From Trash to Treasure: The Sinclair Family's Beloved Genius
Chapter 490 - 487: What Goes Around Comes Around
"Holy shit, Professor Trenton is actually Chloe’s senior! I think they look perfect together."
"No way. Chloe has a boyfriend. He’s rich and good-looking, just a little on the older side."
...
Chloe Sinclair heard every word of the discussion around her. There was no malice in their comments, so she paid them no mind.
She only had one class today, so she planned to leave with Nathan Trenton afterward.
"Chloe, your adoptive parents..."
Nathan Trenton and Chloe Sinclair walked side by side down the hallway, with students and teachers bustling all around them.
Nathan Trenton trailed off.
He remembered what Chloe Sinclair had told him last time.
Just thinking about it made his heart ache so much he could barely breathe.
He came from a wealthy family and had lived a charmed life. Even when he’d stubbornly decided to research nuclear fusion, his family had quietly supported him from the sidelines, despite their verbal objections.
It was the first time he realized that not all parents love their children.
Whether it was Chloe Sinclair or Nina Sinclair, that couple had probably never truly loved either of them.
Just like last time, the comforting words he wanted to offer were caught in his throat, refusing to come out.
They walked out of the academic building as they talked.
There weren’t many people outside, just a few students hurrying to class in small groups. Hardly anyone noticed the two of them.
"I’m really fine. Those things are all in the past."
Chloe Sinclair smiled. In truth, she felt incredibly fortunate.
Fortunate that she hadn’t completely lost herself because of their upbringing.
At twelve, she was in the same class as Ryan Sinclair. His grades were terrible, so she never dared to score higher than him.
As a result, she was ranked last year after year.
Ryan Sinclair was second to last.
During the high school entrance exams, she knew that getting into a top high school was her only way out.
That year, at fifteen, she studied like a madwoman and scored first in the entire city.
But right after the exams, Silas Sinclair and Liana Marsh, wanting to force her to drop out, sent her to a construction site in the next province to haul bricks for three hundred a day.
Only she knew that she hauled more bricks than anyone else, earning an extra hundred or so each day.
’She figured that if Liana Marsh really wouldn’t let her continue her education, she could use the money for her living expenses.’
Later, when reporters and school officials found her, she told them point-blank that her parents refused to let her continue her studies because she had to support her younger brother.
They took her home, and Liana Marsh panicked. She tore up Chloe’s acceptance letter, assuming that would prevent her from going to school. What she didn’t realize was that in the modern digital age, destroying a piece of paper couldn’t stop her enrollment.
After finally escaping that vampiric family, she hardly ever went back.
When her biological father found her, she left immediately without even packing a bag.
Her biological father and older brothers treated her so well that she was almost overwhelmed by their kindness.
In her seventeen years of life, she had never felt such warmth.
Back then, Nina Sinclair had been raised like a pampered, high-and-mighty princess. Chloe was both envious of and intimidated by her.
It was precisely because of this that she grew increasingly insecure under Nina’s constant suppression.
It wasn’t until she died in her previous life that she saw everything clearly.
"Senior, a phoenix is reborn from the ashes. So am I."
Nathan Trenton stared, momentarily stunned.
A cool breeze rustled the ends of her hair. Her eyes held a smile as she gazed at him, her stare unwavering.
’In that instant, Nathan Trenton felt he understood something, but he couldn’t quite put his finger on what it was.’
He didn’t bring up the matter again, only saying softly, "I don’t have any more classes today either. Let me take you home..."
As he finished speaking, he caught sight of a familiar Bentley parked nearby. He gave a resigned smile. "On second thought, never mind. Mr. Shaw is here."
