Chapter 349 -47: A Glorious Homecoming, Evil God Slayer 4
“From what the new recruits have reported, the inside of the canteen has most likely been infiltrated and contaminated by something.” Finch’s steady voice pulled Mo Ning from his memories back to reality.
Bet’s voice held a note of confusion. “The canteen has always been sealed. Logically, it should be difficult for any outside force to get in.”
Mo Ning fell silent for a moment before speaking in a low voice, “I think I have an idea why.”
The gazes of the two Arbiters instantly locked onto his face.
Mo Ning spoke quickly, laying out his deductions one by one.
“Before the two Dark Wizard moles were discovered, they ate here every day. They had plenty of time and opportunity to secretly leave a hidden mark in the canteen for tracking.
“A month ago, the academy placed the previous batch of new recruits and the current one under joint supervision. On the very first day, they clashed with me in this canteen. In front of everyone, I unraveled the hidden Maze Lock, temporarily opened the water wall, and pulled a fish from the lake outside.”
As he said this, his tone suddenly grew strange, and his expression held a rare hint of embarrassment.
“Perhaps that was when the Power of the Evil God sensed the tracking mark. It must have taken advantage of the instant the water wall opened to quietly seep in from the outside before falling into a brief slumber.
“Some days ago, that power likely awoke and began to silently contaminate every new recruit who came to eat. That’s probably the true source of all these strange events.”
When the two Arbiters heard this, the expressions on their faces were indescribably strange.
Finch couldn’t help but sigh. “I’ve heard the hidden assessments are absurdly difficult, many even at the level of a Second Level Apprentice. I never expected you to have this kind of ability.”
He paused, then accepted the deduction. “The Power of the Evil God has always been pervasive. The possibility of it seeping in then is indeed very high.”
Bet, meanwhile, was struggling to hold back a laugh. “It seems that being too good can sometimes lead to unexpected trouble.”
Mo Ning sighed, a bit resigned. “I didn’t expect things to turn out this way either.”
Finch consoled him, “It’s not your fault. The academy is the one truly responsible for this. They never should have let a follower of an Evil God through these doors in the first place.”
Bet chimed in with a joke at just the right moment. “I hope one day I, too, can make this kind of ‘Genius Level mistake’.”
Anyone could tell he didn’t really consider it a mistake at all. On the contrary, he saw it as an honor worth bragging about.
Mo Ning’s expression turned serious. “I once clashed head-on with the Will of the Evil God in a Goblin Tribe, so I’m not unfamiliar with the Power of the Evil God. Right now, I can faintly sense something watching us in secret.”
The expressions of both Arbiters changed at once.
Bet’s expression grew grim. “Looks like there really is a problem here.”
Finch said nothing, only giving a silent nod.
In truth, the shock they felt was far greater than their expressions let on, but neither of them voiced it.
As dignified Second Level Apprentices, for their Sensing Power to be less acute than that of a First Level Apprentice… it was the kind of thing that would be too embarrassing to admit.
Of course, Mo Ning hadn’t laid all his cards on the table.
He strongly suspected the true root of all this was from his last confrontation with the Will of the Evil God in a dream, when his Black Panther had devoured the dissipated Spiritual Power from the will.
The Black Panther was born from his Spiritual World and shared an inseparable, almost symbiotic bond with him.
It was this bond that had greatly enhanced his ability to sense similar powers, making him sensitive to the aura of an Evil God to an almost intuitive degree.
In the presence of a true genius, Bet had no intention of putting on airs. He asked directly, “Mo Ning, what do you suggest?”
Mo Ning didn’t answer directly. “I can feel the malice around us swelling rapidly.”
The two Arbiters reacted with astonishing speed, almost instinctively.
Their hands moved in unison. Casting Gloves instantly appeared on their hands, and Magic Wands were gripped tightly in their palms. Like two hounds that had scented danger, they fell into perfect combat stances.
Mo Ning continued without pause, “There’s most likely an Evil God Mark hidden in the canteen. That thing is the source of all the contamination, and I suspect it’s already managed to break down the canteen’s protective Witchcraft to some degree…”
His gaze shifted, landing on the endlessly rippling lake outside the water wall. “It might even have the power to let things from the lake… in here.”
The moment he said this, the two Arbiters felt a chill shoot from the soles of their feet straight to their scalps.
They had assumed this was just a simple, routine inspection. Who would have thought they would find themselves in such a perilous situation?
Any idiot knew that whatever the Power of the Evil God let in would be no pushover.
Bet stared warily at the water wall and muttered with relief, “Mo Ning, it’s a good thing you’re here. Otherwise, I’m afraid I might have actually died here without ever knowing why.”
Finch’s gaze swept across the canteen like a blade as he nodded slightly. “I agree.”
Just imagine if the Evil God Mark had suddenly let something in from outside while they were inspecting the canteen. Caught off guard, they might very well have lost their lives amidst this beautiful, watery light.
Mo Ning’s gaze shifted from Finch to Bet, his eyes conveying a signal that couldn’t have been any clearer.
It was time to fight.
Without a moment’s hesitation, the two Arbiters gave a firm, simultaneous nod.
With their experience, they knew that delaying any longer would only make the situation worse, perhaps irreversibly so.
Arbiters never feared a fight.
With a single thought, Mo Ning decisively activated the Thunder Shadow Leopard Fang Pendant on his chest.
A powerful intuition surged through his veins. After its transformation, the Leopard Shadow possessed a significant power to counter the Power of the Evil God.
This was his most powerful trump card for the coming battle and the key to dealing with the Evil God Mark.
The next moment.
A Black Panther wreathed in dazzling Thunderbolt leaped from Mo Ning’s chest.
At almost the same instant.
Beyond the canteen’s surrounding water walls, a colossal shadow suddenly materialized in the gloomy depths of the lake.
The shadow was breathtakingly massive, with a dozen thick, python-like tentacles writhing madly in the dark currents.
CRACK—CRACK—
A piercing crack echoed through the air.
The surface of the seemingly indestructible water wall was suddenly covered in a web of thick cracks in the blink of an eye.
Raging torrents of water burst violently from the fissures, letting out a beast-like roar.
SPLASH—
A shower of water sprayed in all directions, cold droplets flying into every corner like an apocalyptic downpour.
