Chapter 278: Overgearing Emily [2]
Chapter 278: Overgearing Emily [2]
Emily’s eyes widened, but when he pressed it against her lips, she drank without protest.
She didn’t even argue when he followed it with an Agility +100 potion.
She lowered the empty vial, staring at him silently now. Her lips pressed into a thin line.
Isaac grinned. “Good girl.”
“There is more though?” she asked, half afraid that were was.
He nodded and brought out a Mana +100 potion.
“…I knew it.” She closed her eyes, then drank it in one go, slamming the vial down after.
By the end of it all, Emily shook her head firmly, her hands raised in surrender.
“I… I can’t drink more. Please. No.”
Isaac chuckled, finally relenting. He brushed her hair back from her face. “Alright. That’s enough for now.”
System, show her stats.
The screen appeared again.
Strength: 111 → 511
Agility: 210 → 610
Constitution: 145 → 445
Spirit Power: 373 → 423
Mana: 301 → 451
Isaac smiled faintly. Her stats increased nicely.
Emily let out a shaky breath, forcing a strained smile.
“T-that was a lot.”
She glanced at him nervously, as though afraid he might suddenly pull out another handful of potions.
“About the trial—”
“Wait a second.”
Her shoulders stiffened instantly.
“…More potions?”
He laughed. “Relax. It’s not potions this time.”
Relief washed over her features so strongly she slumped back against the bedpost.
Isaac opened his Lord Profile and scrolled until Emily’s name appeared. With a thought, he selected it and transferred the SSS Talent Fragment to her.
Emily blinked as the glowing shard of light materialized before her, then melted into her chest. Her eyes widened at the screen that appeared before her.
She turned toward Isaac, shocked. “You should take it.”
“I had several Talent Fragments. I already used one. I can’t take more,” he said casually.
She narrowed her eyes at him, searching his expression carefully.
He met her gaze without flinching. For
a long moment, it seemed like she might argue.
Finally, she looked away, sighing. “…Fine.”
The Fragment sank deeper into her body. A new notification flickered before her eyes.
Talent Upgraded: Spirit Conductor (SSS) → Spirit Conductor (SSS+)
A new skill appeared beneath it.
Third Talent Skill: Spirit Weave (SSS)
Skill Level: 1
Effect: Allows you to temporarily fuse two of your summons into a hybrid.
Cost: 100 Mana (increases depending on the strength of summons).
Cooldown: 6 hours (Only exists for the summons that have been fused.)
Isaac raised a brow when he saw it. That was a useful skill, and it had countless applications.
Emily stared at the description in stunned silence.
“Spirit Weave…”
She looked at Isaac, her lips parting as though she wanted to say something, but the words didn’t come.
“You got stronger. Congrats.”
Emily’s throat tightened. She
held his gaze, then lowered her eyes. Her fingers curled tightly in the fabric of her dress.
“…You keep giving me things. Things I don’t deserve.”
Isaac shook his head. “You deserve them more than anyone.”
Her lips trembled again. For a moment, she looked like she might cry all over, but she swallowed hard and forced the feeling back.
“…Thank you.”
He smiled faintly.
Emily returned a weak smile. I was the first time she had laughed since remembering everything.
Isaac reached out and squeezed her hand.
“How are you feeling now?”
“I’m feeling better.”
Emily nodded slowly.
Her eyes, though still carrying that hollow look, seemed softer now.
The heaviness of her memories hadn’t disappeared, but for the first time in what felt like ages, she looked a little less crushed by them.
Isaac didn’t press her with more words. He let the silence settle, giving her room to breathe.
In his mind, however, his thoughts were anything but silent.
System, share Emily’s stats!
A transparent screen unfolded before his eyes.
Strength: 1000 [1330] → 1000 [1776]
Agility: 1000 [1460] → 1000 [1950]
Spirit Power: 1000 [1523] → 1000 [1788]
He studied them carefully.
It made sense that the numbers hadn’t climbed higher.
He was already maxed out, after all.
But there was a reason he was increasing his backlog. He had a plan, one that would make completing Emily’s trial easier if everything worked out.
System, share the effects of the potions Emily drank!
Strength: 1000 [1776] → 1000 [2176]
Agility: 1000 [1950] → 1000 [2350]
Spirit Power: 1000 [1788] → 1000 [1838]
The jump was significant. He exhaled quietly.
System, share everything else that improved for Emily after her ascension to Apex rank!
Affinities:
Ice: Level 2 → Level 5
Curse: Level 2 → Level 3
Spirit: Level 2 → Level 4
The true benefit of reaching Apex rank wasn’t the sudden growth in abilities, but the increase to stat limits.
Emily had that now.
That alone was a breakthrough she wouldn’t have been able to touch otherwise.
But there was more to consider.
System, share Emily’s Talent and the Talent Fragments I gave her!
[Talent Fragment SSS+ x1, Talent Fragment SSS x1 gained]
[Would host like to combine Talent Fragments?]
’Yes,’ Isaac said without hesitation.
The system responded.
[Total Talent Fragments: SSS+ x2, SSS x2]
[Fusing Talent Fragments…]
[Total Talent Fragments: Transcendence x1, SSS+]
His waited for the Talent to rank up.
But it didn’t, for some inexplicable reason.
System, how many Talent Fragments are required to evolve my Talent?
[Talent Fragments needed for next evolution: Transcendence x3 (Not including host’s own Talent)]
Isaac rubbed his chin, running the numbers quickly.
If I give Alice a Talent Fragment and share it with me… that’ll give me two Transcendence fragments, plus one SSS rank fragment left over. That still leaves me short of….
One more Transcendence fragment… or three more SSS fragments to be exact.
The requirement sounded ridiculous.
But instead of discouraging him, it stirred something else in his chest.
He smiled faintly.
This just means the boost will be worth it. After all, if it takes this much effort to reach next rank of Talent, the result has to be huge.
He dismissed the screens and looked back at Emily.
She was sitting quietly, her hands resting in her lap, her gaze lowered.
She didn’t speak, but she didn’t look completely lost either.
Isaac reached into his spatial ring and pulled something out. The faint shimmer of ice-blue metal reflected in the light as he held the blade out to her.
Emily blinked. “This is…?”
He offered it with both hands. “Your gift. The Frostveil Sword.”
Her lips parted slightly as her fingers brushed against the hilt. The blade hummed faintly as if recognizing her touch.
“What am I supposed to do with this?” she asked.
“Use it to protect yourself,” Isaac said. “Especially when someone gets too close. Although you are a summoner, it’s better to have a back-up plan at all time.”
Emily held the weapon carefully. She traced her thumb along the flat of the blade, the icy surface sending a faint chill into her skin.
Before she could respond, he took out more items from the spatial ring.
These were the defensive artifacts he purchased from Special Shop during his own trial.
“Take this, and this, and this. Oh, take this one too.”
Emily smiled helplessly as she watched the pile grow larger.
Her eyes weren’t looking at the artifacts, but at Isaac himself.
A warmth stirred in her heart.
The loneliness and pain she felt after watching her past was being slowly pushed away.
