From Wage Slave to Tycoon
Chapter 270 - 167: Tell Him to Take a More Handsome Picture of Me Next Time
After hearing Reba's story, Da Mimi on the other end of the call fell silent.
A long moment passed before her voice came through. "Are you sure this Mr. Su is someone important?"
"Hmm... I don't think he's just some ordinary person," Reba said, recalling what she'd overheard the previous night. "From their conversation, this Mr. Su is very familiar with 'Si Cong' and those other rich heirs. It seems they even opened a restaurant chain called Goat Village together."
Su Chen and the others had only mentioned it offhandedly during their chat last night, but unexpectedly, Reba had taken note.
Da Mimi and Deng Chao were already good friends, so she was well aware that he'd suddenly come into a lot of money last year. After some subtle probing, she'd learned that he had found a powerful backer and opened a few restaurants with them. The name of the chain was, in fact, Goat Village.
'Could it be that the powerful backer he mentioned is this Mr. Su?' For a moment, Da Mimi fell silent again.
But Da Mimi was a veteran who had navigated the entertainment industry for over a decade; she quickly came up with a plan.
"Just pretend you don't know anything about this and carry on as usual!" With that, Da Mimi hung up.
Reba stared at her phone, utterly confused. 'Why was she in such a panic at first, but now she's telling me to act like I don't know anything?'
Shaking her head, she set her phone aside and lay back down.
Meanwhile, Weibo and Douyin were in an uproar. After all, Reba was the dream girl for countless people, and the topic quickly shot into the top ten trending hashtags.
For a while, online speculation ran rampant.
As for the other person involved... he was being woken up by a knock on his door.
Seeing a frantic-looking Deng Chao outside, Su Chen rubbed his still-sleepy eyes and asked, "What's with all the rush so early in the morning? Did something happen?"
"Mr. Su, look at this!" Deng Chao hurriedly handed over his phone.
Su Chen took the phone, confused. When he saw the article on the screen, the corner of his mouth twitched involuntarily.
'I was always the one reading celebrity gossip online,' he thought. 'Never expected to be the subject of it myself one day.'
"Tsk, tsk. These paparazzi are terrible. They didn't capture my good looks at all. It's only half my face... Thumbs down!" Su Chen actually started critiquing the photo.
Hearing this, Deng Chao was completely stunned...
'Dude, seriously?' he thought. 'I came here to figure out how to solve this, and you're admiring your own picture?'
Of course, Su Chen saw the anxious look on Deng Chao's face. He waved him inside, since standing in the doorway wasn't going to solve anything.
Just as they sat down, there was another knock at Su Chen's door. He opened it and, unsurprisingly, found Chen He and Lu Zi looking at him with equally worried expressions.
"Mr. Su, you..." Chen He began, but Su Chen cut him off with a raised hand.
"Alright, just come in first."
As soon as the two of them entered, they saw Deng Chao sitting on the sofa, waving a greeting.
"What are you two doing here?"
"Look who's talking. You're here too, aren't you? And you came alone without calling the rest of us!" Chen He said, rolling his eyes at him.
Deng Chao looked helpless and quickly explained, "I was still fast asleep when Da Mimi called me. I wouldn't have known anything otherwise..."
Hearing this, both Chen He and Lu Zi nodded in understanding. They knew Deng Chao and Da Mimi were very close.
"Hmm, so Da Mimi called you," Su Chen said, his curiosity piqued. "Did she say how she wants to handle this?"
This sort of thing didn't really affect Su Chen. Unless you were close to him, you wouldn't be able to recognize him from the photo, so he wasn't worried.
As for being doxxed by some random netizen, Su Chen was even less concerned. He figured no one had that kind of ability—after all, he was an information security expert himself and had long ago scrubbed and hidden all his personal data.
Deng Chao looked a little embarrassed. "Da Mimi wants to let it cool down for a bit. She said to wait a couple of days and then post the photos from our group dinner to clear things up."
Taking photos during a meal was an unavoidable ritual for everyone, and that included celebrities like them.
"She called me mainly to ask for your opinion, Mr. Su," Deng Chao added, his voice lacking some conviction.
Hearing that, Su Chen immediately understood. Da Mimi wanted to ride the wave of this hot topic to generate some buzz, but she was afraid he would get angry, so she sent Deng Chao to test the waters and ask for his opinion.
Su Chen leaned back on the sofa and thought for a moment before speaking. "Out of respect for you, Deng Chao, I'll give her five days to resolve this."
Deng Chao, Chen He, and Lu Zi all stared at Su Chen in surprise. They had all thought he would refuse, but he had actually agreed—and even emphasized it was for Deng Chao's sake.
Su Chen saw their expressions change and teased, "What's with those looks? Were you hoping I'd say no?"
Deng Chao quickly waved his hands, laughing. "No, no, no! Of course not! Mr. Su, on behalf of Da Mimi and Reba, thank you."
"Cut the pleasantries. Would I have agreed if you, Deng Chao, hadn't asked? Just remember, you owe me a meal for this!"
"Alright, you guys go do what you need to do. I'm going back to bed."
Hearing Su Chen's clear dismissal, the three of them gave a respectful nod and took their leave.
Meanwhile, Reba, who was still fast asleep, would never have guessed, even in her wildest dreams, that this small publicity stunt would turn her into the industry's new favorite.
