Game Maker: Starting by Healing the Players
Chapter 764 - 764: The Truth of Silent Hill
Entering the first floor of the Lakeview Hotel, James found a map in the elevator lobby.
The rooms on the other floors were normal, but room 312 had a message on it: "Always waiting for you."
This was the room James and Mary had lived in. So, was Mary really still alive?
Later, James also found a note at the front counter.
It read: "Mr. James, the video tape you forgot is in the first-floor office."
Then he found the key to room 312, and also a fish-shaped key in the restaurant.
Just as Zack was about to control James to leave the restaurant, a piano in the corner of the restaurant suddenly made a sound.
The sound of a piano suddenly rang out in the once deathly silent restaurant, startling Zack greatly.
He quickly turned to look in the direction of the sound and saw Laura crouched on a stool behind the piano.
"Damn it, you again, you little brat!"
"Are you asking if I was scared? You're the one speaking, aren't you?!"
Looking at Laura walking out from behind the piano, Zack felt speechless.
Even though she didn't seem particularly special.
But after Eddie, who had died before, and Maria and Angela, who had died and come back to life only to die again.
Zack had a bit of psychological trauma concerning Laura.
Especially since every time this little girl appeared, a strange scene would follow.
In the apartment, she kicked the key on the floor, then made him face his "third brother."
In the hospital, after locking her in a small room and leaving her to "hug it out" with three monsters, exiting led directly into a bizarre world.
It was close to killing him.
However, here, Laura didn't seem to be playing tricks on James as before. Instead, she told him about his origins and gave him a letter from Mary.
"Dear Laura, I'm leaving this letter for Rachel to give to you after I leave."
"Now... I'm going to go far away, to a peaceful and beautiful place."
"Please forgive me for leaving without saying goodbye, take care, Laura."
"I know you dislike James, because you think he treated me badly. But please give him a chance. It's true he has a bad temper sometimes and doesn't smile much, but he's a good person at heart."
"Laura... I love you as if you were my own. If it hadn't come to this, I would have adopted you."
"Happy 8th birthday, Laura."
Seeing this letter, James was sure it was indeed written by Mary.
From what Laura said, she also knew Rachel, the nurse who took care of Mary, and given that Laura was only eight years old.
At this moment, James fell into confusion.
Because this meant Mary couldn't have died three years ago; she might have been alive just a week ago.
Was Laura lying, or was the letter forged, or was his memory failing him?
Was Mary really still alive? Was she really waiting for him here?
As James slowly searched the Lakeview Hotel, Zack felt relatively relaxed.
The atmosphere of the entire Lakeview Hotel was much better than before. Apart from the deathly silence, there weren't too many frightening or oppressive monsters.
He found the videotape that Maria and the note had mentioned, and then James followed the instructions to room 312, where he and Mary had once stayed.
The room was very bright, with furniture neatly arranged.
The window glass and everything else were intact.
Except for the dust on the floor and tables, proving that no one had stayed in the room for a long time, everything else was fine.
Through the window, he could see the white fog blanketing the town of Silent Hill.
In front of the fireplace was a TV and a VCR, along with a sofa placed to the side.
Controlling James, he walked forward, moved the sofa in front of the TV, and then James inserted the videotape he had found into the VCR.
Did Mary die or not? What was Silent Hill?
Zack had a premonition that everything would be explained in this videotape.
"Crackle... crackle..."
After static appeared on the screen and a burst of electrical noise.
The black and white TV displayed the contents of the videotape.
"You're recording again? No..."
On the TV screen, a woman identical to Maria appeared, clearly Mary, James's wife.
However, unlike Maria, Mary's hair was styled up, and her expression was not as seductive.
She waved at the camera, then sat on the sofa by the window, gazing outside.
"I don't know why, but I just like it here."
"Very peaceful."
She turned her head, smiling.
"Do you know what I've heard?"
"This place used to be a sacred site... now we know why."
"It's a pity we have to leave..."
"Promise me you'll bring me back here again... cough cough."
Mary's face held a hopeful smile, but before she could finish, she couldn't help but cough.
At the same time, the image on the TV suddenly became chaotic.
Different fragments flashed and intertwined.
It was unclear whether it was James's memory or the content of the videotape itself.
One moment, it was Mary coughing; the next, Mary gazing out the window; then, Mary lying in bed, seriously ill.
These different images intertwined and tangled, finally freezing on the scene of Mary lying in bed with James taking care of her.
But the next moment, James stood up and blocked the camera.
The TV screen became extremely blurry, but through the blur, James could vaguely be seen pulling something down and pressing it onto Mary, who was lying in bed.
Then, with a burst of noisy sounds, only static remained on the TV.
James just sat there blankly in front of the TV, his head slumped, motionless, as if all his strength had been drained away.
All he could hear was the static from the TV.
After a while, he heard footsteps. Laura, the little girl, ran over, pushed James, and asked him if he had found Mary. If not, she would go find Mary with him.
Slowly raising his head, James looked at Laura in front of him.
"Mary is gone... Mary, she's dead."
Laura shouted excitedly, "Liar! You're lying!"
"No, it's true..."
James shook his head.
Seeing James's expression, Laura couldn't quite believe it: "She... she's dead? Died of illness?"
"No..."
"I killed her."
Although he had a suspicion in his mind, hearing James's words, Zack in the game widened his eyes.
Mary had been dead for a long time, and James had killed her?
What was going on?
After admitting he killed Mary, Laura became very angry with James, crying and hitting him.
James guiltily apologized to Laura, but she still left.
But strangely, Mary's voice then came from the radio again, asking him to come see her quickly.
Was this Mary's ghost, or something else?
As he walked out of room 312, the hotel had become dilapidated, and blood dripped constantly from the ceiling.
Just like in the hospital before, James had entered the otherworld again.
On the stairs, he encountered Angela. The stone stairs had turned into wooden ones.
Flames surrounded them. Angela told James of her past misfortunes; her father, mother, and brother had never truly treated her as a person.
Her life had been like this sea of fire, and so, in despair, Angela slowly walked into the flames.
Continuing forward to the attic, James saw Maria again.
This time, she was inverted and fixed on a metal frame, about to be impaled by two Pyramid Heads.
At this point, James and the player finally understood everything. Combined with what Eddie and Angela had experienced, and James's own encounters, everything was explained.
The Pyramid Head was created by James to punish himself for his sins.
The land of Silent Hill had possessed incredible power since ancient times. It would lead those with dark hearts into another realm.
It would manifest people's inner negative emotions. Therefore, the bizarre scenes James saw upon arriving in Silent Hill, the terrifying monsters, and all the experiences were actually manifestations of his inner darkness.
This was why Angela, Eddie, and James could see all sorts of monsters. As for why the little girl Laura could walk freely in Silent Hill, it was because she was just a child and did not have the same dark side as James and the others. Therefore, to her, Silent Hill was just an ordinary town.
