Gene Fusion System: Crime Hunter
Chapter 1338 - 663: Vows of Certainty? Psychological Game
The middle-aged man sounded utterly confident.
But Luo Fei kept feeling he might be lying.
So he gave him a reminder.
"Sir, if this wasn’t you, that would be for the best."
He watched as Luo Fei gazed at him faintly.
His tone was slow and deliberate, word by word.
The man, however, fell silent for a moment, then drew a deep breath.
"Officer, I admit I’ve had some impulsive thoughts, but they were just thoughts. And I believe that kid will crash and burn sooner or later anyway."
When he said this, the man’s expression was dead serious.
Luo Fei couldn’t help being surprised.
"I didn’t expect you to actually think that way."
What Luo Fei said made the other man neither confirm nor deny.
"Yeah, never mind anything else—just from the last time I met him, I could clearly feel something off about that boy. He feels like he’s too precocious, his whole person gives off a kind of aura that doesn’t match his age."
The man’s explanation made Luo Fei suddenly see it.
After all, on this point, what he said was pretty much the same as Liu Jishu’s.
"Besides, if I really wanted to do something, I’d wait till I’d sent my daughter away before making a move. Otherwise she’s still at that school. Even if I didn’t care about myself, I’d never let my daughter be placed in danger, or risk her facing retaliation."
As the man said this—
Luo Fei just shook his head with a faint smile.
"Sir, I didn’t expect you to be this down-to-earth."
"I’m only being realistic. And anyway, with someone like Luo Jiaming, even if I don’t step in, someone else will take care of him."
Listening to his reasoning, it did sound quite reasonable.
Standing off to the side, Li Yu was feeling rather troubled too.
"Mr. Luo, looking at it this way, maybe we really did make a mistake?"
"Maybe. But sir, I still hope you’ll come down to the station to make a statement and provide your alibi. That’ll make it easier for us to conduct follow-up investigations."
While they were talking—
Luo Fei had already received the autopsy report that Deng Wen sent.
"We’ve basically confirmed the deceased is Luo Meili. And based on the surveillance footage and the data read from her dashcam, she left Liu Jishu’s place and drove straight toward Major Crimes."
And once that news came in—
On the other end of the phone, Luo Meihong asked seriously,
"What about the cause of the crash?"
Hearing a note of hesitation in Luo Meihong’s voice,
Luo Fei gave a noncommittal reply.
"Ms. Luo, according to the scene investigation, the rollover was caused by brake failure. And that car was originally yours and your husband’s. It hadn’t been serviced for quite some time. On top of that, Luo Meili’s mind was completely on her son, so that’s how the accident happened."
But his explanation made Luo Meihong immediately knit her brows.
"Mr. Luo, if you put it that way, then this accident was entirely the result of multiple coincidences, and not what we suspected—a man-made crash?"
"Based on the preliminary assessment, that’s right."
Luo Fei’s firm answer left Luo Meihong somewhat taken aback.
Though she was unwilling to accept it—
It was still the police’s conclusion.
So she had no choice but to draw a deep breath.
"I understand, Mr. Luo. So in that case, it really might be that we misunderstood..."
Hearing her response, Luo Fei again stayed noncommittal.
"Yes, Ms. Luo. But compared to that, I’m actually more concerned about your son’s situation right now."
What Luo Fei said made Luo Meihong’s whole body jolt.
"Officer, what do you mean by that?"
"Isn’t it obvious?"
As he spoke, Luo Fei laid out his investigative findings for Luo Meihong.
And when she learned that her nephew hadn’t done what she’d told him to do—
Luo Meihong was utterly astonished.
"That kid Luo Jiaming, I’d already warned him not to run around everywhere."
"But he still wouldn’t listen!"
Seeing how frustrated Luo Meihong was,
She clearly hadn’t expected things to turn out like this.
Luo Fei, however, asked coldly,
"Ms. Luo, in a situation like this, shouldn’t you have a pretty clear idea why?"
His question left her rather taken aback.
"Officer, what are you implying? Are you blaming me, thinking I deliberately helped Luo Jiaming hide so nobody could find him?"
Seeing how surprised she was,
Luo Fei hurried to explain.
"No, not at all. I absolutely don’t mean that. I just think that it’s very possible Luo Jiaming chose to hide on purpose."
"Or else he might have done something extremely out of line that we simply don’t know about yet."
Then Luo Fei told Luo Meihong part of what he’d uncovered.
And once she learned that several of Luo Jiaming’s classmates had gone missing—
Luo Meihong immediately denied it.
"Mr. Luo, I really don’t think this is as simple as it looks. I even suspect someone deliberately impersonated my nephew—did something unspeakably vile, and then figured out a way to frame him for it."
On this point, Luo Meihong was absolutely certain.
Her nephew might be bad, but he wasn’t that stupid.
Besides, if he appeared at the same place together with several different people at once, that would definitely attract attention.
And his classmates were all fairly sharp girls.
No matter how foolish they might be,
There’s no way they’d all be duped at the same time.
But watching Luo Meihong speak so adamantly,
It was obvious she trusted her instincts completely.
No matter how bad her nephew was, she was sure he couldn’t have done something like that.
Standing off to the side, Lan Mengzhou couldn’t help but frown.
