Chapter 439: Chapter 226: To Wear the Crown, One Must Bear Its Weight
"Boss, I’ll head back to Shanghai today to see what’s going on with this creative park!" Pei Rang said, putting the documents into a manila envelope and posturing as if he were about to get up and leave.
Su Chen quickly stopped him. "Since you’re on vacation, you should be spending quality time with your family. We can deal with work when you’re back. A day or two won’t make a difference."
Seeing Su Chen’s slightly stern gaze, Pei Rang hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Alright, Boss!"
"Alright, I won’t keep you from your time off. Grab your things and head back to the hotel."
Pei Rang nodded emphatically at his words. He picked up the file envelope, gave Su Chen a slight bow, and turned to leave.
Watching Pei Rang’s retreating back, Su Chen turned to Jiang Hui, who was standing to the side, and asked, "Do you think Pei Rang will actually be able to relax and enjoy his time in the Imperial Capital?"
Jiang Hui, standing nearby, smiled and replied, "He’ll have fun, of course. After all, you’ve insisted on it several times, Sir. I just suspect President Pei might be staying up a little late tonight."
Su Chen nodded thoughtfully. His eyes fell on the tea on the table, and after a moment’s consideration, he said, "Go ahead and give him all the tea we brewed today."
Jiang Hui froze for a second. When he came to his senses, he quickly grabbed a beautifully packaged tea canister from a nearby cabinet and hurried off in the direction Pei Rang had gone.
He finally spotted Pei Rang at the main gate, chatting with Chen Fei.
Seeing Jiang Hui rushing out, Pei Rang and Chen Fei stopped talking and shot him quizzical looks.
After catching his breath a little, Jiang Hui walked up to Pei Rang and handed over the tea canister in his hands.
"Sir asked me to give this to you!"
Pei Rang froze for a second at his words, then snapped back to reality and quickly took the tea canister from Jiang Hui’s hands.
Chen Fei, who was standing to the side, was stunned by how fast he moved.
Pei Rang opened the canister and took a sniff. The aroma was intoxicating. He carefully put the lid back on and slipped the canister into his pocket.
Only then did he break into a wide grin and say, "Please thank the boss for me, Steward Jiang. He really shouldn’t have!"
Jiang Hui gave a slight nod, promising to do so.
Having received his prize, Pei Rang didn’t linger to chat with Chen Fei. He bid them both farewell and left in high spirits.
The main gate had just been closed, and the two of them hadn’t even reached the Hanging Flower Gate when the gate’s bell rang.
"Uh... Did President Pei forget something?" Chen Fei muttered before striding quickly toward the main gate.
Even Jiang Hui, who was about to enter the central courtyard, paused to see what was happening.
The gate opened, but the person who entered wasn’t Pei Rang.
"Brother Chen Fei!" the visitor called out enthusiastically the moment he stepped inside.
"Wu Jing? What are you doing here?" Chen Fei was surprised to see him. ’Wasn’t he supposed to be busy with his movie?’
Chen Fei had seen *Wolf Warrior 2*. As a veteran, he deeply identified with the film, especially the scene where Wu Jing stood up on the docks and shouted his former unit’s designation...
It had gotten Chen Fei’s blood pumping. He could viscerally understand the emotions Wu Jing had in that moment. Later, over a meal, he’d had a great conversation with Wu Jing.
Perhaps because Wu Jing had also trained with the military, the two of them hit it off instantly. It was a classic case of regretting not having met sooner; if the circumstances had been different, they might have become sworn brothers right then and there.
"I’m here to report the results to Mr. Su!" A flicker of pride crossed Wu Jing’s face.
Chen Fei didn’t ask any further questions. He simply nodded and stepped aside, gesturing for him to enter.
Just then, Wu Jing spotted Jiang Hui standing by the Hanging Flower Gate and hurried forward to greet him. "Steward Jiang."
Jiang Hui smiled, raising his left hand in a welcoming gesture. "Mr. Wu, this way, please!"
"Thank you!" Wu Jing said, following Jiang Hui toward the central courtyard.
At first, Jiang Hui thought Su Chen was still in the reception hall. But halfway down the corridor, he glanced through a window and saw Su Chen in the pavilion, sitting on a lounge chair with Yuanbao in his arms.
He had no choice but to lead Wu Jing on a slight detour to reach the pavilion in the central courtyard.
"Oh? What brings you here? Don’t tell me you’ve come to report the movie’s first-day results," Su Chen said. He had just been about to enjoy a little sunbathing when he caught sight of Jiang Hui and Wu Jing approaching.
The smile on Wu Jing’s face froze instantly. "Uh... Mr. Su, you already know the movie’s first-day numbers?"
Seeing Wu Jing’s crestfallen expression, Su Chen couldn’t help but laugh.
"I don’t know the specific numbers, but you’re obviously here to brag."
At these words, the smile returned to Wu Jing’s face. ’Ah, so I just misunderstood.’
"Hehe, you’re as perceptive as ever, Mr. Su. You saw right through me."
Su Chen shot Wu Jing an exasperated look. "Alright, alright, cut the flattery. ’Perceptive as ever’... you just came here to flex."
"So, spill it. What kind of first-day numbers for *Wolf Warrior 2* gave you the guts to run over here and show off?"
"Er..." Caught red-handed, Wu Jing didn’t seem embarrassed at all. He quickly reported, "The box office for the first day surpassed three hundred million. It’s projected to bring in over two hundred million per day for the next twenty days."
Even Su Chen, who spent money like it was water, showed a flicker of astonishment. ’Since when were a movie’s first-day box office numbers measured in hundreds of millions?’
