Gacha System Master
Chapter 50: Second Scenario
Chapter 50: Chapter 50: Second Scenario
After spending the last few days exploring the scenario alongside Brika, Victor couldn’t help thinking about how ridiculous it was that he hadn’t encountered a single participant other than the Wendigo.
His sense of smell hadn’t detected any other presences, let alone traces left behind by other participants.
So what the hell was going on in this scenario? Had the other participants simply appeared out of thin air the moment the Morning Star event was activated?
At first glance, it made no sense. However, considering the deities and the possible administrators behind this deadly game, it was no longer possible to trust one’s senses or even what one’s own eyes could see.
A prisoner of the uncertainty and mystery surrounding this game, Victor tightened his grip on the sword’s hilt.
’With more participants nearby, things are getting even more dangerous. Damn it, I don’t even know what to make of all this anymore.’
Victor continued deeper into the streets, where he encountered a Golden Bone Penitent in the middle of a large intersection surrounded by houses.
The creature’s putrid stench made him deeply uncomfortable, but by now, he was used to the smell, so he prepared for battle.
The specter didn’t hold back either. The moment it spotted Victor, it began chanting strange phrases, just like the other Penitents, while its magic manifested among the shadows surrounding it.
Victor considered using the flare right away, but he couldn’t afford to waste them, knowing how much damage they could inflict on these monsters. Instead, he slowly made his way toward the nearby alleys.
’I can’t kill that thing head-on. I’ll have to find a way to stab it in the back.’
A sphere of shadows formed in the Penitent’s palm, and it fired it just as Victor rushed into one of the alleys. The sphere struck the ground, shrouding the area in profound darkness.
Victor glanced at it out of the corner of his eye and shuddered as he imagined what would happen if that thing hit him. However, he quickly regained his composure in a rather unusual way.
’I was starting to wonder if this thing would actually work.’
The Fairy Tear was doing a pretty good job.
The Golden Bone Penitent raised its bony hand, once again reciting the phrases that supposedly summoned its magic. However, Victor took advantage of its relatively slow movements and darted into another alley to the side.
As expected, the Penitent followed him, but by the time it turned the corner, Victor was already gone. Confused, the specter stared into empty space, then looked behind itself and finally up at the sky, but found nothing.
However, there was one small detail the Penitent had overlooked. Some of the houses had windows facing the alleys.
This time, one of those windows was open. Victor had slipped through it, exited the house through the front door, and circled around the building until he reached the alley. Now, he was right behind his enemy.
[The god "Serpent That Bites Its Own Tail" applauds proudly.]
[The god "Fisher of Opportunities" admires your ability to seize opportunities.]
With the calmness of a lynx about to pounce on its prey, Victor rushed toward the Penitent and repeated the same move he’d used against the other specter: he leaped forward and drove his sword into its back.
The Golden Bone Penitent writhed in agony and shot upward toward the rooftops in a desperate attempt to shake Victor off. However, he stubbornly held on, gripping the creature with his legs to keep from falling.
They crashed against the rooftops as they flew, eventually plummeting onto one of the streets.
[Congratulations!]
[You have killed a Golden Bone Penitent (Event).]
[+100 Coins.]
[+1 Luck Value.]
[A reward will be granted to you.]
Victor didn’t even bother wondering what he would receive this time. He breathed heavily while lying on the ground beside the Penitent, but wrinkled his nose at having to endure its stench from such close range.
At the same time, the System window displayed his reward.
[You have obtained: (Skill) Ninja Silence.]
[Description: Greatly reduces the sound generated by your body’s movements.]
’Not a bad skill,’ Victor thought as he got to his feet. He brushed the dust off his clothes and reached into the System window to retrieve the skill orb. Then, he crushed it in his hand, absorbing whatever was hidden inside.
The next moment, he could feel that his body barely made any noise when he moved.
"I wish I could say that what I have right now would be enough to face that monster."
For the time being, he had no choice but to keep killing Golden Bone Penitents until he obtained something that could actually help him. On the other hand, he would also be farming Luck Value points and coins, both of which would be incredibly useful to him right now.

A few hours later, Victor was resting on one of the beds in a small house far from trouble. The truth was that he had passed out not long ago due to the excessive use of all his abilities.
He opened his eyes, feeling somewhat annoyed because his body felt like a sack of bones and pain. He had spent the last few hours hunting Golden Bone Penitents, but they were growing stronger and stronger due to the conditions imposed by the scenario.
Even fighting a single one of them was becoming difficult, so Victor could no longer keep going.
’Dead participants are showing up more frequently...’
Whenever he closed his eyes, he could see the corpses of a group of unknown adventurers, reminding him of the mystery surrounding this second scenario. Why had the other participants suddenly appeared out of nowhere? Did it have something to do with the scenario’s solitary nature?
At this point, none of that even mattered anymore. Brika was being held captive by that psychopath, and he had to do something before they both ended up dead.
He focused on reviewing what he had at the moment. Although the Penitents didn’t always drop items, he had still managed to obtain a large number of coins and Luck Value points.
