Chapter 235: Hostile System
Chapter 235: Hostile System
Free Mission: Invader
Details: The world of Legend of the Empire has been invaded by a hostile system. Effective immediately, the world of Legend of the Empire will enter a sealed state. All players must eliminate the invader or preserve their own lives as much as possible.
Mission Reward: Universal Game World Item, Revival Gem
A hostile system?
Aside from the game system, there were other systems among the infinite story worlds?
Caelum thought about it carefully and found nothing strange about that.
The infinite story worlds were so vast. It was only natural for several systems to compete against one another.
Some story worlds with higher value would of course be more sought after.
The sealed state meant that the world of Legend of the Empire could currently be exited but not entered.
To prevent the hostile system from sending in more invaders, the game system could only seal this world.
In this state, every surviving player was extremely important to the system.
As long as all players had not died, the system could continue using them as anchors to lock onto this world.
By the same logic, the hostile system was using the invader as an anchor in an attempt to connect the world of Legend of the Empire to itself.
Once all players on Caelum’s side died, the game system would lose every anchor.
The world of Legend of the Empire would then be anchored by the hostile system, and control would be transferred.
The reverse was also true.
As long as every invader sent by the hostile system was killed, the hostile system would lose every anchor, causing its attempt to fail.
In that case, the world of Legend of the Empire would remain under the control of the game system.
In essence, the struggle over game worlds was a battle between players from two systems.
What mattered was the strength of both sides and the advantage of fighting on home ground.
This time, the world of Legend of the Empire was the game system’s home ground.
The hostile system had barely managed to secretly send down one player.
As long as Caelum and the others killed that hostile player, they could preserve the world of Legend of the Empire and complete the mission.
The mission was a free mission.
It had no mandatory conditions and no penalty for failure.
After all, the game system had always emphasized freedom.
It never forced players to complete missions.
Caelum liked that very much.
The conditions for completing the mission were clear at a glance.
Either Caelum personally killed the only hostile player sent by the hostile system, or he stayed alive and waited for someone else to kill them.
The reward was a Revival Gem that could be used in any game world.
In other words, it could resurrect the user once within a game world.
Its value was extremely high.
However, to Caelum, it was only better than nothing.
So far, he had never truly died and restarted inside a game world.
Additionally, all systems followed one iron law.
Players who descended into a game world through a system would always follow that game world’s mechanisms and settings.
In other words, the hostile system player who had just arrived in the world of Legend of the Empire was the same as Caelum and the others.
They all had to start from zero.
Caelum sighed.
"Finding one person in such a vast world is no simple matter."
"But I am free anyway. This is a good chance to go out and see the world."
If he managed to find the hostile player, he would simply cut them down.
If he could not find them, then he would slowly travel the world.
Caelum was still rather interested in this world.
He had always been swift and decisive.
Once he decided to travel the world, he bid farewell to the master the next day and prepared to set out alone.
When the disciples of the training hall heard that Caelum was leaving, they all came to see him off.
Cerys seemed a little downcast, but she still gathered herself and came to say goodbye.
The master held great expectations for Caelum.
He laughed boldly and said, "Haha, a man should set his sights on the wider world. Morven, I look forward to the day your name resounds across the world."
Caelum smiled in return.
"That is not certain."
The group stopped seeing him off.
Cerys pointed at the mountains ahead and said, "Go around those mountains, then follow the main road north for about fifty kilometers. You will reach Blackstone City."
"I understand. This is far enough."
Caelum stepped onto the road.
Under everyone’s surprised gazes, he drew Cloudrend and slowly raised it.
With his back to Cerys, he said, "You have always been curious about my strength, have you not? Watch carefully."
Cerys looked puzzled.
"What are you doing?"
Caelum said nothing.
Cloudrend fell in a single stroke.
In an instant, visible ripples surged violently through the air, then rapidly compressed together and formed an enormous slash.
A deep hum spread.
The air first twisted into silence.
Then a deafening roar erupted.
The terrifying slash flew forward at astonishing speed.
It cut straight through the mountains blocking the way and continued onward for several kilometers before finally vanishing.
The earth shook.
For a time, the ground trembled and the mountains roared.
When the dust settled and everything returned to calm, Cerys finally saw the scene before her clearly.
The several mountains that had blocked the path had been cleanly split in two.
The rugged mountain road had been pierced through completely by a single slash, forming a straight and open canyon.
One strike had split apart several mountains.
Caelum had changed the terrain itself through his strength alone.
Cerys’s view of the world suffered an impact unlike anything before.
That strike gave her an indescribable shock.
For a moment, it felt like a dream.
It was not just Cerys and the disciples of the training hall.
Even the master was badly startled and stared in disbelief.
This disciple of his seemed far too strong.
He murmured to himself.
"Grand Sword Master..."
Cloudrend returned to its sheath.
Caelum left them with only a back that seemed as vast as a mountain.
Looking up at him, everyone felt as though they were gazing at a peak too high to cross.
Just the sight of him brought an indescribable pressure.
"Cerys, see clearly the gap between you and the world."
"When you believe your strength is great enough, come before me and challenge me."
"Have you not always wanted to defeat me once?"
"I will be waiting."
Cerys’s breath caught.
Her gaze trembled.
The immense pressure nearly made it difficult to breathe.
She had never imagined Caelum could be this powerful.
The world was truly so vast.
Then, powerful excitement surged from within her heart and swept away the pressure.
She suddenly realized that a swordsman could actually become this strong.
Cerys’s hands stopped trembling.
Her unwillingness and stubbornness transformed into courage and motivation.
She shouted a vow toward Caelum.
"I always keep my word. I will catch up to you and challenge you one day. Just wait for me!"
From then on, Caelum’s slash left behind a vast canyon outside Hartstead, one that pierced through several mountains.
From that day forward, he became the legend of Hartstead.
