Chapter 270: Chapter 24: The Amazing Phantom Wing Race, This Is ’Mo Ning Speed

The implication was clear—no answer was needed.

The young man simply nodded calmly and agreed.

「Just five days later.」

At the next regular meeting, the young man threw down a manuscript of over two hundred pages in front of everyone. "The results are in," he said, his tone perfectly flat.

Everyone was stunned.

The apprentices in the experimental group took the manuscript and spent nearly ten days verifying the calculations before they could confirm that the results were completely correct.

The moment the verification was complete, they gained a true appreciation for the word "genius."

If it weren’t for this young man, the experimental group would have been lucky to finish the project on time, let alone five months ahead of schedule.

Judging by the way Nasha’s cheeks were flushed with excitement, she must have been the center of attention at yesterday’s meeting.

At that moment, Nasha said with a beaming smile, "There are two main items on the agenda for today’s meeting. First, our group’s monthly bonus has been distributed. It’s a total of 3,000 Black Tower Points."

As soon as she announced the number, the apprentices’ breathing quickened in unison.

Previously, excluding the monthly stipend for participating in the project, an additional bonus of 800 points was considered quite good.

For it to soar to 3,000 points this time was simply outrageous.

However, saving so much time on a sub-project for a Second Level Witchcraft research initiative made such a reward seem reasonable.

Mo Ning calmly observed his colleagues’ expressions, feeling a bit wistful.

He didn’t think 3,000 points was a lot—especially since after being divided among so many people, each person’s share would be paltry.

He was just struck by how different reality was from what he had read in books.

Many an apprentice’s journal mentioned their immense envy for those qualified to enter the various Witchcraft Laboratories, as they could supposedly earn a steady stream of Black Tower Points.

This had inadvertently given Mo Ning the impression that laboratory apprentices were never short on money.

But his experiences over the past few months had completely shattered this preconceived notion. ’A mere 3,000-point bonus has over a dozen apprentices this excited? Does that really look like they aren’t short on Black Tower Points?’

Of course not.

Nasha’s expression grew a bit more serious. "Now, I will announce the bonus distribution."

She called out the first name: "Mo Ning, one thousand Black Tower Points."

A wave of envious gazes instantly fell upon Mo Ning, yet no one expressed any dissatisfaction.

Everyone knew that if he hadn’t solved one difficult problem after another, none of them would have received such a large bonus.

Nasha continued reading, "Nasha, 350 Black Tower Points; Sacco, 250 Black Tower Points; Bran, 240 Black Tower Points..."

As the bonuses were announced, the meeting room filled with joy.

Mo Ning smiled as well.

It wasn’t that he was particularly happy, but he knew that putting on an unimpressed expression in this situation might come across as mocking his colleagues.

’Even a genius has to fit in to some extent.’

After the palpable joy had lingered in the room for a few seconds, Nasha moved on to the second topic.

"Master Yi Lin has assigned us the next phase of our research. It’s a Divination problem concerning ’Magic Field clusters,’ and it’s much more difficult than the last one..."

A long-winded explanation followed.

Mo Ning listened with rapt attention.

From his perspective, participating in a research project on Second Level Witchcraft was far more important than a 1,000-point bonus in Black Tower Points.

From the sub-projects assigned by the Second Level Wizard Yi Lin, he could get a glimpse into the Female Wizard’s research methodology.

Even though it was just a glimpse, it gave him a great deal of inspiration.

Furthermore, participating in solving so many Divination problems would continuously improve his Divination Ability and greatly enrich his knowledge base.

Perhaps one day, a piece of knowledge he absorbed today would ignite an astonishing spark, helping him overcome a critical Witchcraft problem.

「An hour later.」

Nasha finally concluded her lengthy explanation. "That’s the general overview of this sub-project. Please give your all to completing your assigned tasks."

She immediately followed up by announcing the deadline. "Master Yi Lin has given us eight months. For every month we finish ahead of schedule, the project bonus will increase by an additional 1,000 Black Tower Points."

The apprentices’ eyes lit up in unison, then turned in unison to look at Mo Ning.

Everyone understood that how far ahead of schedule they could finish depended entirely on the performance of the young genius before them.

Mo Ning lived up to their expectations, smiling as he said, "Personally, I don’t think finishing three months early will be a problem."

"Oh, dear Mo Ning, you’re the most adorable person I know! I just want to give you a big kiss."

A Second-Level Female Apprentice named Kashan couldn’t help but exclaim.

She immediately realized her words had been a bit inappropriate and quickly added, "If you run into any trouble outside of the research project, I’m willing to do everything in my power to help you."

Nasha’s gentle gaze instantly turned as sharp as a blade, only returning to normal a moment later.

She hated hearing words that bordered on flirtation.

’Besides, is it your place to solve Mo Ning’s problems, Kashan?’

Kashan seemed to sense the subtle shift in the atmosphere. She shrank back slightly and gave a dry laugh. "Of course, I’m sure everyone here would be willing to help you with any trouble."

Nasha gave a slight nod.

’She much preferred that phrasing.’

Mo Ning thanked them politely. "Thank you!"

Not long after, the meeting ended.

Mo Ning, however, did not return to his quarters.

He walked to a corner of the Secret Hall and entered another Secret Gate.

This was an area inaccessible to ordinary laboratory members, but Second Level Wizard Yi Lin had granted him special access.

The area beyond the door was shrouded in darkness. A deep red rose floated ahead, rotating slowly in mid-air. Wisps of blood-red light wreathed around it, exuding an indescribable, mysterious aura.

Mo Ning’s heart began to POUND. He walked forward at a steady pace. As if sensing his approach, the rose abruptly stopped rotating.

Mo Ning stopped and said softly, "I wish to retrieve the Soul Spirit Water."

The Soul Spirit Water was the very gift that Yi Lin had given him after the second general assessment.

In exchange, he had promised to serve the laboratory for thirty years.

The item possessed an incredible power that even Official Wizards coveted: consuming it could increase one’s Spiritual Strength by 1 to 1.5 points.

Now, he was finally about to see it with his own eyes.
