Chapter 284: Chapter 29: The Appearance of an Evil God Priest, Mo Ning’s Overwhelming Attack (2)
Mo Ning smiled and said, "Flower, take this little one back to the cabin."
"Understood!"
The Artificial Soul replied cheerfully.
Blades of grass, as if plucked by an invisible hand, were swiftly woven into a net, wrapping up the lynx cub.
The metal dragonfly flew over, two metal claws silently extending from its abdomen to grab the net. It then swiftly flew away, dangling the pouch beneath it.
Mo Ning watched the metal dragonfly disappear into the distance, resolving to himself, ’In a few days, once my plug-in generates the next wisp of the Light of Knowledge, I have to analyze this thing.’
A Flying Puppet designed by a Third Level Wizard was naturally far superior to a Powered Triangular Wing designed by a First Level Wizard.
The knowledge acquired from the metal dragonfly could significantly improve the Magic Pattern Drone’s performance, giving it much greater combat power.
「One minute later.」
The metal dragonfly returned.
Flower reported cheerfully, "The cub is all settled in. It’s woken up, and I prepared some puréed meat porridge for it. The little fellow is gobbling it down."
Mo Ning gave a slight nod. "You’ve done well. Take me to the Screaming Goblin Tribe."
Flower was very attentive. With the Artificial Soul looking after the cub, he could set his mind at ease.
After flying through the forest for a time, faint ripples appeared on the metal dragonfly’s surface, and it dissolved into a hazy, indistinct shadow.
Mo Ning knew instinctively—they were approaching the Screaming Goblins’ lair.
SCREEE—SCREEE—
The piercing howls, though greatly dampened by the forest, still made his eardrums throb uncomfortably.
A slight movement of Mo Ning’s left hand sent a surge of Magic Power from his fingertips, applying a subtle vibration frequency to the air beside his ears.
After passing through the "Vibration Field," the howls immediately became much softer.
This was a little trick for "Active Noise Cancellation."
The active noise-canceling headphones from his past life worked on this same principle.
Two months ago, Mo Ning had planned to write a paper on this principle and use it to develop a new type of Trick.
But after searching the research paper database, he found that Wizards had already researched the topic in great depth. There were at least ten similar Tricks, two of which were even specifically designed to counter Screaming Goblins.
He had to abandon the idea, much to his regret.
However, as someone who specialized in "fishing" for Black Tower Points, how could he possibly return empty-handed?
He instead wrote a journal article describing a method of using the "Vibration" Trick to create a noise-canceling spectrum, and from another angle, he discussed the significance of Active Noise Cancellation to Divination.
Although this method was far more complex than a dedicated noise-canceling Trick—no ordinary Apprentice would learn it unless they’d been kicked in the head by a donkey—the approach described in the paper was right up the Divination Wizards’ alley.
And so, the paper was successfully published in the second section of *Shine*, ultimately earning him a total of 200 Black Tower Points.
Mo Ning walked on for another ten-odd seconds before his pupils suddenly constricted.
With his Insightful Secret Eye, he clearly saw two goblins covered in green leaves, crouching in the crowns of two birch trees over thirty meters away.
These were obviously the Monster Tribe’s sentries.
Their camouflage was far from clumsy; in fact, it was incredibly lifelike. Standing on the branches, they looked exactly like two leafy boughs.
An ordinary Apprentice glancing past would likely miss them completely, which would inevitably lead to being spotted by the Screaming Goblins, and possibly even ambushed by the Monster Tribe.
It was only thanks to the powerful perception of his Insightful Secret Eye that he noticed something was amiss.
All at once, Mo Ning shed any lingering underestimation he had for the Screaming Goblins.
The goblin race once had over a thousand subspecies. Most have gradually disappeared into the river of time, while the Screaming Goblins are still alive and kicking to this day.
They survived not merely due to their formidable reproductive ability, but also due to their abundant caution and a simple, yet undeniable, cunning.
He engraved a warning deep in his heart, one to be remembered always: ’Never underestimate an enemy or monster, no matter how weak they may seem.’
Mo Ning stopped just in time behind a birch tree.
The metal dragonfly, which had been moving forward, immediately halted, hovering in place.
A hint of praise arose in Flower’s stream of consciousness: ’Caution is a precious gem—it seems Master already holds it in his hand.’
Only the Artificial Soul knew that her offer to lead the way was, in fact, a small test arranged at Lord Martin’s command.
If Mo Ning had swaggered forward, treating this place like his own backyard, then according to the evaluation criteria, he would have been rated as "reckless and impulsive."
Flower soon saw the Leopard Shadow change direction. It began to circle the goblin lair, slowly drawing closer.
She immediately understood. ’Master has chosen the safest, most reliable method: first survey the lair’s periphery, then gradually probe the interior.’
This was the mark of a truly intelligent person.
Anyone who, confident in their powerful Witchcraft Items, charges headfirst into the heart of a monster’s nest like a brainless fool is bound to die a horrible death sooner or later.
Mo Ning stood in place for a full five minutes, using the Leopard Shadow’s vision to remotely circle the area around the goblin lair several times.
Far from letting his guard down, his expression became even more grave.
’Evil God Worshipers?’
The thought popped into Mo Ning’s head as he used the Leopard Shadow’s eyes to observe from afar a patch of exceptionally dark and oppressive Spiritual Light—or rather, an evil aura.
