Chapter 274: Chapter 169: Getting on the Right Track, Feeling Unburdened
"Hm?"
"You’re saying Professor Wu and old man Chen have arrived on Zheng Island, and there are ten people with them?" Su Chen asked, sitting up from his beach lounge chair.
Chen Fei quickly explained over the phone, "Yes, Mr. Su. I just picked their group up from the airport and got them settled in at the industrial park."
"Also, Professor Wu and the others hope you can come back as soon as possible. They said... to remember to bring all the documents!"
A smile touched Su Chen’s lips. ’Those two old gentlemen really don’t know how to rest.’
After having dinner with Deng Chao and the others last time, Su Chen had figured Professor Wu’s group wouldn’t arrive on Zheng Island for several more days, so he had taken Jiang Hui to Dalian for a vacation.
"Alright, I understand. I’ll head back to Zheng Island later. Also, run a background check on the ten people accompanying Professor Wu. It’d be best to have Brother Xiao look into them as well."
Su Chen was just being cautious. The materials the researchers would be handling would only become more and more sensitive, so the necessary precautions had to be taken.
"Understood, Mr. Su!"
After hanging up, Su Chen gazed at the azure water in the distance and couldn’t help but let out a long sigh.
He hadn’t had a chance to properly explore and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Dalian on this trip. Dalian was known as the Xiangjiang of the North, and besides its unique seascapes, it also boasted many historical buildings worth seeing.
It was a place where you could feel like you’d traveled the world without ever leaving the country. He had no idea when he’d be back.
Turning to look at Jiang Hui, who was waiting nearby for a vendor to prepare his food, he shouted, "Old Jiang, back to the hotel!"
Hearing Su Chen’s call, Jiang Hui didn’t hesitate for a second. He turned and walked toward Su Chen without even a second glance at his favorite grilled squid.
He just left the vendor with a single sentence, "Give my three orders of grilled squid to some other customers."
The distance from Dalian to Zheng Island wasn’t very far. It was just over a two-hour trip by high-speed rail.
After returning to the hotel, they packed their things and had the hotel arrange a car to take them directly to the high-speed rail station.
By the time Su Chen and Jiang Hui got back to Zheng Island, it was just past seven in the evening.
...
First thing the next morning, Su Chen arrived at the industrial park on the outskirts of the city.
As soon as the car stopped, Su Chen saw Professor Wu and the others through the window, standing at the main entrance of the office building and waiting with craned necks.
The moment he got out of the car, Professor Wu and old man Chen hurried over to greet him.
"Professor Wu, Professor Chen!" Su Chen greeted them as he stepped out of the car.
"Aiyo, you’re finally here! We’ve been waiting so long the flowers have nearly wilted!" old man Chen said, as boisterous as ever. Though he was speaking, his eyes were scanning the car Su Chen had just gotten out of.
When he spotted a black briefcase on the seat, he excitedly nudged Professor Wu, who was talking with Su Chen, and gestured with his eyes toward the inside of the car.
Although Professor Wu was also excited, he was in the middle of a conversation with Su Chen and couldn’t be as obvious as old man Chen. He merely let his gaze drift toward the car from time to time as he spoke.
Su Chen found their expressions amusing. He turned and retrieved the briefcase from the car.
"Hehe... Mr. Su, is this the material you were talking about?" old man Chen said, already reaching for it.
He didn’t even know how he had gotten through the past few days. Every day, his only thought was to hurry up and finish his business at the university so he could come over to Su Chen’s.
Now, the thing he had been dreaming of was right in front of him. How could he not be excited?
"Hey, Professor Chen, haste makes waste. You can’t be planning to stand here and read it, can you? Let’s go inside first," Su Chen said, deftly swinging the briefcase behind him to evade old man Chen’s outstretched hand.
Seeing this, old man Chen grew a little anxious, but he knew Su Chen had a point.
Professor Wu, in contrast, appeared rather calm. He was already certain in his heart that Su Chen truly possessed the manufacturing technology for nanometer-scale chips, so there was no need to rush.
"Let’s go. To the office first," Su Chen said, leading the way inside with the bag in hand. Chen Fei, Professor Wu, and the others hurried to keep up.
When they reached the general manager’s office on the top floor, Su Chen didn’t let everyone in, stationing Chen Fei and Xiao Peng at the door.
As for Jiang Hui, after preparing tea for Su Chen, Professor Wu, and old man Chen, he discreetly excused himself from the office.
"Professor Wu, I heard from Chen Fei that you brought ten people with you this time?" Su Chen asked after blowing on his teacup and taking a sip.
Professor Wu was taken aback for a moment, but he quickly understood the implication behind Su Chen’s words and hurried to explain, "Among those ten, eight are researchers who have worked under me and old man Chen for many years..."
"The other two are senior mechanical engineers that the two of us went to great lengths to recruit."
"They’ve all followed us on numerous large-scale projects. Their backgrounds are all very reliable."
Professor Wu and Professor Chen were quite conscious of confidentiality; otherwise, they wouldn’t have been able to participate in all sorts of major research initiatives.
They knew what the technology in Su Chen’s hands meant, which was why they had brought their most trusted students, hoping to get the research project started as quickly as possible.
"Mr. Su, you can rest assured. They’re all trustworthy!" old man Chen chimed in from the side.
Seeing the confident looks on both professors’ faces, Su Chen silently nodded to himself. However, the necessary procedures still had to be followed.
"In the initial phase, you all might have to stay within the industrial park. Have you settled all your family affairs?"
"Everything’s been arranged. We’ve often taken this group of researchers on projects where we didn’t go home for months at a time. They’re used to it!" Professor Wu said, knowing Su Chen was asking about the researchers.
