Chapter 280: Chapter 171: If I Don’t Help Her, Who Will

Su Chen glanced at the six steaming soups on the table, including pigeon and lotus seed soup and black-bone chicken soup with astragalus. Smiling, he patted Jiang Hui’s arm but said nothing in praise.

"Everyone, sit down and let’s eat together!"

Sicong and Qin Fen, who were already starving, immediately ladled themselves a bowl of soup the moment they sat down.

"Ahhh... I feel like a new man!" After downing a bowl of the slow-cooked soup, Sicong’s spirits visibly lifted.

Su Chen shook his head, at a loss for words. ’It’d be nice if the soup were really that miraculous,’ he thought. ’It’s just that he was starving, and a hot meal is bound to make you feel good.’

"Grandpa~ Your grandson is calling~ Grandpa~ Your grandson is calling..."

"PFFT—COUGH, COUGH!" The moment Su Chen’s phone started ringing, Sicong and Qin Fen, who had just been sipping their soup, were so amused that they choked.

"Old Su, that ringtone is hilarious. When did you change it?"

Su Chen put down his bowl and chopsticks. "When I arrived yesterday," he said with a smile.

After speaking, he picked up the phone beside him. A strange expression crossed Su Chen’s face when he saw the caller ID.

"Hello... Dad!" Su Chen said as he answered.

"COUGH, COUGH! COUGH, COUGH!"

"That’s absolutely priceless!"

This time, it wasn’t just Sicong and Qin Fen; even Jiang Hui started choking. None of them had imagined it would be Su Chen’s father on the line. Paired with that ringtone... what a complete reversal of the natural order!

Su Chen shot the three of them a glare, then got up and moved to a nearby sofa.

"What? Is she okay?!" Su Chen shot up from the sofa, his voice suddenly several times louder.

"Alright, I’ve got it. Just stay at the hotel. I’m heading over right now!"

Hearing the commotion, Sicong and Qin Fen immediately rushed over.

"Old Su, what’s wrong with your parents?" Sicong asked quickly.

Su Chen’s face was grim. "My mom was threatened while she was diving," he said. "They tried to force her to buy an underwater photo service, and when she refused, they dragged her down over ten meters. She still hasn’t recovered from the shock."

Qin Fen and Sicong understood immediately. They knew that many diving instructors in Sanya pulled these kinds of stunts to extort money from tourists.

After all, if something happened to you underwater, there would be no witnesses. Even if you called the police after getting back to shore, you’d have no proof. The instructors might even flip the script and claim you were the one who didn’t follow their directions.

It just becomes a "he said, she said" situation. Without evidence, there’s not much the police can do.

And it was precisely this loophole that made those instructors so brazen.

"The ferry from Sanya to West Island runs every half hour, but the terminal is pretty far from here. We’d be better off just taking Sicong’s yacht. It’ll be faster," Qin Fen, who was very familiar with the area, quickly came up with a plan.

"Alright. Sicong, you arrange it. I’m going to change, and then we’re leaving!" With a grim expression, Su Chen headed upstairs.

’The guys who hit my father last time are still breaking their backs in Africa,’ he thought. ’I wonder how tough these people are.’

When Su Chen came back downstairs, he found that Sicong and Qin Fen had both changed into surprisingly formal attire. There were also several new faces in the room: bodyguards dressed in black suits.

"What’s this?" Su Chen asked, looking at the two of them.

"We’re going with you," Sicong said. He glanced at the bodyguards standing nearby. "It’s safer to bring some backup. Don’t be naive about the kind of people you’re dealing with!"

Su Chen nodded in agreement. ’If they’re capable of endangering someone’s life underwater, what else wouldn’t they do?’

The group of ten headed straight for the yacht marina at Sanya Bay.

West Island isn’t far from Sanya Bay; a normal ferry takes just under twenty minutes. But Sicong’s luxury yacht, worth over one hundred million, made the trip to the West Island pier in just fifteen minutes.

The moment the yacht docked, countless tourists pulled out their phones to take pictures. After all, not many people had ever seen such a magnificent yacht up close.

"Need one?" Sicong asked, handing over a black face mask he had procured from somewhere.

Su Chen glanced at the growing crowd of tourists on the pier, then took the mask and put it on.

As they disembarked, the gawking tourists instinctively parted to make way for them.

Su Chen walked at the head, flanked by Sicong and Qin Fen. Behind them followed the bodyguards in their black suits.

Who wouldn’t take a couple of steps back at a sight like that?

West Island wasn’t very large—just over two square kilometers—so there were hardly any cars. People got around on electric scooters or tourist sightseeing buggies.

Although the island was small, the pier was still some distance from the main town.

Su Chen paid to charter two sightseeing buggies, heading straight for the guesthouse where his parents were staying.

......

"Su Zhuyun, what am I supposed to say to you? How could you call Xiaochen over such a small thing!" Chen Shufen complained, half-reclining on the bed.

Su Zhuyun didn’t answer. He just looked at Chen Shufen’s bloodshot eyes and the tissue paper stuffed in her ears, and began smoking his cigarette more furiously.

Chen Shufen had asked him to go diving with her earlier, but Su Zhuyun had refused for the life of him. For one, he thought it was too expensive—several hundred yuan for just ten-odd minutes. For another, he simply wasn’t interested and had no desire to go see some coral on the seabed.

So in the end, Chen Shufen had gone into the water by herself. Who could have imagined something like this would happen?

When Chen Shufen had first come back up, he had seen her bleeding eardrums and bloodshot eyes and just assumed it was from staying underwater for too long.
