Chapter 246: Chapter 17: Breaking the Academy’s Historic Record, Bloodline Potion

Guided by two Heavy Shield Hands, Carter, a recruit from the 117th batch, wound his way through a complex network of passages.

A fork appeared every ten meters or so, and the walls on both sides were riddled with small holes about a meter high—narrow tunnels dug by monsters.

Black scales were scattered everywhere on the ground, along with pitted marks of corrosion.

Carter identified it with a single glance—this was a Poison Goblin nest.

He knew that among the many goblin subspecies, this was a particularly tough one to deal with.

It was said they were the product of Ancient Wizards forcibly infusing the abilities of some venomous snake into the goblin bloodline.

Their bodies were covered in hard scales, a natural suit of full-body armor.

Their mouths could open to astonishing angles, shooting out poison like arrows. They could also atomize the poison, forming a lingering toxic mist.

Because of this, even species with greater individual combat strength, like the Shadow Werewolves, would not provoke Poison Goblins lightly in the underworld.

A piece of wisdom passed down among the previous batch of recruits was to run as fast as you could if you encountered a Poison Goblin Tribe.

The new recruits lacked powerful protective Witchcraft. Even a drop of the poison would be toxic, and inhaling even a little of the mist was far more trouble.

Carter simply couldn’t imagine how the Battle Banner Legion had conquered this Poison Goblin nest with its complex terrain.

He asked himself honestly: ’If I were leading a team of recruits of the same size, we’d probably have to suffer a number of deaths and injuries to achieve this.’

Ultimately, he couldn’t contain his curiosity and asked, "Sirs, may I ask what tactics the Battle Banner Legion used to destroy this tribe?"

One of the burly recruits answered in a deliberately casual tone:

"It wasn’t a very complex tactic. First, we sent an elite sharpshooter squad to pick off a batch of Poison Goblins. Once the tribe’s core fighting force gathered, we faked a retreat to lure them out.

"Then, the Legion Commander led a frontal assault and crushed them with ease."

Carter nodded slightly.

’I heard that Legion Commander Mo Ning is incredibly strong, so using a tactic like this makes sense.’

He then asked, "What about casualties?"

By his estimation, given the cavern’s complex terrain, it wouldn’t have been surprising for the Battle Banner Legion to have lost three or four members.

Especially the squad responsible for luring the enemy—it would have been normal for them to lose half their number.

The burly recruit retorted, "With the Legion being so strong, how could there be any casualties?"

The other recruit couldn’t help but chime in, "We didn’t even have anyone injured."

Carter let out a soft "Huh?" his face a mask of disbelief.

The burly recruit glanced at him, his tone implying, ’You really don’t know anything, do you?’

"When the Legion faced the Poison Goblins head-on, Legion Commander Mo Ning moved in a flash, charged right into the goblin horde, and killed over a hundred of them in a single exchange."

Carter was completely stunned.

’The Poison Goblins’ defenses aren’t weak. Killing over a hundred in one blow? Is that even possible?’

He didn’t believe it, but he was wise enough not to voice his doubts.

The three of them rounded another bend and came upon a relatively spacious stone chamber. Carter took one look, and his mind was hit with an unprecedented shock.

Half of the chamber’s floor was completely covered in Spiritual Materials.

Many recruits, most of them female, were bustling about, sorting the materials and packing them into Flexible Bags.

In a corner of the chamber, hundreds of already-filled Flexible Bags were piled high. The scene instantly shattered Carter’s perception of reality.

’Mystery above!’

’Just how many mine monsters did the Battle Banner Legion kill to get this many Spiritual Materials?’

Carter wanted to ask, but a subtle sense of pride made him swallow his words.

「One minute later.」

The recruit from the previous batch, who was on the verge of condensing his Spirit Ring, finally met Mo Ning.

Carter first expressed his gratitude, "We are eternally grateful that the Legion returned the remains of our fallen comrades."

He then formally stated his purpose: "I believe this is a great opportunity for reconciliation. Perhaps the recruits from our two batches can coexist peacefully instead of being at each other’s throats all day."

Mo Ning offered a faint smile. "Of course. I think that’s an excellent idea as well."

He could, of course, tell that Carter was here as a representative of the previous batch, specifically to "back down."

The overwhelming power displayed by the Legion had been a real eye-opener for the previous batch of recruits.

Coupled with the bloody lesson from the group that had been tragically killed by the Shadow Werewolves, they had finally realized that if the two sides continued their opposition, they would be the only ones to suffer.

Anya, her pretty face stern, interjected from the side, "We agree to reconcile, but Kadi must pay the price."

Kadi was the bearded recruit who had spoken rudely to Mo Ning in the cafeteria last time, and the Noble Lady had been holding a grudge about it ever since.

Carter was very forthright, clearly showing they had already discussed this internally. "Kadi is indeed a detestable fellow. If the Battle Banner Legion wants to teach him a lesson, we absolutely will not interfere."

Anya nodded gracefully and said no more.

A backroom deal was thus struck, and the unlucky Kadi was sold out without a shred of mercy.

Having achieved his goal, Carter politely took his leave.

Anya soon found an excuse to go on patrol and left the stone chamber.

This was, of course, just an excuse.

The Noble Lady was planning to do some "dirty work," and she felt there was no need for Mo Ning to know about it.

Carter’s promise of "will not interfere" also carried a hidden meaning: they were willing to cooperate.

But during the assessment, such things could not be said outright, or it would surely violate the academy’s rules.
