Chapter 211: Chapter 211: Their Hardest Challenge Yet (2)
As Pyroth shook off the lingering dizziness from Barney’s concussive shield bash, its glowing reptilian eyes flared with raw, tempestuous fury. The beast inhaled violently, its chest expanding as white-hot plasma began gathering in its maw once more.
Rowan didn’t give it the chance.
With an effortless sweep of his hand, Rowan invoked [Chaff in the Wind].
A dense, violent cloud of razor-sharp grain husks, microscopic mineral dust, and particulate earth mana detonated directly in front of Pyroth’s face. The six-meter obscurement zone instantly enveloped the drake’s massive head. The abrasive cloud smothered Pyroth’s vision, while the thick, particulate mana invaded its open gullet, choking out its ability to gather wind and fire. Blinded and silenced, the mighty beast thrashed blindly in confusion, its ferocious roar reduced to a stifled, wheezing cough.
In the same split second, the skill’s secondary effect took hold. Rowan’s form shimmered and vanished into complete Invisibility, a thirty percent surge in movement speed carrying him across the obsidian floor like a ghost in the storm.
Before the drake could recover from the sudden sensory deprivation, Rowan materialized right beneath its towering belly. He raised the Hoe of the World-Tiller and brought its iron head down into the stone floor with absolute authority.
[Vines of the Thorns]!
A five-meter radius beneath Pyroth’s feet exploded into a wild tangle of thick, emerald-green brambles lined with needle-sharp obsidian thorns. The rapid-growth vines coiled around the drake’s massive, clawed legs like living steel cables, driving deep into the crevices of its fiery scales.
Pyroth let out a muffled growl of pain as the nature damage seeped into its hide, but more importantly, the immense weight of the beast was locked firmly in place—Rooted solid to the cavern floor!
"Mirei, Caelen! The stage is set!" Rowan’s voice echoed from beside the anchored boss, his straw hat tilted low as he stepped back with casual ease.
"On it!" Mirei shouted from her high basalt pillar. ℯℯ𝑙.
With Pyroth completely blinded, silenced, and pinned to the ground, its neck vents were fully exposed and stationary. Mirei drew the string of her Breeze-Striker Longbow to its maximum tension, channeling her Level 30 wind mana into a single, needle-thin shaft of concentrated air pressure.
"Now, Caelen!" Mirei loosed the shot, the arrow whistling through the air with a supersonic boom, flying straight for the drake’s stifled breathing vents to complete the trap!
***
Mirei’s needle-thin wind arrow struck with mathematical precision, plunging directly into the exposed thermal vents along Pyroth’s neck. The compressed air shot choked the internal furnace, sending a backfire of suffocating black smoke bursting out of the drake’s snout.
With Pyroth choked, blinded, and pinned in place by Rowan’s thorny brambles, Caelen saw his moment.
He launched himself high into the cavern air, rising like a meteor above the thrashing beast. Gravity took hold, and Caelen brought his greatsword down with pure, unadulterated brutality. His gold-tinted aura flared into a blinding executioner’s edge as the blade cleaved through the wind-cushion, sinking deep into the main joint of Pyroth’s massive left wing.
CRACK!
The sound of thick dragon bone snapping and tendon severing echoed across the entire amphitheater. High-pressure, white-hot blood sprayed across the stone, and Pyroth issued a horrific, earth-shaking screech as its left wing collapsed uselessly to the floor, permanently grounding the flying terror.
"Flight canceled, lizard!" Caelen shouted, landing heavily on the stone and rolling clear of the thrashing tail.
Before Pyroth could even attempt to swing its massive claws at Caelen, Rowan stepped into the forward line. His straw hat tilted low over his eyes, and a deep, terrifying resonance pulsed from his frame.
Rowan lowered his center of gravity, planting both feet firmly onto the bedrock. He gripped the shaft of the Hoe of the World-Tiller with both hands and drove its iron head deep into the core of the obsidian floor.
[Earthbreaker Plough: Celestial Furrow] Casting time: 1.5 seconds...
A deadly silence fell over the chamber for a fraction of a second as Rowan charged his stance. The ambient mana in the air vibrated violently, drawn inward toward the hoe like a massive gravitational drain.
Then, Rowan charged forward.
BOOM!
The world shattered. A massive thirty-meter cone erupting in front of Rowan erupted upward as if a buried mountain had exploded. The ancient bedrock, obsidian floor, and solid stone were pulverized instantly into a churning, roaring sea of jagged earth and thousand-ton crushing boulders.
The earth-shattering surge plowed through the arena like a celestial tsunami, dragging Pyroth into the churning abyss of stone. Massive slabs of granite smashed repeatedly into the drake’s chest and flanks, shattering its dense thermal scales and dealing catastrophic, raw crushing damage.
When the dust settled, and the thundering echo faded, the entire front half of the boss arena had been completely reshaped into a pulverized, jagged furrow.
Pyroth lay buried beneath a mountain of crushed boulders, its body broken, its wing severed, and its movement entirely impaired. A sliver of its health bar remained, flickering wildly in the red zone as the mighty Level 35 boss feebly clawed at the rubble, unable to rise.
Barney wiped a layer of stone dust off his helmet, staring in absolute awe at the thirty-meter-wide path of total destruction Rowan had carved with a single tool strike.
"Now that," Barney gasped, chuckling in disbelief, "is how you turn a dragon’s lair into a fresh garden plot!"
Rowan casually swung the Hoe of the World-Tiller back onto his shoulder, dusting off his shirt as if he had done nothing more than turn a small patch of soil. He offered the squad a relaxed, confident smirk.
"It’s all yours, team," Rowan said softly. "Finish it off."
Seraphina sprang forward from behind Barney’s massive shield, unhooking a dark obsidian flask from her alchemy belt. With a practiced flick of her wrist, she hurled the Corrosive Acid Flask high over the rubble. The glass shattered precisely against the raw, severed tendon of Pyroth’s broken wing joint.
A violent hiss erupted as the emerald acid reacted with dragon blood, bubbling and rapidly corroding through the boss’s remaining scales and exposed flesh. Pyroth shrieked in agony, its thermal core flickering wildly as the venomous compound ate away at its vital points, stripping away the last remnants of its physical defense.
"Mirei, on three!" Caelen shouted, kicking off a jagged granite boulder raised by Rowan’s plough.
"Already ahead of you!" Mirei called back, drawing her Breeze-Striker Longbow to its absolute limit.
In perfect synchronization, Mirei loosed a blinding, hurricane-velocity arrow of pure wind mana just as Caelen drove himself skyward. Her wind shot sliced through the air, punching straight into the corroded wound and opening a clear, barrier-free trajectory straight into Pyroth’s internal core.
Following the path carved by Mirei’s shot, Caelen descended like a golden comet. Channeling every ounce of his Level 30 aura into his greatsword, he brought the blade down in a devastating two-handed executioner strike.
THUNDER-CRASH!
The aura-infused blade sank to the hilt directly into the drake’s exposed chest cavity.
For a single heartbeat, time seemed to freeze in the Ash-Winds Crucible. Pyroth’s glowing eyes flared blindingly bright, a final, silent shockwave expanding outward from its chest. Then, deep cracks of iridescent light spider-webbed across the drake’s colossal frame.
With a soft, melodic hum, the towering Level 35 boss shattered into millions of sparkling motes of crimson, gold, and sapphire mana. The terrifying tempest drake dissolved into thin air, leaving the vast, reshaped amphitheater in peaceful quiet.
Where Pyroth had just lay thrashing, a dense, glittering pile of high-tier boss loot materialized on the cool stone floor—shimmering with the unmistakable radiance of rare crafting metals, skill scrolls, chest gear, and elemental catalysts.
