Chapter 263: Chapter 22: Super Magic Spell Slots, Launched Another Satellite
During an assessment, the Witch Spirit is the Auditor.
During a demonstration, the Witch Spirit is the Viewer.
Anyone with the slightest understanding of the assessments knew that the Witch Spirit’s wording was always cautious and precise. Every word carried a specific meaning.
[This assessment is over!]
The Witch Spirit declared the assessment over precisely at the 60-second mark.
At Mo Ning’s thought, the Magic Pen instantly became illusory and then rapidly dissipated.
He folded the scale pattern paper and placed it on the wooden table beside the sofa, awaiting the evaluation for his first Apprentice assessment.
And—the rewards.
To his surprise, a full ten seconds passed, yet the Witch Spirit still hadn’t announced the results.
Mo Ning, however, broke into a faint smile.
’He knew exactly what was happening. Completing the assessment on just his second day as an Apprentice had apparently caused quite a stir again. The Witch Spirit’s database had likely never encountered such a situation. The standard evaluation methods were insufficient to produce an objective and fair result, so the Witch Spirit must have been following protocol to request instructions on how to proceed.’
Mo Ning thought with amusement, ’Looks like I’ve accidentally made big waves again.’
He wasn’t in a hurry. He quietly waited for the Witch Spirit to complete its inquiry.
Another ten seconds passed.
A stream of information finally came from the Magic Ring.
[Reward Notification: Serial Number 7-118-256, Mo Ning.]
[You have demonstrated extraordinary ability in your first Apprentice assessment, "Learning a First Level Zero Witchcraft," setting a historic record. You have been awarded 500 Black Tower Points.]
A hint of a smile flashed in Mo Ning’s eyes.
’Just as I thought. The fifth-tier "historic record" evaluation.’
As far as he knew, the evaluation system for Apprentice assessments was the same as the one for newcomers, only the rewards were greater.
The first tier, "Ordinary," offered no reward, while the second tier, "Acceptable," was the first to grant any.
For minor assessments, a newcomer’s "Acceptable" rating was typically worth under 20 points.
The rewards for Apprentices were more than double that, reaching 50 points. The fourth tier was worth around 200 points, while the fifth tier jumped directly to 500 points—an absolute fortune.
[Bonus Reward 1: By leveraging your extraordinary Divination Ability, you have incredibly pushed past your spiritual limits to complete a spectacular casting far beyond your level. You will receive an additional 500 Black Tower Points.]
[Bonus Reward 2: You will receive the Witchcraft Item, the "Pen of Contemplation." Activating this item enables automatic writing. Sealed within this item is a Knowledge Resentful Spirit. By passing the Resentful Spirit’s trial of knowledge, you can cast the "Curse of Knowledge."]
[Please be aware: The Resentful Spirit’s trial of knowledge carries a certain degree of risk. Failure to pass has a small chance of permanently reducing your Spiritual Strength by 0.1 to 0.2 points. Please proceed with caution.]
[Curse of Knowledge: Targets with a Spiritual Strength below 15 will be forced to contemplate difficult Divination problems. Targets with a Spiritual Strength below 30 have a chance of contemplating difficult Divination problems. The Curse of Knowledge can only be cast once per day.]
[The related Witchcraft Item will be delivered to the secure locker in your residence within five minutes.]
When Mo Ning saw the peculiar effect of the Pen of Contemplation, he couldn’t suppress a smile.
’What a great item!’
’As long as I can pass the trial, it’s basically a Witchcraft Item with unlimited uses. From that angle, it’s not the least bit inferior to an item of Excellent Quality.’
’And knowledge is my greatest strength. I’m completely confident I can pass the Knowledge Resentful Spirit’s trial.’
「Five minutes later.」
Mo Ning saw the Pen of Contemplation.
It looked just like a common Ink Tube Pen, though its surface bore some scuff marks, making it seem a bit old.
As he held the pen, he got the strange feeling that he was being watched.
The sensation was extremely faint, however; someone less perceptive would never have noticed it.
This was, without a doubt, the Knowledge Resentful Spirit prying.
Mo Ning didn’t rush to take the trial.
After working hard for a full day and night, on top of completing an assessment, he was genuinely tired.
He walked into the kitchen, his gaze falling upon a small blackboard on the wall. On it were lines of Secret Spirit Text, written in a script that looked like chalk.
It was today’s cafeteria menu for Dormitory Area 43. It listed over a dozen dishes, a much richer selection than the newcomer’s cafeteria.
The menu changed daily, and the contents of the blackboard were updated along with it.
This was a perk exclusive to the residences in the Upper District. Apprentices in the middle and lower districts had to go to the cafeteria in person if they wanted to see the menu.
Unlike the newcomer’s cafeteria, the Apprentice cafeteria was open 24/7, with food available even at three or four in the morning.
This was a necessity, given the lifestyle of the Apprentices.
Too many people, like Mo Ning, would work day and night once they started researching a problem, making it impossible for them to eat at regular meal times.
Beyond that, the Apprentice cafeteria also offered a rather thoughtful service: food delivery.
Mo Ning reached out and pressed his hand to the menu. His Spiritual Power touched the Spirit Seal within, sending a message: "Delivery needed for Residence 1-68."
He carefully ordered a few items: "One order of roasted Gurulu Beast knuckle, a bowl of Carrot Soup, and three slices of white bread."
The fact that the cafeteria now served white bread instead of black gave him a little something to look forward to.
The delivery service was completely free for Upper District residences. Those in the middle and lower districts, however, had to pay a monthly delivery fee of 3 Black Tower Points. They could place an order by sending a message to the cafeteria via their mailbox.
Since those Apprentices couldn’t see the menu, they were unable to place specific orders, so the food they received was completely random.
Just three minutes later.
DING—
The notification chime on his mailbox rang.
The delivery was much faster than he had expected.
Mo Ning took out the wooden food container, picked up a slice of white bread, and took a bite. His heart instantly sank.
He complained inwardly, ’Of course. I should have known better than to have any expectations for the academy’s cafeteria.’
