn’t help but frown when he sensed this. Why was it so angry? What had enraged it?
But the Hydra had also made it clear that it had no intention of raising a finger until Sylas could reach E-tier True Rune Creation. It was unfortunate he couldn’t just ask the Madness Key to read someone’s mind.
Sylas pushed it out of his mind. Right now, his main priority was healing his body.
Back in the Emperor Sanctum encampment, disciples moved in and out… well, if the slow traffic could be described that way.
The sheer number of injured and dead were off the charts. The Sanctum had entered this matter expecting to lose at least half their number, and they were well on pace to doing exactly that.
Even those that returned often did so with missing limbs and ashen expressions. This was a space where the creatures flirted with the line of Demi-God; not even those beneath their level were easy to kill.
Only the best of the best of them had any sort of success, but even they were struggling to find the breakthroughs they were expecting.
Their goals were quite clear: find creatures that matched their Path and defeat them.
But this was easier said than done, whether that was the finding part or the defeating part.
Not everyone was like Sylas who could just stroll in and out of the void. Often they returned with heavy injuries and nothing to show for it, not having fought a single battle of real consequence outside of for the sake of survival.
Yet, to the credit of many of them, they kept going.
99% of them were Spirit Beasts. There was no escaping the Demi-God marks placed on their body. They couldn’t just up and leave.
That meant they would be pulled into the Demi-God Realm soon as well, and if they weren’t strong enough, they would die anyway.
It was in this encampment that a commotion rocked them all.
BOOM. BOOM.
“KEYESEN!” A roar peeled across the skies, a young man with the white and gold wings of a dove vanishing and appearing again and again, his body vibrating with such speed he was hard to keep track of despite the fact he seemed to be hovering in the exact same spot.
Laughter met the roar of fury, though.
A familiar arrogant bastard strolled out of his tent, a belt and pants hanging loosely from his hips.
“Why are you mad at me, Deacon? Your sister came back to me of her own volition. She knows a God Beast when she sees one. Would you like to see the cock that makes her so sure?”
Deacon’s eyes were completely blinded by fury, one blood vessel after another popping.
There was a wild shuffling in the tent as fabric slapped and slid against fabric. But whoever was in such a rush wasn’t nearly fast enough.
Deacon shot forward, or rather that was what many had to guess had happened. In action, they couldn’t see at all. He was simply too fast.
Yet, not too fast for Keyesen.
Chi.
The tail of a Scorpion appeared in the skies, glistening with violet and emerald as it pierced downward.
Just when it was about to pierce Deacon’s chest, a playful light lit Keyesen’s eyes. The tail twisted, its blunt edge slamming into Deacon instead.
BOOM.
Deacon was driven into the ground just as the tent flap opened up. A disheveled young girl rushed forward.
“Deacon!” She hurried past Keyesen. “Brother, what are you doing?! I told you not to follow me!”
Deacon coughed up mouthfuls of blood, his body shaking. Every one of his ribs felt completely shattered.
