Chapter 112: Isn’t that a human?

  • Next Chapter

Within the underworld, Ninth Wonder of the World, otherwise known as Shizu, was standing before Elrinira, who lounged sexily on a large throne within a grand palace that she was surprised to find was far more colourful and bright than what she had expected from the underworld.

Large windows ran down either side of the throne room, somehow letting sunlight in, which Shizu found strange since she knew that the sky outside had no sun. Large drapes and wall hangings hung from the roof while Elrinira was flanked by four succubi women, two on either side.

Elrinira smirked in amusement as she looked down upon Ninth Wonder of the World and saw her reaction from examining the throne room, almost as if she knew what she was thinking. “Well then, Kitsune Princess. Yes…” Only to stop as she saw Ninth Wonder of the World’s look of shock.

However, before Shizu could respond, Elrinira rolled her eyes and continued, “Yes, I know you're the princess; I am a goddess after all. But as I was saying, now that you're my apprentice, you will study under me and learn how to better use your mesmer powers, and when I’m not here, these four will be your tutors.”

At this, Elrinira indicated the four succubi women standing beside her who looked down on Shizu with varying looks of interest. “We mesmers might be a magic-oriented class, but we like to do things our own way. We don’t focus on raw destructive power like a sorcerer, nor do we summon the undead or minions of the underworld, because let's face it, we are beautiful, and why would we want to be seen commanding such monstrosities.

So instead of summoning those brutes…” Elrinira continued, only for Shizu to feel someone rest her arm on her shoulder and look at her in amusement before adding. “We summon clones of ourselves.”

And indeed, the individual who was leaning against Shizu was an exact copy of Elrinira, who winked at her before turning into purple butterflies that lingered a moment before vanishing.

“These illusions are not only used to confound and confuse our enemies, but also to attack them,” Elrinira continued. “While each individual clone is not as strong as you are, you are able to create up to three at once and possibly even more once you get stronger.”

As she finished speaking, and as if to prove her point, the throne room was suddenly filled with hundreds, or maybe thousands, of Elriniras who all looked at her in amusement before once again turning into purple butterflies and vanishing.

“Initially, you will only be able to have your clones copy your own actions; however, with practice, you will be able to have them each do a separate thing. One could attack, another could cast a debuff on the enemy, the third could buff your allies.

With practice, you will be able to take down enemies far stronger than you by using your clones and your skills correctly, but when it comes to teaming up with others, such as dear Vincarna, who I know you want to see again…”

Shizu scoffed and rolled her eyes before saying in an accusatory tone, “Like I’m the only one.” This caused the other four succubi to glare at her, while Elrinira merely chuckled at that and said. “I wont deny that; he’s a very interesting human.

But as I was saying, your role in a party will not be to purely do damage like those single-minded sorcerers; your main priority will be to buff your party while de-buffing the enemies…”

Elrinira was about to continue when she suddenly stopped and turned to look in a particular direction with a happy smile before saying, “Speak of the devil and he will return.”

And as she finished speaking, both she and Shizu vanished from the throne room, making the four other succubi women sigh before they started to talk.

“Poor girl, she really has no idea what she’s agreed to.”

“I’m more interested in that human male named Vincarna that they mentioned.”

“Oh please, it’s just another human male; we’ve each been with countless of them, while I can’t even fathom the number the queen has been with.”

“You're not wrong; she’ll grow bored of him soon enough.”

Elsewhere in the underworld, Two of Eight, otherwise known as Kiyomi Spencer, logged into Genesis with excitement. She had wanted to start playing immediately after her initiation; unfortunately, today happened to be the day when her family's business received its big grocery delivery.

While her parents had tried to insist on her leaving it to them so that she could go enjoy Genesis, Kiyomi knew how much of a hassle the job was even with the three of them, and so she ignored their complaints and helped them.

Finally, however, the work was done, and she could log into Genesis, and as she did, she found herself within the underworld just like Tia had said.

Kiyomi knew that normally when a player first started Genesis, they would appear within one of their continent's starter villages, and she had expected something similar here. However, she was surprised to find that she had appeared within what looked to be an underworld city.

The city was medieval, looking like what was expected of Genesis; however, the cloudy, sunless sky and the dark materials the buildings were made of gave it a gloomy feel that Kiyomi didn’t much like.

She stood on a street corner, and as she looked around, she saw individuals or races she had never expected to encounter walking down or flying above the street; there were demons, devils, imps, succubi, hellhounds, phantoms, liches, gorgons, and that was only to name a few.

They were acting much like normal humans, kitsune, or members of the other races did IRL. They window shopped, sat outside what looked like restaurants and taverns and even stopped to speak about the latest gossip and news.

Kiyomi looked around in awe before she realised something and thought, {What the fuck am I supposed to do? If this was the starter village, I should head for the weapons hall to get training in my weapon of choice before getting some quests and heading out to level up, maybe with friends or a party. But I’m all alone and have no idea where I’m supposed to go.}

As she was lost in thought, the denizens of the underworld noticed her presence and began to point and talk about her.

“Isn’t that a human?”

“Idiot, it’s obviously a kitsune; can’t you see the tails?”

“Actually, I think it’s a hybrid of both, a half-kitsune or half-human.”

“Whatever, what I mean is, why is she here? She doesn’t look dead.”

“Right, those who have died are supposed to go face the judgment of the three judges to determine their fate, but why is she here in Naltagrud?”

Kiyomi heard their discussion and turned, concerned that they might attack her; she wasn’t sure if she was protected in underworld cities like those in normal ones. {Shit, I need to find someplace to hide and think about what to do.}

However, just as she turned to flee, two women appeared out of nowhere, and while one of them, who looked like some kind of demon, looked at her with excitement, the other wore a confused expression as she glanced around.

Kiyomi inspected the pair; however, strangely, it wasn’t the demon that seemed to frighten her the most, but the other woman who had appeared beside her. {An honoured nine tails? No! Why did one of them have to appear here?}

The demon-looking woman was naturally Elrinira, and as she stared at the unexpected woman before her, her smile turned into disappointment before she suddenly noticed that the kitsune she had mistaken for Vincarna seemed to be more wary of the kitsune princess than of her.

{How interesting. Why is it that those connected with Vincarna always bring me such surprises} Elrinira thought before playing dumb and asking. “You're not Vincarna; where is he?”

“Who… who?” Kiyomi replied as her eyes switched back to Elrinira just as Shizu hopefully asked. “Vincarna’s here where?”

“That’s what I want to know,” Elrinira replied. Just as the surrounding bystanders who had been studying Kiyomi recognised Elrinira and reacted.

“Queen Elrinira? What’s she doing here?”

“Why would the succubus queen deign to visit Naltagrud?”

“Why is there another kitsune accompanying her? Are we being invaded by kitsune?”

“I wouldn’t mind them invading my bedroom; their tails are the ultimate pillows with how soft they are.”

Elrinia ignored the comments and continued to stare at the new kitsune before asking, “Why do you carry Vincarna’s Sheolarbiter badge? And better yet, how did you get here?”

“His Sheolarbiter badge?” Shizu repeated in surprise before staring at Kiyomi properly for the first time, and as she did, her eyes widened in surprise as she said. “Eight tails! Which noble house are you from?”
