Genesis & Oblivion: The Celestial Evolution System
Chapter 133 – The Final Match
Chapter 133: Chapter 133 – The Final Match
The final match of the academy tournament began beneath a clear morning sky.
Students filled every available seat around the central arena, while instructors stood along the outer platforms to monitor the battle. The excitement was noticeably greater than during the earlier rounds. Two teams remained, and everyone wanted to know which group would claim the tournament’s highest position.
Marcus stood at the edge of the arena, rolling his shoulders.
"Today’s the day."
Ryan adjusted his gloves.
"You’ve said that three times already."
"Because today is the day."
Elena sighed.
"Just try not to get knocked out in the first minute."
Marcus looked offended.
"Have I ever done that?"
"Do you want the honest answer?"
"No."
Caelan smiled.
Lyanna quietly checked her weapon.
Sophia finished adjusting the formation crystals attached to her belt.
Seraphina looked across the arena toward their opponents.
"They’re waiting."
Azrael followed her gaze.
Their opponents were five senior students, each with considerable experience. Unlike the teams they had faced previously, this group wasn’t discussing strategy or trying to intimidate them.
They were simply watching.
Waiting.
Azrael understood why.
"They’re trying to understand us before the battle begins."
Seraphina nodded.
"Then we’ll do the same."
Marcus looked between them.
"Can we stop analyzing each other and fight?"
Azrael glanced at him.
"You’ll get your chance."
The instructor stepped into the center of the arena.
"This is the final match of the academy tournament. Victory will be determined by surrender, incapacitation, or a team’s inability to continue."
His gaze moved across both sides.
"Remember that this is a training competition. Serious injury will result in immediate intervention."
The defensive formations surrounding the arena activated.
A transparent barrier formed around the platform.
The instructor raised one hand.
"Begin."
The battle exploded into motion.
The opposing team moved first.
Their swordsman and spear wielder advanced together while their mage remained behind them.
Marcus charged to meet them.
"Finally!"
His spear collided with the swordsman’s weapon.
Caelan intercepted the second fighter before he could reach Marcus.
At the same time, Elena launched a bolt of lightning toward the enemy mage.
The mage raised a barrier.
The lightning struck it and dispersed.
Sophia immediately activated her formation.
"Movement enhancement!"
A subtle wave of energy passed through the group.
Lyanna moved.
She disappeared from her original position and appeared behind the enemy support cultivator.
Her blade stopped just before his shoulder.
He barely managed to block.
"Fast."
Lyanna smiled.
"You noticed."
The support cultivator pushed her away.
He wasn’t weak.
In fact, he was deliberately allowing Lyanna to attack him.
She realized it a moment too late.
"Seraphina!"
The enemy mage’s spell changed direction.
Instead of attacking Elena, it targeted Lyanna.
Seraphina stepped forward.
"Genesis Bloom."
Golden vines erupted from the ground and intercepted the spell.
The explosion shook the arena.
Lyanna rolled backward and regained her footing.
"Thanks."
Seraphina nodded.
"Stay close."
Their opponents had already begun adapting.
They weren’t trying to overpower the team.
They were forcing them to react.
Azrael watched from the center.
Something felt familiar.
Their formation wasn’t as fluid as the previous team’s, but it had another advantage.
They were creating situations where one member’s movement forced another member to respond.
A chain of reactions.
Azrael tightened his grip on Astraeus.
"Seraphina."
She looked toward him.
"Yes?"
"Don’t follow their rhythm."
Her eyes sharpened.
"I understand."
She immediately changed her approach.
Instead of reacting to every attack, Seraphina began altering the battlefield itself.
Golden flowers spread across the platform.
The terrain changed.
The opponents’ movements slowed slightly as roots and vines appeared beneath their feet.
The enemy swordsman broke through the growth.
Marcus attacked him immediately.
The spear struck his sword.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
Marcus changed his rhythm.
The swordsman tried to adapt.
Marcus smiled.
"You aren’t the only one who can change."
His fourth strike came from a completely different angle.
The opponent barely blocked.
Caelan joined him.
Together, the two forced the swordsman backward.
On the other side of the arena, Elena and Sophia were struggling.
The enemy mage had discovered that Elena’s lightning required a brief moment of concentration before reaching full power.
Every time she began gathering energy, the opposing support cultivator disrupted her.
Sophia attempted to shield her.
The enemy fighter broke through the formation.
"Elena!"
Seraphina looked over.
She wanted to help.
But another opponent was already approaching.
For a moment, the team was divided.
Azrael saw it.
This was the moment their opponents had been waiting for.
He moved.
Astraeus cut through the space between the two groups.
The blade struck the platform.
The impact forced the approaching fighter to stop.
Azrael stood between the teams.
"Everyone, switch."
Seraphina immediately understood.
"Elena, take the center. Sophia, move with Lyanna."
Elena didn’t question the order.
She released her gathered lightning directly into the ground.
The electricity spread across the platform.
The enemy fighter jumped.
That gave Lyanna the opening she needed.
She struck.
Sophia reinforced her movement.
The support cultivator was forced backward.
At the same time, Seraphina moved toward Elena.
"Now."
Elena nodded.
She raised both hands.
Lightning gathered above the arena.
The enemy mage looked upward.
"That’s too much!"
Elena smiled.
"Exactly."
She released the attack.
A massive bolt crashed down.
The defensive barrier surrounding the arena flashed brightly as the instructors reinforced it.
The enemy mage managed to block most of the attack.
But the barrier shattered.
She stumbled backward.
Sophia’s formation immediately surrounded her.
"You’re out."
The instructor raised his hand.
"One opponent eliminated."
The crowd erupted.
The remaining four opponents regrouped.
Their leader looked at Azrael.
"You’ve been directing them."
Azrael said nothing.
"You’ve barely attacked."
"I didn’t need to."
The senior student smiled.
"Then I’ll make you."
He charged.
His sword carried enough force to shake the platform.
Azrael blocked.
The impact traveled through Astraeus and into his arm.
Strong.
The opponent attacked again.
Azrael stepped aside.
Another strike.
He parried.
Another.
He redirected.
The swordsman wasn’t making the same mistake as Darius.
His movements were unpredictable.
His rhythm constantly changed.
Azrael didn’t attempt to predict him.
Instead, he listened.
The sword had resonance.
The opponent had resonance.
The platform had resonance.
Everything was moving.
For a moment, Azrael stopped thinking about victory.
He simply followed the rhythm.
The swordsman’s blade descended.
Azrael shifted.
Their weapons crossed.
The opponent changed direction.
Azrael changed with him.
Their movements became almost synchronized.
The crowd slowly became quieter.
The swordsman realized what was happening.
"You’re not reading my attacks."
"No."
Azrael’s blade turned.
"I’m listening."
The swordsman swung.
Azrael stepped inside the attack.
Astraeus touched his chest.
The swordsman froze.
Azrael had won the exchange.
But he didn’t strike.
Instead, he stepped away.
"You’ve lost your balance."
The swordsman looked down.
One of his feet had crossed the boundary line.
The instructor raised his hand.
"Out."
The senior student stared at Azrael for a moment before laughing.
"I understand now."
He stepped off the platform.
Only three opponents remained.
But they had changed their strategy.
Instead of trying to defeat Azrael directly, they attacked everyone else.
Marcus blocked one opponent.
Caelan fought another.
Seraphina and Lyanna faced the third.
The battlefield became chaotic again.
Seraphina was forced backward.
The enemy fighter’s weapon struck her barrier repeatedly.
Golden light cracked around her.
"Seraphina!"
Azrael started toward her.
She shook her head.
"Don’t."
Azrael stopped.
She looked directly at her opponent.
"You keep attacking my barrier."
The fighter grinned.
"Because it works."
Seraphina lowered her staff.
The barrier disappeared.
The opponent’s next attack passed through empty space.
Seraphina stepped aside.
Golden vines wrapped around his legs.
His expression changed.
"You—"
Seraphina touched the ground.
"Genesis isn’t only about protecting myself."
The vines tightened.
"I can change the battlefield too."
She pulled.
The fighter lost his balance.
Lyanna appeared beside him and tapped his shoulder with her blade.
"Out."
The instructor confirmed the elimination.
Two remained.
Marcus and Caelan had been fighting together since the beginning.
But exhaustion was finally catching up to them.
The remaining swordsman struck Marcus across the shoulder.
Marcus stumbled.
Caelan immediately intercepted the next attack.
"Marcus!"
"I’m fine."
"You don’t look fine."
"I’m fine enough."
Caelan laughed.
"That’s a terrible measurement."
The two fought back together.
Marcus attacked high.
Caelan attacked low.
Their opponent blocked both.
Then Marcus deliberately opened his guard.
Caelan understood immediately.
He struck.
The opponent dodged.
Marcus’s spear swept around.
The opponent jumped.
Caelan’s weapon was already waiting.
The strike knocked him outside the boundary.
The instructor raised his hand.
"Out."
Only one opponent remained.
The enemy team’s final fighter stood alone.
Across from him were Azrael, Seraphina, Marcus, Caelan, Elena, Sophia, and Lyanna.
The student lowered his weapon.
Then he laughed.
"I suppose I know how this ends."
The instructor looked toward him.
"Do you concede?"
The student looked at his teammates outside the arena.
Then back at the opposing team.
"Yes."
The arena erupted.
"Winner of the academy tournament..."
The instructor paused.
"Team Ashbourne!"
The crowd exploded into cheers.
Marcus immediately threw his spear into the air.
"We won!"
Ryan, who had been watching from outside the arena, shouted back.
"You weren’t supposed to throw your weapon!"
Marcus caught it again.
"I caught it!"
"You almost didn’t!"
Seraphina laughed.
Even Azrael couldn’t hide his smile.
The award ceremony took place later that afternoon.
The academy presented the winning team with cultivation resources, training privileges, and access to several advanced training facilities normally reserved for senior students.
Marcus looked at the rewards.
"This is actually worth it."
Ryan shook his head.
"You only wanted the tournament for the fighting."
"I’ve grown as a person."
Elena laughed.
"No, you haven’t."
The instructors also announced that the winning team would receive priority consideration for future academy field missions.
Azrael’s expression changed slightly.
That was more useful than the rewards.
Seraphina noticed.
"You heard that."
"Yes."
"You’re thinking about missions."
"Eventually."
Marcus looked between them.
"Please tell me we’re not going straight from a tournament into another expedition."
Azrael looked at him.
"No."
Marcus relaxed.
"Good."
Seraphina smiled.
"We’ve earned some time."
Azrael nodded.
"Agreed."
For once, nobody wanted to rush toward the next mystery.
They had fought together.
They had learned together.
And they had won together.
That was enough for one day.
As evening settled over the academy, the tournament crowds slowly disappeared.
The training grounds returned to their usual quiet.
Azrael stood beside the outer wall with Astraeus at his side.
Seraphina approached him.
"You were different during the final."
Azrael looked at her.
"How?"
"You weren’t trying to win."
"I was."
"Not at first."
She smiled.
"You were listening."
Azrael looked toward the fading sunlight.
"The old master was right."
"About resonance?"
"About understanding."
Seraphina stood beside him.
"We’re still learning."
"We are."
She looked toward the academy.
"Maybe that’s what matters."
Azrael nodded.
For a few quiet moments, neither spoke.
Then Seraphina suddenly looked toward the distant horizon.
Her expression changed.
"Azrael."
He turned.
"What?"
"I felt something."
He immediately became attentive.
"Where?"
She closed her eyes.
Not searching with sight.
Not reaching with force.
Simply listening.
A faint golden shimmer appeared around her fingers.
"There."
Azrael followed the direction she indicated.
Far beyond the academy.
Far beyond the northern mountains.
The same distant resonance he had felt before passed through the world.
But this time...
There was another rhythm within it.
Something neither of them had sensed before.
Seraphina opened her eyes.
"It doesn’t feel hostile."
Azrael listened carefully.
"No."
"What does it feel like?"
He remained silent for several seconds.
Then he answered.
"Like something is calling."
Seraphina looked toward the horizon.
"Do you think we should investigate?"
Azrael considered the question.
The old master had taught him not to chase every disturbance simply because it existed.
But this was different.
Seraphina had felt it too.
And for the first time, the resonance seemed to respond to both of them.
"We’ll tell Orion."
Seraphina nodded.
"Together?"
"Together."
They turned back toward the academy.
Neither rushed.
The distant resonance faded once more.
But this time, neither of them mistook it for another mystery to chase blindly.
It was something they would face when they were ready.
