Chapter 259: Chapter 21: It’s Great to Be a Genius

Once his shock subsided, Mo Ning began to go through the gifts piled up in his mailbox, one by one.

The largest category, numbering over thirty items, came from the other newcomers in his group.

These gifts were usually signed by three to five people, and their value was typically between 30 and 40 Black Tower Points.

Of course, this meant that several people had likely pooled their money to buy them.

Considering how newcomers had to stretch every Black Tower Point they had, these were truly significant gifts.

Furthermore, all the gifts were extremely practical. There wasn’t a single ostentatious or useless item among them; he would be able to use them all eventually.

This confirmed one thing for Mo Ning. ’It seems I truly won over this class of newcomers during the battle in the underground mine assessment.’

Looking back, when had such a thing ever happened before? A newcomer gets promoted, and the others all splurge on gifts for them?

Never!

He was certain that once this group of newcomers became Apprentices, he could easily form a team of them with a single call.

Only Anya, Reina, and Princess Phoebe had sent gifts individually.

Princess Phoebe’s gift, in particular, astonished even Mo Ning.

It was a Soul-Calming Ear Stud, an item capable of resisting curses.

Witchcraft Items shaped like ear studs were very common in the Wizard World and were worn by men and women alike.

Wearing such an ear stud didn’t require a piercing; Magic Power allowed it to pass through the earlobe without causing any harm.

There were very few anti-curse Witchcraft Items in Dawa’s Grocery List, so he estimated this item was worth no less than 500 Black Tower Points.

It just went to show that Princess Phoebe, with her royal background, was as wealthy as they came.

Mo Ning toyed with the ear stud, which was as exquisite as a work of art, and felt the weight of the princess’s gesture.

In addition, several Apprentice Tamers from the No. 35 Biological Taming Center—Vincent, Rock, and a few other Apprentices he knew—had also sent gifts worth around 30 Black Tower Points.

They weren’t expensive, but they were respectable and perfectly appropriate for a newly promoted Apprentice.

His dozen or so colleagues from the Deep Red Rose Witchcraft Laboratory had also sent gifts, all without exception. Though they were in the same research group, he hadn’t met them often. Their gifts were generally valued at around 50 Black Tower Points.

He understood, of course, that while some of his colleagues were trying to get on his good side due to his reputation as a genius, most were doing so because of Second Level Wizard Yi Lin’s favorable attitude toward him.

The one exception was Nasha, a Third Level Female Apprentice, who had sent a Magic Potion worth 150 Black Tower Points.

Mo Ning gazed at the bottle of Magic Power Fluctuation Potion, which could enhance the power of his Witchcraft and shorten his Casting Time, and a faint smile touched his lips.

He interacted with Nasha more than most in the laboratory, so he knew a little about the "Sharp-Horned Whip Demon." For the past few years, she had been desperately trying to increase her Spiritual Strength, so her finances were always tight.

He could easily imagine that Miss Whip Demon must have sent this Magic Potion over while gritting her teeth through the pain of such a costly sacrifice.

What was somewhat surprising, yet also expected, was that the renowned "Rose Judge," Yi Lin, had also sent a gift.

It was a rather valuable Rose Badge called the Magic Mirror Rose.

[Effect: When activated, releases the Level Zero Witchcraft "Magic Mirror Shield." It offers extremely strong protection against physical and Elemental Attacks and can reflect a portion of Elemental Attacks (reflection ratio between 15% and 18%).]

[Requirements: 2 points of Spiritual Strength, 50 points of Magic Pool Capacity.]

[Quality: Excellent (Uses remaining: 278)]

Mo Ning drew in a sharp breath.

Among Level Zero Witchcraft, Magic Mirror Shield was recognized as one of the top five Magic Shields in terms of defensive power, and its ability to reflect Elemental Attacks was its most potent Effect.

Although its Effect was highly coveted, its Divination Model was also notoriously complex. It was said to require over twenty Spirit Seals, a feat most Third Level Apprentices found difficult to master.

To say nothing of the fact that this was an Excellent Quality Witchcraft Item. With 278 uses, it surpassed most items of the same Quality, making it the best of the best.

He mentally estimated that this Rose Badge was worth at least 1,500 Black Tower Points, and that people would be clamoring to buy it for 2,000.

It had to be said, the generosity of a Second Level Female Wizard was staggering.

Mo Ning couldn’t help but mutter under his breath, ’Praise be to Lady Yi Lin!’

He quietly calculated the total value of the gifts and was struck by the peculiar feeling that ’I’ve struck it rich again.’

Although most of the gifts weren’t individually valuable, the sheer quantity added up. A conservative estimate put the total at over 4,500 Black Tower Points.

Mo Ning sighed inwardly. ’It feels good to be a genius!’

The gifts, which filled nearly half of his residence’s mailbox, were essentially a perk of having the "genius" title.

If he weren’t a genius, who would be willing to spend so many Black Tower Points on him?

Of course, as a genius, he wasn’t expected to reciprocate.

The Wizard World revered the strong; there was no custom of reciprocating gifts.

Mo Ning put all the gifts away, walked into his study, and once again took out the grocery list. He silently intoned, "Open the Mirror Image Mysteries Hall."

The moment he spoke, the power of Witchcraft instantly reshaped the world before his eyes.

A profound darkness surged in like a tide, instantly swallowing everything in his luxurious residence, along with the vast forest outside the window.

A statue, seemingly carved from the finest Obsidian, slowly emerged from the darkness. It held a Stone Inscribed Scripture in its hands, its face obscured by the shadow of its hood.

A stream of information followed.

[Your Sub-zero Level Witchcraft listed in the Mysteries Hall—Illusion Flash, Gale Needle, Flame Bird, and Gust—have earned a total of 948 Black Tower Points to date.]
