Game Maker: Starting by Healing the Players
Chapter 735 - 735: Can't Stop
Looking back at the desperate Kratos who jumped off the cliff to end his life, Zack was full of emotion.
He learned that a person's knowledge is a powerful weapon; a brute cannot outwit a learned person.
Kratos wanted the gods to make him forget his past, but they told him they had already forgiven him, and whether he could forgive himself was his own business.
Considering Kratos' past mistreatment by the gods, Zack felt no goodwill towards them whatsoever.
If one really examines Kratos, the protagonist of the game, he is, in fact, a complete scumbag.
As a Spartan general, Kratos believed in the law of the jungle, the survival of the fittest. He showed no regard for life, and countless innocents died by his hand.
However, despite this, Kratos had something admirable: his deep affection for his wife and daughter. This was the reason for his earlier quest for the Fruit of Immortality.
And because of this affection, Kratos, who appeared to be a fierce warrior, chose to evade his past of killing his wife and daughter rather than facing it bravely.
In contrast, the famous gods of Greek mythology presented a very different face.
After becoming the God of War, Kratos discovered more secrets. In Atlantis, he found his mother and brother. However, his mother had been cursed into a monster and had to be killed by Kratos himself. Later, his brother died fighting in the abyss. The seeds of hatred were now sown in Kratos' heart.
After returning from Atlantis, having lost all his relatives, Kratos, with the power of the God of War, helped his people conquer territory.
This greatly displeased the Olympian gods, who were wary of this new god, who was originally mortal. However, Kratos also held the gods in contempt.
Ignoring Athena's advice, Kratos went to Rhodes to help his Spartan followers fight.
But at this moment, a white eagle used a spell to shrink Kratos back to mortal size and activated the Colossus of Rhodes. Believing Athena had betrayed him, Kratos fought his way to the colossus.
Before the colossus, Zeus appeared, claiming to help Kratos, and even bestowed his Olympian Sword upon him.
But Zeus's true intention was to strip Kratos of his divine power and kill him.
Because Kratos had abused his power without restraint, Zeus could no longer tolerate his existence. At the same time, Zeus feared that Kratos's power would surpass his own.
"Zeus!"
With Kratos's angry roar, Kratos, stripped of his divine power, was ruthlessly killed by Zeus.
From initially believing in gods to doubting them, and then being betrayed by Zeus on Rhodes, Kratos's heart was now filled with only the rage of revenge.
There were more diverse boss battles and more gameplay options. Besides the Blades of Chaos bestowed by Ares, the God of War, at the beginning.
Later, Kratos could also obtain various weapons in the game.
The Barbarian's Sledge, Spear of Destiny, Apollo's Bow, and Claws of Hades, combined with various magic skills, were sure to get the adrenaline pumping.
Especially as the game's plot progressed, the scale of the events the player encountered grew larger and larger.
The Olympian gods had become Kratos's targets for revenge.
Of course, the game's plot was only part of the gameplay. Using a variety of weapons and magic skill combos to slaughter bosses.
This was what made God of War truly exciting for players.
Furthermore, compared to the more numerous and complex puzzles in his previous life, Lucas had appropriately optimized many of them.
And of course, there was the fan-favorite mini-game: the soul-squeezing red souls.
On a stormy, thunderous night, after defeating a horde of soldiers on a ship, Kratos relaxed in the ship's cabin.
After defeating the giant stone statue on Rhodes, Kratos thoroughly washed away the fatigue of body and mind in a hot spring.
Of course, during the years Kratos served the gods before avenging Ares, his impressive record of fighting eight opponents at once had shocked countless players.
However, these mini-games were mostly for players to adjust their mindset.
What players truly cared about was the ultimate aesthetic of violence.
If Kratos was already very violent before becoming the God of War.
Then, after being framed by Zeus, Kratos fully demonstrated what it meant to be insane.
A series of interlocking plot points kept players hooked.
It was like a volcano on the verge of eruption.
When experiencing the content of "God of War," players could clearly feel all of this.
Players could even feel a sense of resonance with Kratos in the game.
The scale grew, and the anger intensified.
The flames of revenge burned on in Kratos's heart.
Kratos, who was stripped of his divine power and killed by Zeus, did not die. Instead, he met Gaia, the mother of the Titans.
Gaia told Kratos the story of the war between the Titans and the Olympians, and that they shared a common enemy: Zeus.
This was also why Gaia saved Kratos. After telling Kratos these things.
Gaia informed Kratos that if he wanted to undo everything and exact revenge on Zeus, he had to find the Three Fates and rewrite history.
Harpies, Minotaurs, Gorgons, Griffins, Cyclops, and countless monsters and heroes from Greek mythology appeared on Kratos's path to the Island of Fate.
However, nothing could stop the revenge-driven Kratos; they were all brutally dispatched by the enraged Kratos.
Finally, after defeating the three Fates, Kratos successfully returned to the past, to the moment Zeus betrayed him, and regained the Olympian Sword, engaging Zeus in dozens of rounds of fierce combat.
However, just as he was about to kill Zeus, Athena suddenly appeared and took the fatal blow for Zeus, allowing him to escape.
Before she died, Athena revealed the truth: Kratos was actually Zeus's son. Zeus, fearing that Kratos would follow in his footsteps and kill his father, had designed the plot to kill Kratos.
However, Athena's death did not extinguish the flames of anger in Kratos's heart. Afterward, Kratos, along with Gaia and other giants, returned to the Age of Holy War.
Their goal was singular: revenge on Zeus and the Olympians!
The Greek gods also gathered on Olympus, preparing to eliminate Kratos, the threat.
Below Olympus, Kratos roared with the Olympian Sword held high.
Previously, Kratos's opponents were ordinary sea monsters, various monsters and heroes from Greek mythology; the gods themselves were quite rare.
But in this final act of revenge, Kratos's opponents had all become Olympian gods.
.........
It must be said that God of War has delivered a truly explosive experience to date.
Zack's increasingly over-the-top violent executions brought a sense of exhilaration that was difficult to put into words.
However, besides the diverse weapons and magic, Zack was also deeply moved by the game's story. God of War seemed to tell the adventure of a mortal god-slayer.
But within it, Zack felt there were many points worth pondering. For example, the separation of Kratos and his brother in the plot was mainly because Zeus learned of a prophecy that his reign as king of the gods would be overthrown by a tattooed Spartan warrior.
Kratos's brother was born with a tattoo, so he was taken away by the gods. However, to commemorate his brother, Kratos tattooed himself with the same mark.
In other words, Zeus's actions, while taking away one tattooed warrior, inadvertently created another.
And a more crucial point: Kratos was actually Zeus's son.
Of course, this fits well with Greek mythology, where incest and familial strife are common occurrences.
What truly made Zack think was Kratos himself.
Previously, Kratos exhibited extreme violence, yet he also had his weaknesses: his wife and daughter, his brother, his mother – these familial bonds.
Moreover, on his journey to break the blood oath with Ares, Kratos had a friend. These points all indicated that Kratos had emotions.
So the question arises: is Kratos's incredibly brutal side a part of his humanity or his divinity?
Of course, these thought-provoking questions flashed through Zack's mind in an instant, because upon entering the final chapter of God of War, Zack was completely stunned.
Zack had wondered before if the aesthetic of violence, when directed at the Olympian gods, would be further enhanced.
The answer was yes, and it was even more imaginative and awe-inspiring.
