Chapter 483: Chapter 241: Send Your Family to China

"Boss, are you serious? My kids can really go to your country?" Ivan asked, grabbing Su Chen’s arm in excitement.

Su Chen was taken aback by Ivan’s reaction. He hadn’t expected him to get so worked up.

A slight twinge of pain in his arm snapped Su Chen back to his senses. He smiled and nodded. "Mhm. As long as you’re willing, I’ll arrange for a house and school. I can even set it up in places like the Imperial Capital or Shanghai."

"I’m willing... I’m willing!" Ivan nodded vigorously.

After Ivan’s explanation, Su Chen finally understood why he was so excited.

There were two simple reasons.

First, of course, was his desire to latch on to Su Chen. Whether it was the power Su Chen displayed while interrogating the Mel brothers or his ability to sort out the mining operation in just ten days, Ivan understood that his boss was no simple man. This was also why he hadn’t felt the slightest bit of greed upon learning about the Tsar’s treasure.

Ivan was no fool—otherwise, why would his patrol team hang on his every word? Even if he did get his hands on the Tsar’s treasure, it would be useless. With his limited network and resources, he’d be dead by the next day if word got out that he possessed it.

As long as he held on tight to Su Chen, his future was bound to be bright. Why risk it all for an uncertain gamble?

’A man’s worth lies in knowing his own limits.’ This was a motto Ivan had always lived by.

As for the second reason, he wanted his children to have every chance at success. While the Russian education system emphasized practical skills, it paled in comparison to the resources available in Huaxia.

Besides, with Su Chen pulling the strings, they were guaranteed a spot in a good school. This would be a huge help for his son and daughter’s futures, and it would also strengthen his relationship with Su Chen.

"Alright. Once this is all over, I’ll make the arrangements. You can also ask your men if any of them are interested." The smile on Su Chen’s face grew even wider.

’He had gotten the answer he wanted, and this would also be a good way to vet Ivan’s men.’

’Su Chen certainly wasn’t going to stay at Lake Baikal for long. The mining operation would eventually need a local to run it, and Ivan was naturally the best candidate. Once they returned, Su Chen would have him study under Li Li.’

"Yes, Boss! I’ll thank you on their behalf!" Ivan gave Su Chen a bow, then walked jubilantly toward the patrol members who were cooking dinner.

A moment later, several joyous cheers rang out.

After a hearty outdoor dinner, they left one patrolman to guard the vehicles. The rest grabbed food, water, weapons, and several large bundles of burlap sacks, then headed into the mountains.

Their progress was stop-and-go, mainly because Chen Fei needed to pinpoint their exact location. It took a great deal of effort to find the right path.

After all, it was already dark, and they were deep in the old mountain forest. If Chen Fei hadn’t left marks on the trees on his way out, they would have had to wait until dawn to go in.

The journey of a few kilometers took the group nearly two hours.

Just as they entered a fissure in the mountain, two slightly hoarse voices called out from either side. "Stop! Don’t move!"

Three figures emerged from behind two large boulders, surrounding the group.

Before Su Chen and his party could react, three flashlight beams swept over them.

"Mr. Su?" The man holding the flashlight called out in surprise when he clearly saw it was Su Chen, Chen Fei, and the others.

"It’s me." To be honest, Su Chen had been given quite a scare. He’d thought they had run into hostiles.

Even Ivan and his men, who were following behind, let out a long sigh of relief. They hadn’t expected to run into their own people like this. Many of them had already reached for their weapons, preparing for a life-or-death fight.

It turned out to be friendly forces. The sudden shift was so abrupt that the patrolmen still hadn’t fully recovered from the shock.

Chen Fei, who was standing in front of Su Chen, shone his flashlight on the speaker and saw it was Lin Tian, one-half of the treasure hunting team’s "Heaven and Earth" duo.

"You guys scared the hell out of us! There was almost friendly fire!" Chen Fei said, annoyed.

Chen Fei’s and the Xuan-Huang duo’s reactions had been lightning-fast. The instant Lin Tian’s group appeared, they had drawn their weapons.

"Ahem... I didn’t expect you to come in person, Mr. Su, especially in this pitch-black darkness!" Lin Tian felt a wave of residual fear. ’If a firefight had broken out, Su Chen would have been riddled with bullets.’

Su Chen had no intention of blaming Lin Tian’s group. If anything was to blame, it was the faulty communicators that prevented them from coordinating in time.

"Where are the others?" Su Chen looked at Lin Tian and asked.

"They’re all down below, Mr. Su." With that, Lin Tian led Su Chen and his party toward the mouth of the fissure.

After a series of twists and turns, they finally stopped. Just as Su Chen was about to ask where the fissure was, he saw Lin Tian and his two companions squatting on the ground and fiddling with something. A moment later, a hole about three meters wide appeared before their eyes.

Su Chen hadn’t expected them to have camouflaged the entrance. You wouldn’t even notice it if you weren’t looking carefully.

Shining a light into the hole, Su Chen saw that the fissure wasn’t a vertical drop as he had imagined. Instead, it was a slope of about forty or fifty degrees, looking as though it had been carved out by water. The ground was a mess of jagged, protruding rocks, which would make the descent incredibly difficult.
