【 SELLING OUT TEAMMATES AS USUAL 】

As soon as Los finished speaking, the thunderous roar of artillery echoed from beyond the fortress walls.

Oz’s expression changed slightly.

“It’s the sound of magic cannons…”

“Looks like… they’ve begun their assault.”

༺⟐༻

Outside the Demon Fortress, atop the cliffs overlooking the canyon.

A massive line of magic cannons stood neatly arranged, numbering more than eight hundred in total.

These cannons had been jointly prepared by over two hundred guilds of varying sizes participating in the campaign, with more than half contributed by the Seven Major Guilds.

The dark cannon muzzles were aimed directly at the Demon Fortress beneath the volcano and behind every cannon stood two players.

One was responsible for charging the cannon, while the other handled the task of aiming and firing.

Ji Gang stood on the cliff and raised a telescope toward the fortress.

After a brief glance, he slowly lowered it.

Then he gently raised his right hand, and his impassioned voice rang out across the battlefield communication channel:

“Artillery positions, attention!”

“Target the fortress walls—Fire!”

Boom!

At his command, more than eight hundred cannons erupted simultaneously with blue magical flames.

Countless elemental shells streaked across the sky like a meteor shower, tracing beautiful arcs before crashing down both inside and outside the fortress.

A deafening series of explosions echoed across the battlefield, and the Demon Fortress was instantly engulfed in a magnificent sea of flames as blasts erupted everywhere, catching the demons entering the stronghold completely off guard.

In an instant, patches of blood blossomed within the fortress and along the city walls, each one followed a second later by a violent explosion.

Blue flames surged skyward before rapidly turning orange-red, tearing apart everything in their path and reducing all they touched to ashes.

Magic cannons possessed innate explosive properties, and their destructive power far surpassed the bronze cannons of Earth’s gunpowder era. So in terms of battlefield impact, their capabilities were much closer to modern artillery.

The relentless bombardment from above further deepened the panic of the already demoralized demon army.

The players had prepared an enormous stockpile of mana crystals, and the thunder of cannon fire continued without pause.

As such, the demons attempting to enter the fortress were thrown completely into disarray, with signs of retreat beginning to appear throughout their ranks.

Watching the distant Demon Fortress be engulf in a sea of fire, the players standing upon the cliffs revealed expressions of excitement and awe.

Then, Ji Gang raised his longsword and shouted:

“All forces… advance!”

“Target—Demon Fortress!”

By this point, the morale of the demon army had completely collapsed.

Although their overall strength might still have surpassed that of the players on paper, the repeated defeats and relentless pursuits they had endured had long since shattered their will to fight.

Demons were chaotic and frenzied by nature, but they were still beings capable of emotion.

They could still feel fear.

And they could still feel the instinct to flee.

Thus, at this very moment, they could no longer bring forth the true power of a coordinated demon army. What remained was only scattered resistance, panic, and disorder.

To the highly motivated players, they were no longer worthy of serious concern, only targets waiting to be swept away.

This was the perfect opportunity for a full-scale assault and an even better chance to collect kills.

The moment Ji Gang gave the order, the players who had long been waiting quickly sprang into action.

They spread across the cliffs and drew their weapons one after another before charging toward the Fortress below with excited battle cries.

In an instant, tens of thousands of players surged forward like a cascading waterfall pouring down the cliffside slopes.

They rapidly crashed into the increasingly chaotic demon army below and, like a razor-sharp blade, tore through the enemy ranks, completely shattering the demon forces.

Thus, the battle of the Fallen God Canyon had officially begun.

The players at the forefront roared in unison as their bodies rapidly expanded.

Some grew dragon scales.

Some unfurled bat-like wings.

Others experienced explosive muscle growth, their bodies swelling as though inflated.

Their strength rose dramatically once again, and they charged wildly across the battlefield with unstoppable momentum.

These were the transformation abilities of players who had awakened the special bloodline class like Dragonblood Elf, Blood Elf, and Titan Elf.

At the same time, streaks of golden light blossomed randomly throughout the player ranks.

Each player touched by the radiance experienced an immediate surge in power, quickly breaking through to the Gold-rank.

The Goddess’s Divine Favor had been bestowed and the chosen players wore expressions of joy as though they had just won a lottery.

Instantly invigorated, they entered a state of extreme excitement.

Laughing loudly, they charged into the demon ranks and began slaughtering everything before them.

Watching these savage, bloodthirsty elves rampage across the battlefield, many demons found themselves momentarily stunned.

Everyone said that demons were the embodiment of chaos and evil…

So why…

Did these elves seem even more demonic than they were?

However, just as the magic cannons continued their bombardment and the player army unleashed a devastating massacre, a world-shaking roar suddenly erupted from the direction of the Demon Fortress.

Several sinister figures slowly rose into the sky, their forms expanding as they ascended.

A sea of flames spread across the heavens as five Abyssal Myths appeared above the Demon Fortress.

The five Abyssal Myths let out thunderous roars, and a dark, profound radiance descended upon the Fortress, completely blocking the incoming barrage from the magic cannons.

Ji Gang’s expression shifted slightly.

“Abyssal Myths…”

Turning around, he respectfully bowed toward the three Mythical-rank dragons standing behind him in human form: the ancient dragon Mars along with his companions, Mercury, and Venus.

“Lord Mars, Lord Mercury, Lady Venus… Finally those Abyssal Myths have shown themselves.”

The three mythical-rank dragons exchanged glances and nodded.

Then, accompanied by resounding dragon roars, they transformed back into their original majestic dragon forms and soared into the sky.

In the blink of an eye, they engaged the five Abyssal Myths in a battle.

The fight was barely even, with the three ancient dragons gradually showing signs of being pushed onto the defensive.

Looking at their battle in the sky, Ji Gang’s expression grew solemn and he turned toward another figure nearby.

Not far away, Meryer, who’s also in his human form, was casually sitting on a rock, munching on a dried meat.

“Um… Lord Meryer?”

he asked cautiously.

“This lord is already a great Dragon God. You should properly address me as the Great Lord Meryer!”

Meryer lifted his chin proudly as he spoke.

Ji Gang: “…”

“Uh… Great Lord Meryer, aren’t you going to join the battle?”

he asked.

Meryer stuffed the last piece of dried meat into his mouth, licked his fingers, and replied:

“No rush.”

“It seems there’s still a big fellow hiding inside the fortress. It won’t be too late for this Great Lord to enter the battlefield after that one makes a move. These weaklings aren’t even worthy of my atten—”

Before he could finish his sentence, everything changed.

Under Ji Gang’s surprised gaze, Meryer suddenly sprang to his feet like a lazy cat that had just been startled awake.

With a loud roar, he instantly transformed into his dragon form and charged toward the Abyssal Myths while letting out a deafening scream:

“The Great Lord despises evil more than anything! You ugly demons, die for me!”

Ji Gang: “…”

His mouth opened slightly as he stared at the black dragon, who had suddenly become overflowing with fighting spirit.

Oddly enough, his expression looked rather strange, as if he had been reprimanded or something.

Meanwhile, on the other side, Féng slowly withdrew her gaze from Myrell and allowed a faint smile to appear at the corners of her lips.

Sometimes, a supervisor really was necessary.

The moment a Dragon God joined the battlefield, the situation reversed instantly.

Like a living cannonball, Meryer crashed into the clash between Mythical beings.

His massive black wings blotted out the sky, making him appear like a terrifying beast heralding the end of the world.

With a furious roar, he opened his enormous jaws and lunged at the Abyssal Myths.

Feeling the overwhelming power emanating from Meryer, the Abyssal Myths’ expression changed dramatically, and they immediately attempted to evade him.

However, a Dragon God was still a Dragon God.

The instant he entered the battlefield, Meryer had already locked onto the weakest among them, a Demon King whose strength was only at the demigod-rank.

The unfortunate demon had no time to react before Meryer’s jaws closed around him.

Once fully manifested, the body of an Abyssal Myth was already colossal.

Yet before the now-divine Meryer, that enormous demonic form resembled nothing more than a rabbit facing a hunting leopard.

In a single exchange, Meryer bit directly into the demon’s body.

Under the horrified gazes of the surrounding Abyssal Myths, he tore the Demon King cleanly in half.

A shrill scream echoed across the heavens before abruptly falling silent.

Moments later, a foul-smelling rain of blood descended from the sky.

The remaining four Abyssal Myths were horrified.

“Black Dragon God! It’s the Black Dragon God Meryer!”

The moment he heard those words, the Dragon God who had just been forced onto the battlefield and had immediately slain an Abyssal Myth, feeling exhilarated and full of fighting spirit, instantly darkened.

Meryer’s expression twisted into a ferocious snarl.

Baring his teeth, he roared at the four Abyssal Myths:

“Huh!? Who are you calling a Black Dragon? You’re the Black Dragon! Your whole family are Black Dragons! Ruaaaah!”

Then, under the bewildered and terrified gazes of the four Abyssal Myths, and the peculiar looks of the three Mythical-rank dragons, he charged straight back into battle and began relentlessly pursuing them.

Sensing the terrifying aura radiating from Meryer, the four Abyssal Myths were thoroughly alarmed.

Although he possessed only weak divine power, no one dared underestimate the black dragon who had already become a Dragon God.

Among the four remaining Abyssal Myths, three had likewise reached the rank of weak divine power.

Yet Meryer possessed the overwhelming advantage of having the bloodline of a Dragon God.

Therefore, despite being within the Abyss itself, they were not confident that the four of them together could defeat him.

Besides, expecting Abyssal Myths to truly cooperate without secretly sabotaging one another was about as likely as the sun rising from the west.

And behind the Black Dragon God stood three equally powerful Mythical-rank dragons who loathed evil with all their hearts.

After countless thoughts flashed through their minds, the four Abyssal Myths reached the same decision almost simultaneously.

Without the slightest hesitation, they turned and fled toward the Dimensional Gate to Hell.

Each one moved faster than the last, as though terrified of being even a second slower than their companions.

“Hmph! Trying to run? Evil demons, die! Ruaaaah!”

Letting out a thunderous dragon cry, Meryer cursed loudly as he chased after them.

Meryer’s enormous body swept past the other three Mythical dragons.

Mars, Mercury, and Venus looked at the suddenly enraged Meryer, then at the Abyssal Myths fleeing in panic. The three exchanged glances before letting out wry smiles and descending back to the cliff.

Once Meryer fully unleashed the power of a Dragon God, he was far stronger than any of them.

So at this point, rather than rushing forward to assist him, they were better off simply watching from the sidelines.

As for whether those Abyssal Myths might escape because of it, the three dragons seemed completely unconcerned.

This left Ji Gang, who was standing on the cliff, feeling rather puzzled.

Hadn’t they pursued the demons all the way here specifically to prevent them from escaping this world?

And while he was still wondering about this, he witnessed something even stranger.

Those four Abyssal Myths in the sky were charging toward the enormous Gate of Hell and the leading demon already had a trace of excitement on his face.

However, at the very instant he was about to enter the Gate, an invisible barrier suddenly blocked his path.

He slammed directly into it and was violently thrown backward.

Moments later, the other Abyssal Myths also crashed into the barrier one after another.

Caught completely off guard, they were left dazed and disoriented by the impact.

But it did not take long for them to realize what just happened.

The Abyssal Myth known as Sachi glared toward the Gate of Hell and shouted furiously:

“Los! What are you doing?!”

At the same moment, a figure wreathed entirely in flames slowly appeared before the Gate of Hell.

It was the Flame Demon, Los.

He coldly swept his gaze across the Abyssal Myths, who had yet to fully recover from their shock, and revealed a mocking smile.

Then, all alone, he began walking toward the Gate of Hell all by himself.

The moment he stepped through it, the entire gate radiated a profound and eerie glow as it slowly began to close.

By this point, only a fool would fail to realize that they had been sold out.

The remaining Abyssal Myths were both shocked and furious, their enraged voices echoing across the battlefield.

“Los! You bastard! How dare you deceive us!”

“I knew it! I should’ve seen this coming! Its obvious he already controlled the Gate long ago!”

“What a bunch of idiots.”

The disdainful voice of Los drifted from within the Gate of Hell.

“Los!”

The four Abyssal Myths were consumed with rage.

But in the very next moment, Meryer finally caught up with them and three of the Abyssal Myths reacted without the slightest hesitation.

They simultaneously turned and struck the demon named Oz, who was positioned at the rear.

Under Oz’s stunned gaze, they sent him flying directly toward Meryer before immediately changing direction and fleeing elsewhere.

“You bastar—”

Yet before Oz could even finish his sentence, Meryer swallowed him whole in a single bite.

Watching this astonishing chain of reversals, the players across the battlefield were left dumbfounded.

Ji Gang stared blankly for a moment before finally recovering his senses. He turned toward the golden dragon Mars beside him and said:

“Lord Mars, it looks like the Gate of Hell is about to close. Too bad one of the Abyssal Myths had managed to escaped.”

Mars merely smiled faintly.

“Commander Ji Gang, do not worry.”

“He won’t escape.”

“Hm?”

Ji Gang’s heart stirred.

He looked at the golden dragon, who had once again assumed his human form.

Mars wore a meaningful expression as he spoke:

“Commander.”

“Do you know what our true mission was when we pursued these demons all the way here?”

Their true mission?

Ji Gang’s heart skipped a beat.

Even the nearby players who overheard the conversation could not help but turn their attention toward him.

Yet none of them noticed that Féng, who had been standing on the cliff only moments earlier, had quietly disappeared.

In the next instant, a pillar of golden light shot into the heavens.

Under the players’ astonished and increasingly excited gazes, a sacred and beautiful figure slowly emerged before the Gate of Hell.

The Goddess of Life, Evé.

The holy figure standing amidst the darkness was so dazzling that, for a brief moment, the players forgot to continue fighting.

Then, she gently extended a hand.

The invisible barrier that had blocked the four Abyssal Myths shattered like fragile bubbles.

At the same time, her arm reached directly into the closing Gate and it seemed that she had grasped something from within it…
